Minister Hunt said the one and only booster for Omicron will be initially available 4 months after the second dose...then 3 months after by February when supplies are more plentiful

John Smith's claim that a booster is required every 3 months is vaccine misinformation

https://www.news.com.au/national/booster-interval-to-be-reduced-to-three-months-by-end-of-january/video/2c2e8343e81b83f886d553d40a1460b9

That article does not say that nor does the Minister...but I think you know that.

Door-to-door Covid jabs as Boris considers New Year restrictions TOMORROW but vows to keep schools open: SAGE warns new Omicron wave hospitalisations could be higher than last winter
  • Ministers are planning to send teams armed with Covid vaccines to the homes of unvaccinated Britons
  • Discussions between the Department of Health, NHS England and No 10 have looked at a nationwide drive

Door-to-door teams armed with Covid jabs will be sent to the homes of unvaccinated Britons in plans being considered by Ministers to reach the estimated five million people yet to be inoculated.

Discussions between the Department of Health, NHS England and No 10 over the past week have looked at a nationwide drive to send vaccine teams to areas with low uptake rates as a crucial way to avoid lockdown and other restrictions.

@sudneyfc RE you’re comment before about people who default to left v right blanket statements.

I read a really interesting article years about it by psychologists and it goes back to child-like thinking of cowboys and indians and cops and robbers.
It’s a problem with a lot of adults in the US who think that there is only good guys and bad guys, much like a under developed brain thinks in the most basic of black and white concepts.

It’s why it’s so easy for them to sell unjust war after war to their public. They only see things in a basic interpretation. Just make the others the bad guys and boom!

In relation to this, big pharma can be bad guys but could still have something of great benefit to us all. So it just makes them the murky guys. Which is basically where any adult can understand here everything in life generally lays.

Absolutely no way can I agree with any of this.

If you actually had respect for them you'd just chuck the mask on so they don't have to come within proximity to you which may just be what is required for the virus to spread from them to you or vice versa.

Myer is not the place for you to take a political stance.

Surgeons need to stop wearing them too!

You can really see a trend here:

Masks = useless, make you sick and morally/ethically evil

Lockdowns = Useless, make you sick and morally/ethically evil

Vaccines = Useless, make you sick and morally/ethically evil

I'm assuming that within 2 months, conservative media/pundits will be proclaiming the the new anti-viral drugs are, let me guess:  Useless, make you sick and morally/ethically evil?

I'll eat my hat if that isn't exactly what Alan Jones or Craig Kelly are going on about by March.

Mine's not political but practical.  The death rate is now below the normal flu, ergo I think it's time to move on.

Having said that I will still wear a mask when I got into a store and wherever they're mandatory. I am definitely not a zealot about this and may have been half pissed when I wrote that rant..

My only concern about not wearing masks is that ICU cases may become unmanageable due to more people getting sick which is a fair and valid point..

I'd hope that isn't an unpopular opinion...

My other hope is that it helps people to realise how much we rely on community and working together to survive. The prosperity of recent decades (I'd argue back to boomer times) has helped to produce some very selfish people who believe "they've done it all themselves".

Almost 2 years later... I was never very optimistic about this coming to fruition despite the overwhelming evidence that things have gone better in this pandemic when the community worked together.
As others have said, there are some that can't see that there are no black and white answers just different shades of grey, that things you do as an individual have an impact on the greater community you live in (and depend on) and that there are no shortage of media and political grifters that are ready to exploit this.

Our hospitalisation rate is at 520 now in NSW. Two days ago, we were at 388. I think we might feel some strain now (especially with 2000 medical staff in iso due to COVID). Last time, we peaked at 1200 (I thought it was 800-900 before).

Masks rules in NSW are pretty sensible at the moment - basically in indoor settings/public transport areas (https://www.nsw.gov.au/covid-19/stay-safe/rules/people-in-nsw#toc-masks-covid-19-safe-check-in-and-vaccination-evidence). I don't see that as being so onerous or unreasonable.

In the UK, the rules are pretty much the same (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/face-coverings-when-to-wear-one-and-how-to-make-your-own/face-coverings-when-to-wear-one-and-how-to-make-your-own).

Who would’ve thought?

So Marjorie Taylor green the republican trumper that rails against vaccines and big pharma…..wait for it…has stocks in Pfizer, AZ and Johnson and Johnson.

And the crazy Kennedy who has jumped on the anti vaccine wagon demands people be vaccinated at his own get togethers. But hey, he’s tripled donations in 12 months by appealing to this idiots so why would he not?

The hypocrisy to take money of all these idiots is breathtaking. They know everything they are pushing is complete bullshit.

So you would support a year of working with a face mask because it isnt onerous or unreasonable? What about school? There is significant data that working 8 hours with a mask forces people to work from home but working from home for another year isnt a bad thing?

And what has face masks for some of the time accomplished? 11k cases in NSW today and nearly 4k in Victoria

See it wasnt face masks on buses that kept the virus at bay. It was hotel quarantine and compliance on social distancing. Dont forget also, 70%-80% of cases were household to household

Australia fucked up. They were operating under the assumption that vaccinated people were 20 times less likely to spread the virus, and a mere 3 weeks into opening up they have slammed on the brakes and crying that hospital systems cant cope with the projected Excel data

So now what? We go back to a hybrid approach and dont call it a lock down. And wait patiently for the virus to crawl through our population of 25 million

We have a non compliant 90%-95% vaccinated population that were promised if they got 2 jabs they can have their life back. I even saw a youtube ad on it a minute ago. The hysteria and tokenistic restrictions have to stop. Opening up was our plan and there is nothing that can be done to go back

And the irony of your post isnt lost on me. A thread full of people screaming about how scientifically backed and tested vaccinations are the only way forward, and then a literal link to a site on how average Joe can "make" their own face mask. They are polar opposite approaches and anybody who thinks constant antagonising of the population is the way forward is kidding themselves

Oh boy, this again. Stop moving the goal posts. The current conditions are masks in highly populated areas (e.g. public transport and shopping). You're not going to be wearing a mask when outdoors or eating at a restaurant (unless you're a hospitality worker). Kids have also been wearing masks all last term, so there is also that...

I agree that we are messing it up given the hospitalisation numbers in NSW are over 600 already. It's probably too late to reverse course now. Not sure what can be done except hop that the Government supports the hospital system and hope that you don't need to go to hospital yourself.

the Lieberals made a big mistake by allowing masks off for 2 weeks and now we have an uncontrollable outbreak

It probably wasn't just masks but a combination of relaxing conditions

Covid-19: Government ignores scientists’ advice to tighten restrictions to combat omicron

But experts accused the government of dithering and ignoring the latest modelling1 provided to its Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage), which show that without additional restrictions now, hospital admissions across England could peak at between 3000 and 10 000 a day, while deaths could reach between 600 and 6000 a day.
