More about Paramount/Ten bidding for the AFL rights: https://www.theage.com.au/sport/afl/streaming-companies-want-to-broadcast-afl-as-players-seek-huge-pay-rises-20220419-p5aeip.htmlThe Age can reveal that global streaming platforms Amazon and Paramount have both expressed interest in being part of the AFL’s broadcasting deal beyond 2024. Both companies have responded to a letter sent out by the AFL to gauge interest from prospective buyers. Looks like the AFL is in a tight spot with players demanding big increases in pay, so they are chasing extra money from anywhere. Even the women are going to double their pay, to around $100,000 per season. I'm guessing the strategy will be something like: offer a new player like Paramount a seat at the table on the proviso that they fund the AFLW for the next 6 years.

+xInteresting that AFL is down 20% on channel 7 Yes, big chance they will be taking a dip in TV revenues just when they need to pay out more in salaries. They could be in a world of pain soon.

Us invested real football followers wish the best for the Tilda's for the WC especially on our shores, thats a given.

Ten currently guarantees that the Sat night A-League game is shown on the main channel, this could mean that the AFL gets relegated to the secondary channel.

+xThe Foxtel/SBS arrangement was bloody good, near perfect. It was the then FFA CEO who destroyed the SBS part of it - we've never seen ratings like we saw during the SBS years, not even close. In fact the way the then FFA CEO managed that relationship, inexplicably destroying it midway through what had been some sensational ratings, you have to wonder whether it was an act of intentional sabotage. lol. SBS disrespected the AL just as much as Foxtel did in its final years. Shit production. Shit commentary. Never on the primary channel. I can't see PP getting all 9 games. As long as they don;t get Saturday night, I think they can actually help the AL.

As long as they don;t get Saturday night, I think they can actually help the AL. I agree But the reason is always both parties top brass are not agreeing amongst each other anymore more so based one side having the upper hand and the other thinks F you in that case as well. Partnerships got to work both ways. The FOX/AL deal was a massive dagger into SBS sadly, thats business. Lets also recall the emergence of streaming etc really effected SBS amongst other political circumstances - they lost the WC rights once Optus won it in 2014, and only had 25 games to air, another dagger. Pre streaming/FOX etc SBS was the beacon for our game period, without ethnic TV starting in '79 we would have in the dark ages to the other codes who always had major FTA viewing, Warren/Murray the best we've ever had in commentry (barring to incl nowadays Simon Hill) and the passion they expressed...and help in growing media attention to the game. Till this game gets more on the front foot and GROWS properly with an NSD and more and gain far more substance and support all these new deals are wins wins more for the other codes period yet something is better than nothing.

+xI’m done getting my hopes up for football in this country what ever happens happens MCG, you really do seem like the nicest dude on here mate, don't give up.... Just a friendly bit of "old man's" advice if you truly love the game. Get your ass down to your local club, NPL or State level this weekend if they are playing at home, next weekend if they are not. Yes your not going to get a nice comfy seat, or corporate facilities. There will be a handful of people in the terraces, not the couple of thousand at AAMI you are used too. The football is industrial at best, but well meaning. You can pick up maybe a scarf or even a polo top at one of the "ritzier" clubs and at the very least the food is way way better than the plastic garbage those big soulless stadiums serve up. Your NOT going to get the euro football experience you are looking for, no EPL slick matchday experience, no choreographed tifo and chanting. You may be surrounded by people speaking a foreign language. Depending on the club you pick you could be stuck in the lower leagues FOREVER but on the plus side you can ride it out, the lows and the few and far between highs. Going up to NPL2 from NPL 3 is magical experience and if this mythological NSD ever happens then maybe .... all the way to the fairytale top for your club.... maybe ....one day..... < $15 and a simple "Im new to this club, how are they going this year and which players should I be looking out for?" to the guy/girl at the gate is all it takes to maybe start getting your hopes up again brother?

I've said it before they are part of the cancer supporting that game that does all it can to stifle our game from grass roots up. Anyone think being linked with them on the same broacast medium helps are delusional. ALeague worked well whilst at FOX for it had EPL pulling people in, if you think people will watch APLM because afl will be at P+ as a drawcard you've lost the plot.

It's also convenient that, should Paramount/10 get the AFL deal, it would start between the penultimate and the final season of the A-League deal. No doubt those seasons would be affected by the AFL dominating the broadcast especially if the A-League doesn't improve as a product.
