+x+x+x+x+xDufty going to England next year… is there any point in persisting with him in the 17???… Still think we lack too much in the halves to dump him, and I really want to avoid the spoon, so I wouldn't banish him to reserves just yet. I would certainly give Toia, JAC and even Casey a go. Maybe we can select the new guys on wing and swap them during the game? Toia is the obvious choice as our future fullback. Kiraz is the obvious winger. Allamoti the obvious centre. They all should be cheap and let us put money into an experienced halfback until Hayward is ready.
If the teams fitness is worked on all season a diff season we can dramatically improve. That’s why a coach and fitness trainer is essential asap.
Agreed. But the HB needs to be a game manager. Needs to understand fatigue (both in our team and in the opposition) as well as understand weakness in the opposition to exploit it. None of the guys we have played at HB so far fit the bill. It's why myself and HD would like to see someone like a Sezar or Pearce or someone of that ilk. Doesn't matter if they've lost a step due to age. Just need composure, direction and management. The kids you mentioned can then do their thing. Teams with experienced halfbacks are doing well this season. Sometimes that experienced half was previously considered a dud. Many of the younger halves are struggling. You're right, but where do we find one. A half season journeyman is not what we need.

None of the guys tried so far this season look likley.

Just had a look at the NSW player stats on nswrl.com. two of our players had a tackle efficiency > 100%. These guys should be in SOO.

+xHow good is Tom Starling? Maybe I should be in charge of Bulldogs recruitment. From coaches, to players.... I have a key eye to spotting talent. So good Adam Elliot will be in the 9 jersey next week…

So good Adam Elliot will be in the 9 jersey next week… Ricky seems to have his hooker rotation on song. He starts with the conservative Woolford or Elliott and only after about 25mins he injects Starling to run amok - which he does. Our coaches seem to stupidly play JMK for min 65mins or sometimes 72mins and give our gun hooker 8 or 15mins tops.

Reserve grade match report. (2nd hand)
Good general play kicking from Wakeham and 7/7 goal kicking.
Casey played well at fullback.
Credence might be injured.
Topine also featured in a few trys, try assit, try and had good stats.
Curtis Morrin sounds more skilkful than I expected.
We flogged the opposition, but good to see players performing well.
I am getiing the impression Wakeham and BBO play well together in the halves and this is helping BBO to progress.

I am interested in halfbacks, fullbacks and 2nd rowers who play well in reserve grade, because those are positions where we should consider making changes.

With Canberra fading in too many games especially at back end, Ricky decided to mix it up abit and conserve Starling for when they start to fade in 2nd halves. Its worked a treat. It has nothing to do with him being 1st choice, 2nd or 3rd. It's how the team falls off the rails with fatigue and who at hooker can change this. I wish our coaches could see something sinilar in our team and do the same. Instead, they flog JMK for 70mins every week and by the time either BBO, wakeham and now ZDC come on, they are chasing points with a side that is too fatigued to attack. Poor time managenent and bench use. Fitler was correct whwn he spoke about fatigue being the most important thing in midern rugby league on the Sunday footy show

Why are you even talking about a bench player (in his current team) who’d have no role barring injuries in our 17?
Mahoney plays 80 mins, the 80th as hard as the 1st. Nobody will be looking to give him a rest when the team goes backwards in both offence and defence without him.

Given that Mahoney will fix the problem next season, the maximum we can do this season is give ZDC more minutes, perhaps start him or give Cook a run. The best place for BBO seems to be improving his game in reserve grade. But most importantly there is no need to consider signing anyone for hooker after June 30th. I would argue halfback and fullback are bigger problems, for the rest of this season and perhaps for 2023. We need to look at other options, including signing someone after June 30th or for 2023. I would be very happy if Dufty has played his last game of NRL for us. Also reasonably happy if Flanno has played his last game. I will be extremely happy if we have a half/fullback option for 23 that potentially seems as good a Mahoney and Burton.

If we need a 14 for 2023 ZDC and JMK are 2 options, as is Averillo or Casey becuase our halfback could fill in at dummy-half if Mahoney got injured. ZDC or JMK could play a bit of lock.
Or we could play Topine on the bench who can play mostly backrow, but fill in if an emergency occurs.
A genuine quality 80 minute hooker provides more options for 14 and makes 14 less important.

I hate the idea off half back covering an injured hooker… Even for 10 mins it weakens 2 positions… need that cotter, b smith, McInnes type player… middle forward…not easy to find… 2 props… and back that can maybe fill in at 9 if needed, or an edge forward that can play reasonable defensive footy at centre…

It's him I want to see on the bench possibly covering back row or hooker - if needed

I don't know much about Curtis Morrin he might be another contender. Moving the half means Averillo, Casey or the fullback fill in at half. That type of 14 also covers an injury to any backline position. Mostly you get more milage from a 14 who can also play backrow.

Kurtis Morrin is Brad's nephew. Ball playing lock, runs hard, tackles hard, leads the linespeed. Small but makes an impact. Defense is his best attribute, but seems to have some skill. Not sure how much dummy half he has played or how often he kicks the ball. If we are really lucky, a Victor Radley type, if not a handy competitive player who will do his job and some of everyone else's job.

I do seem to remember Brad Morrin started as a centre and prior to a bad injury had some pace. Or is that just the stuff Dman is supplying destroying my brain cells?

Have always been a fan of the Apprentice...the UK version and don't believe I have ever missed a series but if the first two nights of the Celebrity Apprentice Australia are anything to go on alternate viewing may be on the cards...The first episode was totally and absolutely s---house...second not much better.Lord Sugar has certainly visited an island in the sun before he arrived, Benji Marshall has been pretty good.

With reference to Brad Morrin, from memory he was a player with a lot of potential, but a habitual brain snap player who had trouble keeping his enthusiasm in check. A bit like Hetherington I guess.
