+xWatching England feels like when watching the Socceroos play, except they have genuine world class quality players to work but the similarities with us is pragmatic tacticians who lack the ability to control their opponents with the ball and rely heavily on counter attacks to get results. I dont see England winning the euros or get close to it unless they get better at controlling games, I feel like they lack a top class No.6 or 8 similar to the likes of Rodri and Fabian Ruiz excellent technicians who are great at controlling the tempo and rhythm of the game. TAA is not a No.6/8 and Rice is a box to box player but cant control a tempo because he has the likes of Odegaard and Jorginho in the team who do it for him at Arsenal. I would like to see either Bellingham play deeper or try young Kobbie Mainoo who is that kind of player in a sense but lacks experience but this is Southgate we are talking about here, Mr Progmatic himself. Spain were excellent and I fancy their chances with that world class midfield and dangerous front three especially their wingers who are hard to stop. I still have issues in where will their goals will come from plus their defence but so far so good for Spain, Italy were disappointing and lacked ambition today but they will be ok. I missed Serbia vs Slovenia, it must be a balkan thing to have close ending to games. Barca, I agree on your comments re the 3Lions, correct its Southgate more than the players. He needs to let them loose a little and more so his selections. Christ TAA is no 6 at all, he has potential in developing possibly into one through a Club season but not throwing him in the wolves without much experience there let alone bang in the Euros. Your right about Bellingham sitting deeper OR I'd even try him at 6 - he has the guile to adjust his game to suit. Can press him higher when the time is right. Again Southgate selections, most of his midfield are box to box with attacking nouse, there is no genuine sit back in the hole 6. Gallagher works but he always plays high for Chelsea, your Rice comments are spot on. Mainoo as young as he is has shown for United some good defending in the middle of the park and distribution, another worthwhile gamble but now I think its too late to try some unknowns by Southgates thinking. Mate your wrong about Italy, they are lucky to make it let alone have many players who have played together much compared to Spain. Barring the few Snr players they are rebuilding and I think they played the perfect holding game considering who they played and similar to many games the past week hitting better teams on the counter, they lack a striker and 2 and a stronger 6. Got GK covered no worries there, Donna is world class. Lets not forget under all that pressure its a OG, kudos to them imo.

+x+x+xOdd choice of referee kit for Spain Italy with gold getting the choice. Blue would have stood out way more. I believe there's colour-blindness considerations these days Interesting. But even black would have been better I would have thought. Yeah me too, not sure It's about 1 in 6 males are Red/Green https://enchroma.com/pages/types-of-color-blindness

I'm calling it now, Slovenia will beat England. They are a quality team, move the ball well.
Danes just pressed England so well... they just gave everyone the recipe to destroy them with an organised press. God I wish we got the chance to play this england team we would have a good chance.
If the danes can beat the serbs then england could finish 3rd and play germany and be knocked out as I expected lol

+x+xWe put up a very strong defensive game against imo one of the likely finalists. Spaletti has Italy playing to great shape and composure I’m impressed. Italy are rebuilding whereas Spain a year or so ahead. They need to finish more but their possession game is damn impressive, young Pedri is a top player already and Williams and Jamal are stars to the future. Did well to keep Spain out to only the one own-goal. Spain were on top of us through most of the match. But yes, I think that is down to Spaletti coaching in a good defensive shape, the only thing they lack at the moment is a real out-and-out striker (And it tells from that late missed chance, where there was a cross with two open players in the box and they both just couldn't get to it.) Italy was solid, but Spain was special, they have talent all over the park & so young.

It's true Southgate kept getting England to tournament heights but it was clear the manner might come back to bite them. Typically they'll do very well the next 2 games.

+xUtter garbage from England. Southgate without a plan and players just without bite. England seem allergic to trying to do anything technically difficult. Commentators really frustrated thought they sat too deep and didnt put enough energy into the press

Quite a strike from denmark
Denmark look technically stronger, much more willing to turn with their first touch, much more willing to pass into traffic in zone 14
They have taken a fraction too long taking their shots though, need to shoot without a backlift

For all their premier league stars, no english player willing to try and turn with their first touch when playing out, even when they are under little pressure
Also no one willing to pass the ball to players in front of the box against a set defence. Makes their attack a bit limited

Just looked at the minutes in big 5 leagues from second teir euro nations today compared to 20 years ago
I was wrong! The 2nd teir has improved massively!
I guess this makes sense when there has been a huge rise of foreign players in the big 5. A lot of those are from europe

+x+x+x+xHow's Germany's first goal? Massive shove in the back, defender goes flying = ref goes 'all good'. VAR checks it, nothing to see here. Have to laugh. Imagine if they reffed like that in the A League. People would lose their minds. Anyone interested in how refs ref at this level pay close attention to how much physical stuff is let go. The rules seems to be if you can't hold a player off or stand your ground, bad luck. It's fascinating to watch. Yep. Generally with that - look for the forearms (that's when there's a foul). Will need to watch the highlights from this mornings games though to see this incident though. While you're at it watch Duka high kick a shot at goal and collect the croatian in the head. YC. Lol. (93rd minute.) Sat in seminars for years where they go high foot, IDFK. High foot and contact RC. Again I don't care if that's what they've decided but they're definitely playing by a different set of rules at this level. Interesting, considering like you said, that's the way we've been told in the seminars. Will keep an eye out for it Just tried to screenshot it but optus have a clever way that doesn't let you do it. He full on kicks him flush in the head. He is somewhat crouched but even so it seems that if you're shooting 'then that's OK'. Pretty much meets every definition of 'dangerous' I've seen.

Initially I saw nothing in it but then a real crunch right in the zone to knock the player down. Yes BUT that's happening everywhere and they're letting it go which is fine by me if that's the level of physicality they want to allow. No issue from me. I love the argy bargy. It should be a battle and a contest. I agree and I hate the backing into a marker and then just sitting on the floor to get a free. More physical natural movement needs to be permitted.
