Looks like they deliberately didnt put bodies forward. Usually with the roos u see almost the whole team forward.

Lets hope the conservatism pays off

Wow Ivar Jenner one of Indonesia's best players red carded and won't play against us. That's massive. He was very good against Australia at the Asian Cup.

huge loss... he was massive for them at the back... decent player.

Can someonen do a 1-10 summary with all the players that played?

Everyone was in the 4-7 range besides Beach the GK who was probably more 8-9 range.

I don't think it was an easy game to play, even through we got players that capable of breaking a deep block defence down we didnt take enough risk in possession which has been a common theme for oz teams in general when facing asian opposition.
Vidmar said post game they were wary of doing this and in theory it became a cat and mouse game of not conceding on the counter attack as well.

At least we got a point on board and Indonesia need to win so I suspect a more open game, get a win in the next 2 games and we are probably get out of the group.

We really needed this win, I honestly believe Indonesia may have more firepower than us and could definitely beat us desperate for a win, so it may come down to the last game against Qatar for us. Maybe we head out with 4-5 points from this group. Hoping for 7.

Given the way the draw works for this tournament, I don't think it matters how many points we head out with, just that we do.

Purely based off seeding, and making the assumption that we somehow win our quarter-final:

Win the group, Semi is against the winner of Saudi Arabia v Vietnam
Lose the group, Semi is against the winner of Uzbekistan v Iraq

I book the first person that's not relevant that comes up to me and doesn't leave when I tell them to (relevant to me = Part of the foul or captains. Max 4 players [2 from each team] should be with me).

I take a very Rugby Union approach to things like that.

And anyone who grabs my arm (luckily that hasn't happened yet) would be getting a straight red a la Mr. Griffiths in the Grand Final years back.

That's how it should be officiated.

We will see how we go on Thursday’s match but it seems they played it too safe and felt a loss would set them back so now they need to win.

You think Indonesia will play a different style?

unlike us who were surprisingly conservative against jordan (perhaps because of fear of their wingers) china have committed 8 men forward when they face a deep block

before the red card it looked like it would be a cake walk for japan

The Olymroos should learn from the Chinese. Look at how urgency to move the ball around to attack after Japan down to 10 men.  Look how they put the number into the box to put pressure on Japan. They're playing like their lives depend on it and attack after attack they don't let Japan breath.

Looking back at us yesterday after Jordan down to 10. No urgency at all. They played like they were up 4-0 with still plenty of time with 15 minutes to go.  The whole game only 2 shots on target is embarassing.  Probably we are the most frustrating team to watch.

Apparently not unfortunately. Got back from watching Irankunda's last Melbourne game and this guy was so electric. Adelaide aren't going to make the finals now so him not being called up in this form is wild.

South korea looking as toothless as us against a defensive minded team. They had an aerial threat tho and got three good hwaders on goal with the final one going in

Uae unlike jordan had no counter attacking threat

Remarkably cagey so far, in our group and japans group there has so far been 1 goal from open play and only 4 goals in 4 games

Anyone know how we went?

I have seen two websites that say the Inter Milan U17 v Australia U16 game has been delayed/postponed. Nothing else I can find about it yet so I can't say whether that is true or not.

When I wear their colours, I am the club.

To be fair, he’s competing against the likes of Berenguer, O’Shea, Jelacic and Hore for a spot in the 10 role.

The fact that we play close a top Serie A academy that are 2 years older on average and have played a whole season together and this is our 2nd game with scattered lineups of random 11's is pretty good. We have literal 14 years old on the pitch. It fills me with confidence.

Along with official stats, I compiled  some of my own  from a second look a the Aus V Jordan U 23  fixture.

There were some real idiosyncrasies.

Possession - Aus 70%, Jordan 30%.

Passes completed - Aus 588, Jordan 232.

Passing accuracy - Aus 81%, Jordan 56%.

Shots at goal - Aus 13 ( I recorded 15), Jordan 3.

Shots on target - Aus 2, Jordan 2 ( I recorded 3).

Balls played into the pen box - Aus 40, Jordan 28.

Of balls played into the pen box, I denoted dangerous balls, that were difficult for the defence to deal with. Aus played 14 dangerous balls, Jordan 8. Jordan had  4 in very quick succession early in the second half, which forced some difficult saves from Beach.

Keeper saves - Aus 4, Jordan 4.

Corners - Aus, 4, Jordan 7.

Weirdly with the far less shots at goal, Jordan had much better chances, forcing Beach to make some difficult saves.

For me the game was a huge disappointment  from the Olyroos,   given the games I've seen them recently play against Saudi, Egypt, Qatar, South Korea and Iraq.

I  thought Farrell had a shocker by his own lofty standards. Others off forum I know, thought he was good, but  probably haven't seen him play as much as me.

I also thought Milanovic looked relatively innocuous compared to all the recent games I've seen him play.

Others off forum thought Teague struggled. I  thought he was okay.

From previous games I used to do detailed stats for a decade ago, it can take just 2- 3 players to have off days and an entire team's performance can plummet as a team unit.

I didn't think Jordan played a deep defensive block. They mainly played a higher defensive line than a Partial Press ( Deep Block), with more of a Half Press ( only trying hard to win the ball in their own defensive half). At times they Full Pressed with Intensive Squeezing in the Aus defensive  half at right  and left full back positions - gegenpressing.

Jordan was well organised and Squeezed Intensively in their own half.

I've read that Vidmar was worried about two fast Jordan in forwards in counter attacks, so he didn't commit as many players forward to put more bodies in the  pen box, because of the perceived risk in the Aus Defensive Transitions.

It is a big step to qualify after the humbling  game against Jordan.

If Indonesia have 10 players from the senior Asian Cup they will be really tough  opposition. They worried the senior Socceroos at the Asian Cup.

We could really do with the UEFA players whose clubs failed to release them.

A  few positives  from the Jordan game - Perkins played far better at left CB than I've seen him play previously. Solid game.

Popovic- thought he was a rugged CB. Thought  that  tackle  was idiotic in extra time, which was a clear foul that conceded a free kick. It was paramount we wasted as little time as possible, when they were a man down.  It enabled Jordan to waste more time.

Jake H - was busy and very effective early on. He swapped flanks as a twin number 10 with Youlley, confusing Jordan, then moved up and  down in a rough line between left DM and left AM, rotating the midfield triangle. He might have run out of steam a bit early though, as Vidmar subbed him off at 60 mins. Jake H might not have been creating the turnovers that Vidmar wanted,  like he did earlier in the game

Youlley - only being 19 is already a  terrific passer over range. I think the pitch against Jordan was enormous.  Youlley's ability to pinpoint long diagonal passes, is very impressive at such an early age. He isn't an effective enough ball winner  yet, despite being nimble on his feet when jockeying, and being difficult to wrong foot.

Also, Youlley has a decent  first touch and fast handing speed in pass and move sequences of play in tight spaces. He gets into position quickly  with effective body shape, when opening passing lanes for teammates before they get the ball, and when they are in possession of it. Youlley looks to have a big future.

We looked better when the subs came on. Toure should've scored after Talbot put it on a silver plater for him, but somehow put it into row z instead. Probably the worst game I've seen Farrell  play. As you said, Teague was solid & I also thought Youlley was our best outfield player. Beach was good. I was very disappointed with Milanovic & Holman - they didn't bring their club form with them. Hopefully it was jet lag.
