"We have said that they're our preferred candidate cities," said Townsend. "If we don't find the right investors in those two cities, we'll pivot to another city. Because what's happened over the course of the time that we've been market, there's other cities going: 'Why can't we have a go?'

"We're like: 'Just wait, you can be a part of [expansion plans for teams] 15 and 16. We've got our two preferred candidate cities.'

"But we expect that we'll be launching those two cities."

Like, whatever Danny, We believe you......

I get the impression that the target audience for this is just Silverlake

I wonder how long Townsend has got until first Dividend is due

No that's not it at all. My worry, and my expectation is, no owner would agree to a pro / rel model where they could lose their entire investment. Let's face facts, if a big club is relegated it will likely fold or be gutted and sold on for a nominal fee and exist as a NST team in name only.

Now you can say they can force pro / rel and they can but the owners will not let that happen.

The APL have looked at the Dolphins success and thought, let's have some of that.

The best thing to do would have been run the NST and promote the winner for the next 4 years to get to 16 teams. That would have been hands down the best way to get to 16. No relegation until 16 teams are reached and then in year 5 away we go.

That makes sense

No one has ever made any money in Australian football.

Melbourne Knights 'own' their ground and the train grounds around it and a lot of the land around it no idea how big it all is but it would easily be more then 30 acres

they probably havent made a dollar on football but the real estate they are sitting on would be north of a 100m in North Sunshine - keep in mind when they purchased that land North Sunshine was the ghetto but it has come a long way like more real estate in NSW and Victoria

obviously they 'arent selling up' but on paper they are probably worth more then the entire AL

im sure a number of the old clubs that own their grounds and training facilities would also be sitting on golden land - although a most of the clubs are using council facilities.

You make 'money' in most business in the weirdest ways - IE most football clubs make money from selling players and lose money on the sport and fielding teams as well.

McDonalds makes its money in real estate not really selling burgers

Cinemas make money at the Candy bar and lose or just break even on the movies themselves

Petrol stations are similar they break even on fuel but make money on in store sales

Our FFA have no idea how to 'make money' in football thus this is why we are in this current position we are in

one easy example - every AL club as part of entry should have a 'club house' of sorts in which fans/players go have dinner, drink and gamble - all the clubs functions should be held there and high end season ticket holders can go to certain player award nights etc - that is the easy start to not only make money but build a fan base....

these Kangaroos can play football -

I don't think it would be worth anywhere near that much, even if they were willing to sell. It's land zoned industrial, nowhere near any transport links. Even if you could get it re-zoned to residential I doubt you could fit more than 30 or so houses on that land. At around $700k a pop (average price for Sunshine) you could get $21m, but you'd have to take out the costs of demolishing the stadium, building the houses and all the associated infrastructures (roads, sewerage, power) and you might even have a bill for cleaning up toxic soil depend on what was there before the stadium. You could definitely make a few million profit but probably single figures.

The Silverlake sale valued the A-League at $420m, by contrast.

Knights Stdium is on the old site of a Drive in, next to the quarry, covers around 12.5 acres (51,000 m2). so cant see any hassles with residential zoning. Land in Sunshine is going for around $700K per 500m2 so at a very rough estimate the land alone would be worth 50-60 million to a developer.... who could, easily put on 140-150 houses at a hefty profit....

Meanwhile, it’s understood Sydney FC are looking to attract investors in a move which could see current owners - Scott Barlow and wife Alina - significantly dilute their 98 per cent ownership of the Sky Blues.

Formerly financed by Russian banker David Traktovenko, Alina’s father, the ownership structure changed in 2022 when Traktovenko quietly stepped away.

In a possible sign of more austere times ahead for the four-time A-League premiers, the Barlows last month divested themselves of their lavish Sydney harbourside residence for a cool $60m, almost a year to the day after paying $45m for the Point Piper property.

The couple’s apparent desire to downsize comes at a time when Sydney have signified they are prepared to listen to offers for their entire senior squad.

If a franchise in the sticks is worth $25m, how much is the SFC licence worth ?

A square metre in Sunshine averages $1700.

30 Acres = is just over 120,000sqm

Even at $100psm its worth $12Mill

God forbid its a $1,000psqm
The only question to ask is it really 30acres?

“In the three years since unbundling, APL has implemented a strategy that has seen a period of rapid growth across our business.

With the original three year strategy coming to an end, a planned full strategic and commercial review has taken place over the last several months.

The review has identified significant opportunities to create efficiencies through consolidation and this necessitates an organisational restructure that is now underway.

APL's priorities remain the same - to deliver commercial growth and sustainability by creating the most exciting competitions possible for our fans - with strong teams producing great young players across Australia and New Zealand."

Half of APL’s workforce to be made redundant amid A-League financial concerns

According to multiple sources, who requested anonymity in order to speak freely, close to 50 per cent of the 80-odd workers at the Australian Professional Leagues, the body which runs the A-Leagues, have or will lose their jobs this week.

Although it sucks for those people that have been made redundant, I question why they had 80 staff in the first place. Seems excessive considering the end product is a 12 team 27 round mens comp and a 12 team 22 round womens comp both without P&R.

How do you think they managed to have a thorough and comprehensive review of the tie-break procedure in order to make the competition more exciting

No, Fox Sport's chip on the shoulder is from paying overs for an extended broadcast deal only for it to effectively bankroll a civil war which sent half the audience that they paid for straight out the window.
