If 60% aren't showing up because of the Sydney GF decision, then they are not true football people.

Victorian sports fans aren't known as "theatre goers" for nothing.

See what I mean!

The old FFA kicked the NSD discussions off before the new mob rolled in. Same for expansion.

The old FFA set the precedence and left no stone unturned to qualify for the 2006 WC after many decades in no mans land. The move from Oceania to Asia, orchestrated by the old FFA was and still is instrumental in raising our game to meet the toughness required to participate. Arnold was the architect of the 2 wins you mentioned, which still pales in comparison vs the numerous consecutive WC qualifications. Nothing to do with the new FA.

lol all that proves you have no idea what you are talking about. What the fuck does owning shares have to do with anything? You have your "ear on the ground"? Victory has over 20k members, how many have you spoken to personally? 0.1%? Making broad strokes based on a few drunken pub chats with  OSM members doesnt give you any authority mate.

I have to speak with 20,000 members to prove my point? LOL. The problem here isn’t me. The problem is that you (and people like you) making assumptions, judgements and casting aspersions from a position of ignorance.

Good luck to you sir and keep believing what you believe, and I will keep saying what I know.

And no, I am not OSM and have no links to them. But I do think forcing them to disband is a pointless exercise that achieves nothing.

Again how do you explain the 18k who turned up, IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING the APL decision?

Pretty simple answer. People came to protest. At the time, people believed we would defeat the APL re the GF decision. But that changed after the other supporters groups met with the APL and gave up on the fight.

I will explain to you human nature;

When APL announced their decision many fans were very angry and vowed never to attend or watch an A league game again. Then over time they got less angry, and as we have seen with most clubs, they have recovered their historical averages prior to the APL decision. The exception is MV, who were hit by a triple whammy; APL crowds, clusterfuck pitch invasion, crowd restrictions and poor results. However, time, being the great healer that it is, everyone, including you, will come to accept the APL decision because your love for MV is greater than your hatred for the APL. With MV its taking a little bit longer, but good results and an epic derby will certainly speed up the process.

I vowed to boycott and never return until the decision was reversed. But as I said above - that all changed when the other supporter groups gave up. Then proceeded to blame us for giving up, which is a convenient excuse. They can still protest now if they wanted to but are choosing not to.

It will be interesting to see if they hold their nerve and decide to boycott the finals and the GF. Right now, I am sceptical. If WSW or Sydney play in an away GF in Sydney, I am certain they will flock to it. I'm sure the APL are banking on this scenario.

I concede you have a point that people’s anger will subside over time. The other supporter groups have already proven this. And the APL is relying on this. But at what cost? Thankfully, Victory fans have long memories and won’t forget this as easily as others.

The 60%, 40% blah blah is just asinine waffle.
Yes, yes, they’re arbitrary figures.  But my whole point is that the GF decision is keeping people away more than any other issue.

I think everyone will be looking at the derby crowd numbers with interest. We had 23,489 at the first home derby. I would suggest we’ll do well to get half of that amount next week.

Sorry but NOPE!!!
Your supporters basically fucked it for every other group and de-legitimised it all.

Took the focus off the decision and put it onto yourselves 100%.

I think the protest would have petered out over time anyway. The APL would have war gamed that exact scenario. 'Yes there'll be a shitshow for a week or two but then they'll get over it.'

If only we were more like the French. They really know how to strike and protest.

The grass isn't always greener, But how many here would admit they got it wrong on the need to leave Murdoch and the ffa

Fuck Murdoch. Its amazing how short some peoples memories are.

And Gallop was a flog who knew nothing about football. But do you know what Gallop didn’t do? He didn’t sell the GF to the NSW government. Even he was not that stupid.

For what it's worth the Red Army (no affiliation) carried it on a while longer after that and had the whole stadium clap them in support but by then nobody else was doing it anymore anyway (and the Red Army numbers are hardly going to worry the suits).

I tend to agree, and I'm a MV supporter.
However, I do reckon we will see some form of protest play out if this seasons GF is two interstate teams. Especially if it's MC, MV or AU.

Yep, you just proved my point.

What happened was horrendous and undoubtedly didn't help the situation.

But that was no excuse to stop the protests. The other 11 supporter groups could (should) have come out and said “We don’t condone what happened at the Melbourne Derby, but we will continue to fight the APL decision.” Instead, they met with the APL and said “Yes Sir, Yes Sir, 3 Bags Full Sir.”

As I said in an earlier post, there is nothing to stop you from starting up the protests again now.  We are still months away from the GF. I don’t know what Danny Townsend told the supporter groups at that meeting, but he has them all wrapped around his little finger. And it makes me wanna vomit.

Nor you?

I'm not affiliated with any supporter group and as a 41 year old with a young family and hobbies I was never going to be at the centre of the protests aha

I also love going to watch United play WAY too much to stop because of decision we have no control over as shit as they may be.

I love the sport of football and have so little care for the rest of it.

I respect you guys who give so much to creating atmosphere and rivalries and will clap your protests but I'll do it while having a beer out of the house as an adult without baby toys for a few hours every couple of weeks.

I know that sounds selfish but I'm just being honest

Yes it all changed when other supporter groups gave up, because OSM changed the narrative from fans being the victims to being the perpetrators, so the message and effectiveness behind continued organised protests was lost.

Vic fans aren’t radically different from any other fans. Some will be militant and vow not to attend until the decision is reversed, however most will realise in the absence of collective unity with other fans and the realisation that APL wont change their decision that continued boycotts only hurts their club.

You really think 18k turned up protest? The best way to protest is to give APL their money and inflate crowd figures so they can let APL know how unhappy they are? Strange folk…

I promise you I will be keeping my 3 seats at Hindmarsh till either I die or the team does.

Yet somehow I'm the one that doesn't care and active supporters of other teams want to dictate what my fandom should look like.

I'm sounding like I didn't hate the GF decision when I really truly did and do and I did agree with some form of protest.

Still, there's no way I'm going to stop watching the best players my State produces fight it out on the national stage against a bunch of mercenaries and ring ins that play for everyone else :D

If you want to go to games that's fine. If you are happy with the grand final decision that's fine to. Different clubs have handled it differently. When you get an email from your clubs chairman who is part of the APL saying he didn't agree with the decision but then goes around the next day and takes the cash it's hard to want to continue to support while the current owners are still there.

I personally feel like going to any games at the moment is saying to the APL, you were right, we can walk all over the fans just give it a few weeks and it will simmer down. Australian football is fucked currently at a time we should have capitalised after the world cup. It's such a disappointment.

the timing of this thread is just impecable, especially when the EOI for clubs to clubs to join our second division is here.

i expect fans to abandon the A-league clubs in droves as they'll go back and support their nsl clubs

A-league clubs are gonna be bare bones in a few years
