+xMark rudan says that he doesnt believe a coach can lose a dressing room To be fair to him, its something ive heard fans say but has there ever been a confirmed concrete case of that? Closest i can think of was arnie saying in 07 the players tripped him as a joke in training The media are always looking for these sorts of stories. Not long ago he was doing a good job with a pretty young side. There are unconfirmed reports of players and coaching staff wanting to leave.

+x+xWe got outplayed both individually and as a team. Macarthur (grubby diving bastards) have better individual skills and today they played better team football too. Watching them attack, when they chose to, they had 7 players streaming forward when in possession and passed the ball into space to the next running player. When we had the ball we had a ball carrier looking around, everyone standing flat footed in their 'attack positions' and one player who expected the ball up the wing running. We just could not put any consistent pressure on Macarthur's big, strong, skilled defenders the way we were playing. That said - I remember 4 clear botched attempts at goals that should have all gone in. Two at the feet of our one dedicated striker (Waddingham) who had a shocker in front of goals and skied them both, one was a header directly between me and the goals with no-one in the line of the shot and we headed it wide, and the one miss hit gentle nudge along the ground that rolled towards the open goal and the keeper managed to get to it. Got to say, scoring first in the opening 20 minutes was a bonus and suggested we might be in some form - but then the rest of the game happened. O'Shea went invisible for periods in the game, which is always a sign we are not combining properly. Rojas, Mileusnic, Hore and Berenguer looked like they were struggling to make an impact over the whole of the game. I think Jelacic had one of the worst games I can remember - getting caught in possession time after time (thanks Cindy), lacking vision to see Macarthur closing him down, and seemingly trying to bumble the ball through challenges and failing - leaving Macarthur free behind him with the ball more often than not. I think we miss Caletti in the midfield just being busy and a presence, and keeping the ball moving back and forth while also freeing up O'Shea to push forward when he wants to. Aldred and Hingert were out of the game for pace any time the ball came down our right hand side - and while I think Hingert did a fantastic job of battling skilful speed using experience and body strength, it is not any way to try and build a competitive series. To have two slower players trying to cover each other in that open space is a struggle for us and a guarantee that any team with speedy wingers has a chance to create down the wing unimpeded at some point. Brown did pretty well today - ignoring his crosses that went beyond the back post to nobody - and created some opportunities for us. Trewin was his usual effective self but for some reason he made a few forward runs today that did not really add to our attacking strength and probably weakened our defence by having him out of the line. Burke-Gilroy came on for a short game on the right and demonstrated his speed when he tried to get back and help O'Shea stop Desilva in open space behind our defensive line on the fly. O'Shea did a great job of putting pressure on him so the shot was cactus, but Burke-Gilroy was eating up the ground trying to get there too. Freke had another good game - with one excellent tip over early on particularly. At the ground I thought he should have come for the ball that gave them the second goal when it looped up high. Having never been a keeper I base that on nothing other than a feeling that he should have been on his toes and come out for it given how high it went. Looking forward, we have a good understudy for Aldred in Nikolovski, but we still need a speedy right fullback, defensive mid, and striker to really be complete. Macarthur's structure, individual skill and resilient defenders were just too good for us today. Good thing is, we have no easy games ahead so if we were to make the six we would have bloody well earned it. Edit: Ballymore is a 'little ground' experience, with more comfortable seats than Suncorp but an inconvenience to get to. They put on free shuttle buses, but for me I had to drive to one train station to park the car, catch a train to another train station, walk the short walk to Perry Park, then shuttle bus to Ballymore. Just a bit more annoying than drive, park and walk to Suncorp. I think they said just over 3k in attendance - and no surprise in that really. Beef Burger cost over $16 for a meat patty, cheese, sliver of onion and mustard. Small cup of chips for $7. Did not enhance the experience for me. The little 'big screen' was pointless for replays with termites running round doing indeterminate stuff for the most part. Always enjoy your detailed reports. Lucky for you being able to attend live AL football every fortnight in close proximity! Younger players like Jelacic can be prone to inconsistency. Watching the game on TV it is interesting to note you thought Mac had better movement when in possession from your live vantage point? Do you think Mac Pressed and Squeezed more effectively than Roar to stifle Roar's passing lanes, hence disturbing Roar build ups more effectively? Or were Roar just more static in off the ball movement as they built up? The latter. When Macarthur pressed us we played excellent controlled and composed football with our triangles and lateral and backwards passes - but with the purpose and outcome of working through the blockage rather than just being the old 'back and round'. It is a feature of our play that I particularly love to see and we have done it to some of the hardest pressing teams this season. It is when we are looking to attack and there is a ball carrier and an expected receiver moving and everyone else is standing flat - time and again. You can count on the forwards to take up a line with the opposition centrebacks, the back line to stand in their umbrella back pass stations, one winger to stand flat while the one expecting the ball runs, and the midfield to take up a static position somewhere and wait for a pass. Nobody is putting any pressure on the opposition to move or make decisions that might disrupt them. The issue is that we do not have to play that way - we seemingly fall into that pattern often. It is actually part of the role of Caletti that I was talking about. He continues to offer options that we may or may not take up all game and they force our opponents to move to cover him. Our wingers are capable of getting in behind and crossing - we see that often - so having a bit more movement in the middle to draw attention away does a lot to help unsettle the defenders when the cross does come in. When you add in being a goal down, everything about our static build up gives the opposition a much more advantageous position to be playing from when we need them scrambling and making hasty decisions.
When I wear their colours, I am the club.

For some reason, there are no matches broadcast on FTA TV this weekend. Shit timing for WU v MV with 1st Round of AFL and Richmond v Carlton on next door... Don’t Richmond play Carlton first round of every afl season?! Nothing fixed or rigged about that the AFL is completely rigged. they doctor the draw and choose who plays each other twice based on revenue they also have match fixing, but they call it 'tanking' No doubt but it IS popular with the crowds. nearly 90 thousand at the MCG last night versus what about 2 thousand at AAMI? Also Aleague shouldnt be complaining about doctored draws based on revenue.... :P There is no doubt that AFL is the biggest game in the world in Melbourne, it's outside Melb, Adel & Perth where they struggle. They are improving in nsw and QLD. Gws and goldy got around 22k last weekend. The A-League struggles in Sydney, hardly any talk in pubs, cafes & work places. The Pubs even those near the stadium don't show the A-League. But stop listening to the Melbourne media, the pubs have the AFL on, hardly anyone watching, go to pubs, cafes or work places & you hardly hear anyone talking AFL. Jesus mate, thats just not true. https://www.mediaweek.com.au/tv-ratings-march-7-2024-afl-2024-season-opener-reaches-2-3-million-on-seven/Whats the comeback, that less people in Sydney own a televison so the 2.3 million are all in Collingwood and Richmond? 2.3 million people in Sydney watching this game? Haha Come back & tell how many in Sydney watched these games. Listen I live here I know the feeling. Swans were in GF 2 years ago, you would hardly know it. No houses with swans flags, no cars, hardly anyone wearing swans merch, pubs weren't packed. Are there many houses with Macarthur or Sydney City flags mate? Are the pubs packed to watch the Aleague .... I believe you about AFL not being a big thing in Sydney but the crowds in the stands tell another story. Sydney city, you say ? Been gone for a long while at national league level. Meh, sorry wasnt sure (nor care) if Lowy went full "Sevco" with Hakoa or not.... point still stands, are there many flags hanging outside peoples homes in Sydney?

Yes during Grand final time you see houses & cars with flags of their teams or even during Matildas run in WC. You are obsessed with your A-League hate. Never did I say A-League bigger than AFL in Sydney, football is yes. However Sydney is all NRL, with football 2nd (NOT A-League), I know your other pet hate Rugby, but fact AFL is a niche sport in my fair city & hope it remains that way as it's a shit sport..

The new ratings method shows national figures only. They are not split into the different markets now. From historical figures maybe 10% would live in Sydney. Fair enough, but the point still stands that 10% of 2.3 million is alot more than 100% of SFA.

Melbourne had more Matildas and Australia flags during the WWC than ANYTHING every related to AFL too mate... thats patriotism and womens sport movement, not that hard to understand. What I was questioning is how popular the Aleague was compared to AFL in Sydney.. Down here in Melbourne it is no competition, just wanted to know if it could possibly be in Sydney... I dont hate Rugby mate, just dont understand it nor have ever bothered to. If you hate AFL that is more than fine with me... TBH I really can't say that I notice one is more popular than the other (AL/AFL) unless your travelling by near either stadiums or public transport that I don't do that much. With all the huge dollars afl have spent in our city its a blimp to me whereas I do notice the SFC/WSW shirt wearer heading to games. I would think swans get more attending games because its a fad and the many melb expats plus swans been aorund since eddelstone days - whatever they are called out west wouldn't have a friggin clue......

I don't hate AFL, I just don't care for it, like most people from Sydney. This is what I was telling you when you started posting photos of the Swans & Giants games. You go to Pubs, cafes, work places, where people get together, if they talking sport they talking NRL, you go the playing fields & mainly kids are either playing football or kicking a round ball around, very rarely do you see those funny posts required for AFL, this is Sydney.

it is a small % of the general pop overall to me but 40k get to swans up here to the real G haha you see that. The other crowd I just checked and as I thought, the other day was a 8k of all places Syd Olympic park that is easy to get to... Mind you that is kind of AL crowd high. Alot of freebie ticks are always thrown out my mate tells me but AL does the same. People like getitng outside, not sure they are all right into afl just that its a day out, bit of a novalty to me.

They want a family friendly atmosphere and get it, Aleague doesnt know what it wants to be.... One day its "fish where the fish are", the other its star wars and pride rounds they other its ..."oh look at us we have safe standing and colourful smoke".... They could just concentrate on the football and let each club appeal to whatever type off fan represents them but they would have to break the franchise agreement I suppose first?

The Sydney Derby got 30K in the A-League, which is run by the worst run sporting competition in the land, the APL, where there is no marketing, no looking after the fans, no future planning. Yet you get excited about 40K (first game in 6 months for this game) for the best run competition in this country.

+x+x+x+xit is a small % of the general pop overall to me but 40k get to swans up here to the real G haha you see that. Still mate 40 k to a regualr season game is ALOT more than Storm get down ehre or Aleague in either town ... Whther its a novelty or not their marketing is working. Maaaattte thats 1 game.... no worries you cant (or more likely refuse) to see my point... OK, nothing to see here all good. The only point you have is your hatred for both Sydney and the A League.

For some reason, there are no matches broadcast on FTA TV this weekend. Shit timing for WU v MV with 1st Round of AFL and Richmond v Carlton on next door... Don’t Richmond play Carlton first round of every afl season?! Nothing fixed or rigged about that probably won’t affect crowd numbers much cos there was hardly anyone at City game Tuesday night with no other codes playing same time Good boy, always sticking up for your favourite sport. Go back to your own country Sutho, this is Australia. hahahahah The top left hand side of the Australian flag suggests that I am in my own country ! Only an observation of course. Are you talking about the Scottish flag crushed underneath England and Northern Irelands flags? Not at all, Scotland has most of the Union flag.

Meh, the Greek flag has more representation in the union jack than Scotland does... hahahahahahahaha Utter fail would be Greek boy., wrong shade of blue, but ,hey nice try.
