+x+xWe got pumped in the cricket. My worst fears about our batting in India and England were realised. I hope that it was just a bad game. I still think that we need to find some talented young bstsmen and introduce them slowly, also get Head back in the side ASAP. Unless I'm mistaken Carey was out reverse sweeping in both innings. I think he's quite a talented batsman but in tests he should bat like a test batsman and leave the fancy stuff for t20. He actually plays that awful shot really well… but there’s def a time and a place…

+xThe DRS is a strange beast. The same ball can be out or not out depending on the umpire's call. Surely they have to decide if they trust the DRS or not. If not get rid of it. It’s stupid… agreed, it’s either good enough for every ball or it’s not good enough at all…

No. It must stay in any sport that hinges heavily on the right calls to be made. Let's face it, if its clear cut out, DRS will say so. If it's not conclusive, it's not unfair to get a reprieve. After all, it's there to stop a howler by the umpire, not replace the umpire. Everyone is aware of the process before a ball is bowled so there are no surprises.

Young fella comes home yesterday with a couple of mates… really anxious and scared “we are all going to die young because of the climate catastrophe “ after seeing a BTN (I think) episode at school….
These climate catastrophists and the presstitutes who present only worst case modelling and flat out lies in many instances are 100% guilty of modern progressive (read extremist) munchausen by proxy…
So looks like today is the day for a talk about how the presstitutes and germoulists work, as well as providing some more balanced information…

You are on solid ground with the Australian cricket comments. My point of view is that I don't want to pay for oil from Russia or Saudi Arabia when I can drive on Australian sunshine.

Carrots generally work better than sticks, don't show people a problem that they are powerless to do anything about.
Show them an opportunity to make money, save money or have a higher quality of life.

Saudis have the lowest cost of production followed by Russia, they will be the last 2 out the door. We don't know where our oil comes from. The other issue is that our oil reserves are held in the US. In the event of war, blockading oil supplies to OZ is even easier than beating Parra. Big trial today will the Grub impress?

Don't forget hd, not only that, Australia also has its own oil fields (under NSW if memory serves me correctly), but I doubt we own it... probably sold off by one our useless ineffective parasites we call politicians, in exchange for a cushy well paid board position after retirement from politics.

Preston in 35 mins has played himself into the 17, maybe even the 13.

It may only be a trial with a few regular FGers missing but I am enjoying what I see. Loads of energy and enthusiasm and the youngsters are showing we might have a bit of reasonable quality in the depth.

Biggest takeaway was the defensive system that even the Reggies held up. Really only one try from a defensive lapse, think only one line break. Try off a kick fluked off the post, a runaway off a dropped ball, a hit and spin that was a technique thing, and then the line break.
Canberra really never looked like breaking us open. And that’s a big thing.
Preston, Pele the good news stories, both will play a part in NRL. Easy for the big names to impress, more impressive to see the ones on the fringe pushing them all the way.
I think Preston’s gonna be a Bulldog to the bone.

Flanno was solid today, with some nice hands and taking in the line early… And welcome home JR, loved seeing him out there today… maybe… just maybe a shot on the bench…

So happy with the defensive line speed. Mahoney and Reynolds pushed everybody up. The enthusiasm is what’s been missing for years We finally have a hooker that can create points. Mahoney is identical to Ennis. Very smart operator.
Great to have a hard hitting back rower that runs good lines. Preston is on the right edge or at worst off the bench. Man of the match.
What was great to see was even when the reserve graders came on they still looked good in defence. Great work ethic.
Can’t wait for the next trial.

Depth surprised me the most, we have added some good players including some later and lower profile signings. We have lots of players that can cover multiple positions. We also look a bit fitter. Compared to the top sides we might not have as many x-factor players, but good defence can keep us in the game. This season will show how good Mitch Moses really is, and that might confirm how good Lou is.

Kikau will be on left though so not sure if he can play the same on the right. Did slot of good things though. I am warming to that idea as RFM can replace Kicks on the left, no rest for opposition defence on that side. Lock I am not sure whether to go with Sutton or TPJ. Perhaps start TPJ at prop with King on the bench. For starters a bench with RFM, King and Pele is strong. Multiple options for 14, including Grub. I have always thought that Grub would make a good 14. In the backs, Averillo and Burns are good players one of them might not make the round 1 side. In the forwards - Davey, Patolo and Topine are good players who might not be playing round 1. Even Grub isn't a certain round 1 inclusion.
