+x+xIn light of the recent news that the next U17 Joeys cohort will be touring Italy in April, I've decided to list a few players to keep an eye on for selection. Granted, I'm not 100% sure about the Australian/European based player ratio but I expect this to be a chance to nail down a lot of the European dual citizenship players whilst in Europe and get them amongst the system, something we haven't done and needed to in previous age-groups. This is a very exciting Joey's cohort with an eligibility of Jan 1st 2008 - Dec 31st 2010, though, it's unlikely we see any 2010 born players during this cycle. This tour will help establish a basis for the upcoming U17 Asian Cup qualifiers in October. This list only scratches the surface and lot's of talent yet to be discovered.
David Bolongi (2008) - Gold Coast Knights Israel Monga (2008) - Murray United Marcus Neill (2008) - Sunderland Noah Slunjski (2008) - Hajduk Split Danilo Treffiletti (2008) - AC Monza Gianluca Okon (2009) - Club Brugge Chris Irakoze (2009) - Adelaide United Amlani Tatu (2008) - Adelaide United Harrison Bond (2009) - RB Salzburg Younes Ibrahim (2008) - Brighton and Hove Albion
Quin MacNicol (2008) - Brisbane Roar William Millwood (2009) - Partizan Charlie Davidson (2009) - VVV-Venlo Noah Clement (2009) - Eintracht Frankfurt Good to see Chris Irakoze (2009) dominating the 2024 National Youth Championships for South Australia U15's. He is the top goal scorer in the comp with 10 goals. https://x.com/teopellizzeri/status/1814508318167343117 Another Burundian-Australian talent who you may see with the Joeys sometime this cycle, especially next year. Tatu-Irakoze-Irankunda Socceroos Burundian front 3 loading… 👀

Asthetically pleasing first half against vietnam
A couple of players can not just recieve the ball on thr half turn but can take a player on with their backs to goal
Again we missed 2 of our four big chances. The fourth would have been amazing, a player recieves the ball in the box with back to goal with 8 defenders in the box, he thrns around and beats two players on the turn and shoots just over

Curiously there are few players effective at taking players on facing goal though. This is a second team tho

Final score 6 -2
What a scoreline. The conceded goal was a 30 yard pile driver and a really generous pen imo

This is a second team tho It’s assuring that you mention this, we are now developing players that could play out of pressure either with their first touch or with a 1v1 action which usually has been a weakness in Australian players it seems the curriculum/academies stuff is paying dividends in creating this type of player. It should bode well for the future.

Lots less space between the lines, so if we won a contested ball our first touch could be to a teamate Players seem to be getting better at being effective with bad body position, but players who can take players on going forward with stepovers and lacroquettas seem to be missing from this group. Still it is a second string team that flogged a team we have historically struggled against

I’m curious how this team compares to the team that competed in South America.

Some nice goals, good to see some clinical finishing which is so often missing from our NTs in these tournaments.
Being an A-League squad, will be interesting to see which players will kick on next season for their respective clubs.

for baffling reasons myamar get a red card
thats the softest red I've ever seen haha
claiming they elbowed our player
they did, but very gently midway up their back
we've missed a few chances and look a bit complacent in this game

why is every east asian team amazing at shooting from distance
nearly conceded a screamer. But they get so much power and are always so accurate

Saturday we play the semi-final against Thailand while in the other semi it's Indonesia and Malaysia. Here's hoping the boys can go all the way and maximise their preparation for the AFC Championships and the FIFA U-19 World Cup.

Found one. Worst goal conceded ive seen
A simple slow backpass to the keeper and the keeper misses it. It rolls slowly into the goal

Goal keeper has gifted 2 goals this tournament. Not sure if it is the same goal keeper
Ball was travelling so slowly that the keeper might have had time to retrieve it but stood there deer in headlights

And it gets mysteriously overturned despite it being a really clear pen. Asian refs are super corrupt
Anyway gotta stay mentally strong

Starting to lose our head a bit. Our player pushes over a thai player for time wasting and gets silly yellow
One of those games where coaching will really matter. Need to get their heads straight at half time

Give away a silly yellow at half way
They are allowed to walk the free kick forward 15 meters to make it an attscking situation but nothing comes of it. Not many chances either side this half and no clear chances for thailand. In the end tho we gifted them a goal

Australia generate the first clear chance of the game early in the second half. But the striker fluffs a 1v1 with the keeper

Thailand are time wasting pretty much the moment they got the lead
Ref happy to stop play at each opportunity
