+x+x+x+x+x+x8 more than any other Second Division national competition in Australia mate. Underwhelming sure, but gotta be better than nothing right? I want to say better than nothing. Let's hope it lasts more than a year. 3 years tops I reackon :) Just disappointing after such a long time. And the delay by a year. yer I hear ya. You wonder what and why ? Is it moneys up front the FA set too high ? Or is that X Clubs are too ambitious ? Whats going on in Qld ? Why couldn't a SA Club make the grade ? From a list of 32 down to 20 for eg now 8 definates with possible 2/4 more before end of 24 ? The 2/4 are obviously on the edge of the FA cut and give them the time I suspect. I'd say that's likely the case. Previous administrations would have just postponed the whole thing via a press release on their website and announced nothing. It would seem that the FA have taken a more positive approach and actually announced what they can. Based on their initial criteria, they could have very easily chosen to go for a cup format as they only managed to finalise 8 clubs. The others would be very close. We know Sunshine Coast would be in the running, as would be Melbourne Knights. It would be a massive shame if they couldn't line up at least two more clubs from other states. A VIC/NSW only comp will get boring quickly. Not to mention the lack of any real ability for a club like Avondale to "market itself".. Its gonna be hard for South and Preston to "only" have 2 x local away days but at least the promise of rekindling rivalries from days gone past will bring both clubs some decent home crowds... Avondale would need us and Preston to visit in huge numbers for them to even sell more than 100 tickets .. Ic an see them folding like Carlton SC unless there is another Melbourne club in there soon.

+xSo from next year across the top two tiers of Australian football we have: NSW = 10 teams Victoria = 6 teams New Zealand = 2 teams The rest of Australia (4 states and 2 territories) manages 4 teams in total between them. Surely it would be simpler just to combine NSW and Vic federations and say job done.
patience mate, Brisbane Utd just needs to get their federation off their back and they are coming :)

+xIt reads like someone has written a fairly general article about the NST announcement, and then an editor has come in, changed the headline/photo and added a paragraph at the start and end to shift the contention elsewhere. Is that the same editor who fawns over the AFL in most of the ABC ‘s sports articles ?

Great step forward for the game, for the first time ever we will have a 2nd division in Australian football.
Regardless of what people think about the lack of clubs outside of NSW/Victoria this is a big step forward for the game and will take our game to the next level.
Good luck to the clubs involved, an exciting time for them and the fans involved who have waited a long time to be back on the national stage. It's also good for the players especially the ones that need an opportunity to play at a national level which can only be a good thing.
Im also sure we will get more clubs based on what JJ said, cant wait till a ball gets kicked in 2025!

Just heard JJ say they're looking at 2-4 more entrants before the season starts. Sounds like talks are ongoing.

+xtook them long enough. The looney left at ABC are one day free Palestine, the next, pro Israel. i dont think anyone can take them seriously. So one minute they're too biased and the next, when they're presenting both sides you can't take them seriously'. You blokes.

A couple of silver linings came out of it - some clubs with huge crowds like sfc, mv and wsw, the ntc seems to have made an impressive difference and may not have been possible without the clean air the reset provided. However, it has been 18 years of painful rebuilding and ignoring so much of the football community With the womens world cup being massive and the return of some cornerstone effnick clubs with the nst, this year has been a triumph of the "sheilas wogs and p*&ftas"

feck the abc, as relevant as the voice was. Good things mentioned in bold : However, promotion and relegation will not be introduced immediately, with FA CEO James Johnson saying the new league's stability and sustainability will be prioritised ahead of the introduction of a system by which A-League Men clubs can be relegated and NSD clubs can be promoted, "connecting" the pyramid that most other footballing nations currently work within."Our goal is to ensure that the national second tier not only enhances the competitive landscape, but also embodies the spirit and aspirations of Australian football at all levels," Johnson said. "This is more than just a competition; it's a cornerstone in our mission to fortify the foundations of our sport."The national second tier will be instrumental in nurturing talent, engaging communities, and elevating the overall quality of football across the country." Who in their right mind are against those quotes looking ahead instead of crapping on about SU.

So much history which we should embrace, and indeed its been a good year for the game credit for FA and JJ for putting the game back on the right track and im sure what work lies ahead too.

Melbourne Knights not in the 8

With diagrams go here https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1726457394593665179.html
As many of you may know, I stepped down from the presidency of @MelbKnights a month ago. That was a decision more related to the game itself than it had to do with the club. I have stepped away from the game because its infested with people that lack vision and conviction. I spent 13 years on the board, 6 six years consecutively as president & 10 years as a Federation zone rep. Now, considering that I am totally free to comment on matters as I see fit - you'll get some background on where the second division is actually at.
For over a decade, I worked with people like @NickGalatas to get @AAFClubs formed, to convince the footballing public about the need for a second division, to get AAFC recognised by FFA and ultimately to get a second division off the ground I wrote the club's response to the Whole of Football plan, the commentary on the Second division whitepaper and an assortment of other commentary both public and private on this topic. In August 2022 - I was present at the first serious meeting with @FootballAUS regarding the National second division which was part of a national roadshow in getting the competition off the ground. This was a meeting at which FA presented its vision for the national second division. I would have signed up for it that day. It had clubs at the centre of shaping the competition - with the only point of discussion being to hold the competition in summer. As you can probably gather - reading the August 2022 document and looking at today's Football Australia announcement - the governing body has not hit the notes that they wrote themselves. Many of you may ask why?
Fast forward to early 2023 and FA opens up Expressions of Interest for the NSD. 32 clubs / entities apply. We're still basing our excitement on the roadshow presentation which is philosophically exactly what the majority of the clubs want. The clubs then put in a 20 page submission document which then selected the next set of applicants for the Request for Proposal Stage. It was at this point that the clubs were forced to sign non disclosure agreements. This was the August 2022 timeline. Clubs working together with FA through the process to get the best model possible. Instead they were muzzled and told to stump up a $500,000 bank guarantee within three months. It became clear to me that FA felt that they knew best, that it was time for a competitive process even though the actual criteria around many things were never discussed, developed or agreed upon It also became clear that FA were beginning to totally disregard the cornerstones of what they initially presented - criteria around facilities, decades long commitment to the top level of the game, financially viable for the clubs I presented all of this information to our club members at the AGM to NOT expect the @MelbKnights to be announced as part of the foundation of the NST. The only reason I am sharing this publicly now is because our supporters and the general football public have a right to know.
Football Australia consistently missed meeting deadlines, had tardy documentation drawn up and continually edited, set arbitrary financial impositions without consultation and I generally found them to be unprofessional and unserious. If anyone has any questions - feel free to ask them. As I said in the beginning, I hold no role or function in the game any more and a lot of it has to do with this.

P.S And for anyone that wants to know what I have to compare to - I have dealt with the Croatian federation for many years. It's Champions league vs. Azerbaijan second division. Finally I'd like to add to all the @MelbKnights fans. Don't forget we weren't in the National league in its first year either. I don't see this version of an NSD running away and being ultra successful - we do what's best for the club - not worth risking a long term future.

So Knights are out becuase its not being played in summer and Pave thinks the FA is unprofessional???? Theres gotta be something more to it than that? Just saw a Qld annoucement - nothing much here though. https://footballqueensland.com.au/2023/11/20/football-queensland-statement-on-national-second-tier/ Hypocrisy unbridled, or they're on something strong

This is my only explanation for the 2 week delay FA trying to get the wankers up there to come to their senses. So now we have "8, maybe 10, maybe 12 starting a year late" being dressed in this weird light cos they couldn't wait any longer to announce something FA stumbling too slowly through the process whilst FQ play their silly games

At least now, we know the NDAs prevented clubs from revealing what was happening with final selection so now that the "cat is out of the bag" hopefully we hear some more about those mythical "2-4 clubs" I soooo want there to be another 4 at least starting in 2025 .... even if 2-4 future ones need 2-3 years to get their shit together Id be happy with promotion only of clubs being "groomed" for it and then full pro/rel with 3rd tier below..... Gives any potential national NPL winner a good 2-3 years to get their act together and start planning their finances and facilities.....
