Gutted my favourites over many years have been omitted. Brought on themselves. Arnold could've cleaned up more by not picking Leckie and Maclaren.
It's just frustrating the lack of decent talent and club performance that gets converted to national team success. Namely Dougall, Elder, Ikon, Taggart with a golden boot.

A small note No Western Australians selected with Taggart and Sainsbury not going. WA press making note of it and I appreciate how they always feature their locals.

+xif Rowles and Souttar pull up sore after first game we really going to start Deng and Wright? I realised the other day that Wright has stood up from obscurity against both Honduras and Peru. I'll back him all the way despite the immense challenge. He's ahead of Degenek in Arnold's preferences I think.

+x+x+xDavidson is very, very stiff imo. Sainsbury big surprise - not cause he has been great but cause he's chosen two injured players over him. Rowles def has more to offer now, but the obvious injury cloud is there Davidson was given a game against Jordan earlier in the year and he was terrible, absolutely woeful. When he has played for the Socceroos he has consistently shown he is not good enough. They've all been woeful. Davidson was probably top 3 player in the league last year and rightly earned a move back to Europe. He was given a chance and he blew it. It is completely his fault he is not in the squad. Same with Dougall who was given a chance and was also woeful.

I guess there still is a chance that either Rowles or Souttar have to pull out of the squad due to their injuries and Sainsbury could replace them.

+x"Alternative 26 man squad" of those not in the squad today: Langerak Strain Sainsbury Circati Davidson Dougall Rogic Genreau Tilio Taggart Volpato Subs: Gauci, Birighitti, Risdon, Delbridge, McGowan, Gersbach, Elder, Francois, Brimmer, Luongo, Metcalfe, Arzani, Kalik, Ikonomidis, D'Agostino
A lot of good players there. Whether some now retire from international football remains to be seen. Asian Cup not far away so players will be kicking on.

Yes, not convinced about Leckie in forward positions against quality opposition. Same for Duke. How King was selected ahead of Elder is one for Arnie to explain.

I'm glad he got a debut. I'm totally ready to support Arnold and the team and this is the situation. Yet part of me can't help but wonder how another coach would select and play with all the player's at the country's disposal. This is a fan thought. Until then it's time to get behind our squad and give it our all.

Where as the others can play poorly consistently.

+xActually understand Arnie's position if it's true, Arnie's style of play has a preference for sweeper keepers, that being said I'd still take Langer's if I was in his position, I'd just take another sweeper keepers as the third string. Are we really going to play a high line against Mbappe? Is Arnie insane or?

There is depth there. I still reckon in some parallel universe James Holland and Nikita Rukavytsya would have been mainstays of the last five years. It really comes down to favouritism, though we're obviously not privy to what goes down at training camps etc.

It really comes down to favouritism, though we're obviously not privy to what goes down at training camps etc. Every country probably has it but there's a massive favouritsm issue. But hey, maybe some of the players just don't like each other either and the coach has to pick the most cohesive bunch. I personally don't think we can afford to omit our better players. At the same time Arnold clearly doesn't want to and maybe can't work with the likes of Dougall and Elder and your above mentioned names have fulfilled the criteria to get into a squad.

I'm surprised and annoyed that Rogic, Langerak and Sainsbury miss out. I guess I can understand why with the first two, but I think it genuinely makes us weaker. Langerak is easily our best keeper now that Ryan has declined so precipitously and Vukovic is, what, 40? It's just a dumb decision. Rogic is probably rusty af, but I'd still take him. He's one of a very few in this squad capable of that little bit of magic and creativity. I don't really know how Sainsbury's going these days, but I just assumed he'd go. He's normally been pretty solid for Australia. Wasn't he meant to be one of Arnold's favourites? What happened to Arnie's nepotism? I also find not taking Taggart surprising.
Not impressed with the squad at all.

+x+xFull squad GK: Ryan, Redmayne, Vuckovic RB: Atkinson, Karacic LB: Behich, King CB: Souttar, Rowles, Degenek, Deng, Wright CM/DM: Keanu Baccus, Devlin, Irvine, Mooy, Hrustic, McGree LW: Goodwin, Mabil RW: Leckie, Boyle, Garang Kuol ST: Duke, MacLaren, Cummings on paper, the worst socceroos squad in the last 5 WC's. not bad if the supposedly "worst socceroos squad" in the last 5 campaigns still qualifies for the WC , eh ?

Arnold always says players must be playing consistently to play for Roos. Joel King has played just 292 minutes this season.

We're human, aren't we? I personally love having Sainsbury and Rogic around but seeing them perform poorly hurts. I won't have that now. I know my arguments about picking them is clutching at straws. We all have our preferences. Then there's Behich who I've never been particularly fond of. Like with Leckie, I just want them out. Ample opportunity for little return.

Some interesting omissions. Langerak, Sainbury, Rogic & Taggart I could imagine would be absolutely shocked and or gutted.
You’d think Arnie would have them around at least for experience sake.
How Maclaren continues to get caps is beyond me. The bloke is & has been a ghost for the national team for far too long now.

Surprised by the lack of Sainsbury, but the cynic in me thinks he's made his own bed. If he was still playing regularly in Belgium, you'd assume he'd be picked. Too many strange moves over the years.
TBH I always look forward to the period after a World Cup cycle. Genreau, Metcalfe, even Arzani etc. should have their moment to shine leading into the Asian Cup.

I don't recall where Arnold's contract is at, but a poor WC performance could either see him gone, or even a revisit to those who missed out this time.

There are some odd emmisions from this squad, but he is not one of those. I wouldn't take him either. I also wouldn't be taking Elder or Dougall. What have they ever shown to deserve a spot?

+xArnold always says players must be playing consistently to play for Roos. This is the thing that bugs me the most, because it's obviously a rule only when it suits the coach. There are plenty of Twitter threads going into detail on minutes played so far this season - and it doesn't really align with certain selections.
