Inevitably Chelsea take the lead. Dier shocks by volleying one in but it's offside.

Yeah. I find it hard to see players get punished accidental things. Negligence needs punishing. I guess players just need to take that extra care. Not too sure how else Romero was to clear the ball but the follow through was on the dangerous side albeit unintentional.

Silly watching Spurs play with a high line when you're down to 9. Not sure what Ange was thinking there.

With 10, risky. With 9, suicidal.

Idiotic. Would like to see Ange bois defend that.

Difficult to watch Romero get sent off for winning the ball cleanly. I understand the rules.

I'd be more satisfied with the red if he clipped the top of the ball and then followed through but he won that cleanly.

Based on my playing experience, I see it differently. I saw a player win the  ball then deliberately carry on over the ball, studs up, in an an attempt to injure a opposing player. If am sure that the intent was there.
And I was supporting Spurs.

Commentary moaning about VAR coming in for checks. You idiots created it! You would pick up little things that refs missed and use it to fuel stories and panel discussions.

I can't remember having red cards for bad tackles with a mix of ball and man 10 years ago. It was mostly put down to speed and momentum and clashes and part of the game. Players and refs just got on with it and were too busy trying to play to notice fingertip handballs or an accidental tread on someone's foot.

Commentary and coaches started picking these things out. Producers kept replaying and replaying it. Journalists wrote obsessively. Like they care. They've got endless content to churn with an extra conditional of 'with or without VAR'  now.

Excellent post.

I remain convinced that VAR is all about combating betting related match fixing, nothing else. Which is why it is never going away.

Ange will never change he's ways, that's how he is and will even fall on he's own sword whether it be 11 or 9 men.

This should not be a surprise by a manager who sticks to he's principles in how he wants he's teams to play football.

No sure how you can lunge forward to win a ball and then stop in mid-air after you've won the ball.

Weird double post there that I can't edit.

Anyway.

Ange will be in for some well deserved criticism this week.

Not that he will care.

You may be right but man it looked ugly on replay. Lucky no broken leg came of it. Personally, I would have thought yellow card, given he was got the ball, but it is what it is.

It was crazy to see in the EPL.... what annoyed me is Chelsea have really struggled to break down a good block he should of just sate deep and got the draw. But Ange has no plan B so not sure what I was hoping lol

Saw a post match interview and he goes (paraphrasing) 'that's how we play mate, and as long as I'm here that's how we'll always play'.

Seen all this when he coached Australia. It's maddening.

I understand you want to stick to your philosophy but I invite anyone to watch the last 15 minutes and tell me that wasn't nuts. In fact here's a clip.

Yeah I get you. I understand it's a red 'because' the onus is on the player when they make those tackles.

To give an example if you high foot a ball and then kick old mate in the head then you're getting a red. Same sort of philosophy here.

They're having fun with Romero on twitter. Quite a few good clips doing the rounds.

People complaining that Tottenham should have parked the bus. Does it matter? Very difficult to get any points after playing 30 odd minutes with 9 men. I would love to know the last time any professional team got a point after going down to 9 men with 30 odd minutes to go. Name me one!

Seemingly the idea was to get Chelsea to play in behind in order to try and get the ball back. It worked so some extent. I felt it annoying when they had 6 men on the edge of the goal box defending when they'd generally only have 4. Those 3 chances down the other end were what they aimed to gain. Still, there were times where they should've spread a bit more. I also found it a bit odd to bring in Dier straight away rather than just drop Bissouma or Sarr back for a while. Johnson's energy should've been exhausted first. It'll be a very different squad next game. I reckon Van de Ven will be out for a good while.

Postecoglou rolled the dice and nearly pulled it off.

The 3 points isn't the real loss.  Its the injury to Van De Veen- and you could argue it was caused by the high line tactics and the physical demands it put on the players.

Never boring watching his teams play, that's  for sure

Yes, but the really good managers know when to adapt.

I think he knows that with 9 men the conventional option would be to defend deep in his own half and hope a counter presents itself?   Of course he knows.  He just refuses to do it because on the balance of probabilities at the highest level, he loses anyway 9.9 times out of ten anyway unless its St Mirren.

In 2014 when asked about how he would play against the likes of Netherlands and Spain he said "We won't die wondering".

I think that's his philosophy in a nutshell.

Richarlison set for surgery. Big opportunity for Ange to start promoting some of the academy talents. A good test of squad depth now. Here's hoping there'll also be positive winter transfer support and the way Spurs come across now, they'll be attractive for players to join

Ange may be better than really good, he may be brilliant. Or a fool. Time will tell. There probably aren't too many managers in the world who could've achieved what Ange has with Spurs in such a short amount of time.

The craze over Ange being the new Media Darling, they haven't seen Ange's stubborn-foolish side. Who of you remember Ange's insistence on playing 3 at the back, and the failures this led during WCQ's because he "didn't have cattle" - or the quality of players to do that.

I think most recognise Ange wasn't a great international coach. Essentially he wasn't able to adapt his system to players who were poor on the ball, and the extreme heat and unpredictable playing surfaces in the ME. But in the EPL he will have no such excuses.

Before Chelsea went 3-1 ahead, Spurs had two massive chances created through playing proactively.

I doubt the two free-kicks which lead to the chances would have been created with a back-5 and a target man up top.

Football is a game of fine margins and Ange nearly pulled it off.

2 goals in junk time flattered Chelsea who were awful.
