as for nsl being bad
I wasn't there for it (couldn't watch it growing up!) and the crowds don't look flattering
but it did have a h&a national youth league, it did have more pathways, some teams had b teams, every club had underage teams, there was an ais coe and there was an admittedly ad hoc p&r system for about 16 years
I'm curious what happens to the national team if the a league always had 14 teams, all teams had junior teams, there was a h&a national youth league, the ais wasn't shut down, we have the b teams in the npl and we at least work towards a pyramid

+x+xStop taking over the threads with your fighting. It's the internet mate. It's just one big fight. Doesn't matter where you go, people are fighting. None of it is real though. Chances are that if you ran into anyone on this forum in a pub somewhere, you'd probably get along just fine, regardless of any disagreements you may have had on here. Scrolling is your friend. Just train yourself to scroll past anything you're not interested in. If you are walking along the footpath and you see a massive dog turd, you don't step in it, you avoid it. Sure you'd rather not see it all, but these things are easily avoidable. Plenty of good discussions happen on here in between the usual back and forth. Engage in the ones your interested in and scroll past the rest. Off season in this country is about as boring as it gets. These threads are bound to get filled will nonsense. I had thought this too. Definitely, the case in sports (cricket and football forums) and politics on the internet. Many are perplexed about the aggression and belligerence displayed by some. Some coaches and players in sport, Mitch Marsh, Brett Holman, Frank Farina as SFC coach, Ernie Merrick as MV coach for a period, David Zdrillic, and whoever coaches England, even their families, seem to have been hounded by supposed fans and members of the public. In the England football team coaches' tenures the media have often hammered them too! In politics female MPs and Councillors often cop excessive trolling on the internet. Then recently I've participated on two other forums which have been a pleasant surprise. One on weight training. Constructive exchanges take place between experienced and inexperienced WTERs, with the former passing on advice to the latter seeking it. Then another forum for book readers reviewing and sharing books that have been read. Some published authors interact with avid readers seamlessly as recounts and reviews of books occur. There is very polite and constructive discussion 99% of the time in both forums. It is very rare that they've ever been moderated. Whilst in the same cluster of forums, the cricket forum is moderated very regularly. The cricket forum is the antithesis of the others. There is so much animosity! I suppose it is expected in the competitive and gladiatorial world of politics that there is acrimony on forums. However, a few of us on this forum have discussed it off forum as to why sporting stakeholders incur such wrath and animosity? You are right about scrolling, Someguyjc. I look forward to reading the posts the vast majority on this forum. I just skip past a few others and mostly never read their posts anymore. Occasionally I revisit them, and there is the same belligerent and negative demeanour on show I'm usually happy to avoid reading. Occasionally, a revisit turns out some interesting content - which is a pleasant surprise!

Here's something to think about. In an alternate timeline, South Melbourne was successful in buying Melbourne Heart and you and Mono are both at Lakeside cheering on the same team. i do wonder what happens in that case. Do SM fans become a league fans and stop campaigning for a nst? They would probably say that would never happen, but since sm have been the one kicking up the biggest noise regarding an nst maybe south melbournes loss will eventually be australia's gain Speaking for myself no, I simply remain a South Melbourne fan... I would be as critical of the Aleague as I am of the NPL now and was of the NSL back in the day... Can't speak for the club as a whole or any other members but I would imagine a vast majority of the "noise" pushing for a full pyramid and NST would be silenced, at least from South fans, At least for a couple of seasons... I must say, the ONLY thing really enjoyable about the past 2 decades of state league dross has been the ever changing landscape of clubs we face during teh season... even the one dire season we had, where Hellas left it till the last round (and a win by Kingston) to secure us NOT getting relegated was thrilling... The relief felt was real, and brought a feeling of anticipation of the following season as a form of redemption I suppose.... The only reason why it feels like a drive for pro/rel and NST is mainly coming from South Melbourne is because we ARE the biggest fan base outside of the Aleague clubs.... We dont operate in a bubble though there is PLENTY of latent football support out there for the "old soccer" clubs still alive and kicking....
