Nice drive into the box but we delay the shot a fraction too long and the chance goes

Currenrly 1 nil up Been a stalemate til now with australia effective getting the ball back instantly but lose the ball quickly when playing into solomon islands half
This looks like a third string squad looking at the team list. Must be trying to improve our depth

pretty poor to be honest, not a lot of sugar coating that. Conditions might be playing a role
the squad is pretty mitigating circumstances

really interesting how we are now doing a lot more youth football with a variety of squad quality
in the nsl era there was a lot of emphasis of bridging the gap for up coming youth to get them match ready. Youth squads were used to pressure clubs to play young players
maybe we are doing that again?

now losing 2-1
no obvious coaching issues as a team - we seem to have the right distances between the lines and opening passing lanes
just getting some basics wrong at an individual level. If a ball is underhit a player will just watch the ball rather than running to it which lets it get intercepted
if we get into the box after some clever 1-2 a player will just freeze in indecision
the goal we got was a technical finish though
This is a tour so curious if they improve or if any players are good enough for the u17 asian cup

I guess it depends on the point of the tournaments In the 90s they were used by les to accelerate young players to senior match readiness so they would get minutes earlier in their career and try and pressure clubs to sign or play young players on their fringes Would be nice if trevor morgan had a chat on a podcast or something to communicate the vision and give a summary

3 nil at half time
Doing a lot better at the physical side of the game against a u19 side. Harrassing players, stepping towards under hit passes, riding challenges, winning 2nd balls
This will be good prep to get early a league minutes which i hope is the point of these tournaments

I guess we are only selecting players born 2003/2004? Bernando is the best player I can see missing who has an acl injury. Archie goodwin is 2004 i believe too but got a zillion strikers

despite that being a 2nd string u21 side against their senior squad (albeit one missing kaltak) that equalled our biggest ever win against vanuatu. Last time we won 3-0 was at home in 2004 https://www.11v11.com/teams/australia/tab/opposingTeams/opposition/Vanuatu/goals were nice and some really nice skills from a lot of the players. Grimaldi, Taylor, priestman, matthews, some good talent there

His goal was a cracker but he was so ridiculously wasteful it’s not funny.

Yeah all over we were very wasteful There was one moment where vidic recieved the ball with his back to goal, turned and shot just wide that grabbed my eye tho
