Given the silence of both clubs on Woodcock, it may be that he is on trial at Sydney with his Perth contract having ended on 31 May.

Hope you are right Biscuit - Because as we have seen in the A-League, good back-up Lbs are in very short supply in Australia and we can consider young Riley Woodcock one of those! A young local talent too - a real shame to lose him. Clisby and O'Neill are one thing - players in an area where Glory are deeper and more readily replaceable, also having been at the club longer - but finding another young LB to replace Woodcock in the LB rotation is surely not easy, especially given Woodcock's relative experience for his age. The kid is going places including with the coming Olyroos generation, I'm sure. FFS Seems destined to just be another for Arnie to groom, like O'Neill. Arnie with Gersbach and Woodcock - two of the best young LBs in the country! It's just wrong! :x ](*,)

Time to come home Mr Jones? [-o<

http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/article/2015/06/10/aussie-jones-heads-premier-leagues-released-lists

Ideal time for the 33 going 34 (Next year) year-old to come back home to Perth and play for his local team in the A-League (A team who has just lost it's long-time star keeper)?!

Gee whizz, looked up for context and seems SST brings up some fair enough issues. Agreed about Ante Kovacevic - Did many of us even know that position existed, that he was still there?! My word such a position, 'Football Department Head' who 'negotiates the contracts'?! :o IF that is so, then HOW has his head not rolled already, due to the cap scandal?! ](*,)

SST (I know...) were tweeting that Kennys offered a 1 year deal to Alex Grant, 22 year old aussie defender who has just been released by Stoke. Hasn't played a whole lot of first team football so coming home could be a good move before having another go in Europe

Bit of talk about him when he moved from Pompey to Stoke a few years back:

Yes indeed....so, so far there's been talks of Ruka, Bulut, Mcdonald, Alex Grant....some of these need to be confirmed.

Also just putting two and two together here but I know Kenny was in England talking to a keeper, and Brad Jones just got released. I highly doubt he would use a foreign spot on a keeper so fingers crossed it is indeed Jones

Jones, Ruka and McDonald would go a hell of a long way.

I'm still shocked that we haven't confirmed the release of Keogh, Risdon, Thwaite, Nebo, Dino ect... Maybe we aren't losing as many players as first thought?

It's getting very late for releases.

Thwaite, Risdon and Dino are probably dependent upon o/s offers and the window has just opened. Nebo we just re-signed, would expect to keep him.

I reckon we will keep Keogh too. It would be a bit rich for him to cut and run after (allegedly) receiving half his salary through his wife during the past season.

West Brom interested in signing Australian goalkeeper Brad Jones after Liverpool release
Andrew Hendrie in Soccer 12 Jun 2015

West Bromwich Albion has emerged as a possible next EPL club for Australian goalkeeper Brad Jones after he was released by Liverpool.

West Brom manager Tony Pulis is understood to be keen on securing the services of Jones, meaning a switch home to the A-League for the 33-year-old will have to be put on hold.

American Boaz Myhill finished the season between the sticks for the Baggies as first-choice stopper Ben Foster was out with a cruciate ligament injury.

Jones made 23 appearances for Liverpool during his five years at Merseyside after joining the club from Middlesbrough for $4.5 million.

He was released late last month after under-fire Reds boss Brendan Rodgers had a change in heart about offering him a new deal.

West Brom - who released Socceroos defender Jason Davidson last month - have also been linked with a move for Australia and Crystal Palace captain Mile Jedinak.

Jones’ exit from Liverpool could possibly pave the way for fellow Australian goalkeeper Mat Ryan to join the EPL giants in the off-season from Club Brugge.

Yeap, seems so - Good news too. Not happy about Woodcock departing, but happy that Lowe signed up young Oxborrow and is now chasing this young lad, another product of this state. Would be immensely frustrating if the Mariners nabbed this West Aussie product from our clutches too! :x

This 21 year-old could be the perfect rotational compliment to the Thwaite-Djulbic combo - Whether Thwaite stays or goes, either way good to have this kind of young defensive talent, from this state, with all his overseas experience yet is hungry to impress at senior level. A good replacement for Clisby and O'Neill.

Glory leads chase to bring Aussie defender Grant to A-League

Perth Glory is favourite to snare young Australian defender Alex Grant who has been released by Stoke City

Perth Glory is aiming to bring young Australian defender Alex Grant back to his home state after a season on the books of English Premier League club Stoke City.
By David Lewis

13 Jun 2015 - 8:20 PM UPDATED 59 MINS AGO (SBS The World Game)

However, coach Kenny Lowe is facing competition from Central Coast Mariners and Adelaide United for the 21-yar-old centre-back who joined Mark Hughes's side as the final signing of former boss Tony Pulis - but did not make a first team appearance in 2014-2015.

A product of Perth's ECC Joondalup football factory, which produced the likes of Socceroos Rhys Williams and Chris Herd, Grant began a four-year adventure in England with Portsmouth, where he made one senior appearance in a League Cup tie.

There were loan spells at non-league Eastleigh and Havant and Waterlooville before before his departure of the Midlands.

He spent last season at Conference club Macclesfield Town on loan and news of his release by Stoke prompted Lowe into offering him a return ticket to his roots.

Perth, which has been hit by a raft of departures since its salary cap woes, remains the front-runner, though the Mariners have also jumped into the frame with a late bid.

Grant’s agent, UK-based Gary Williams, said: "He's a Perth boy and is keen to come home to play regular football and boost his chances of selection for the Olyroos.

"He's been involved with the Under-17s before and is determined to get noticed by the national team again.

"Perth was certainly the favourite but the Mariners have also come in and are quite serious. There's been some interest too from Adelaide, so we'll see where that all takes us."

Agreed except for McDonald. We don't need him. With Keogh, potentially Ruka, Nebo, Harold, Sidnei and other talents (Probably a new VISA in there somewhere too), it's getting back to the day old days of excess if Glory have the 'expensive' McDonald in there too. Keogh, Ruka, Harold, Nebo, Sidnei - that's goals enough and a near perfectly balanced rotation. All that's missing is a replacement for McLaren, when he finally leaves, but that can be provided for an up and coming local young talent coming through - same with the replacement for De Silva.

Alot more cap space may be free now, with some of the departures - but let's not get too ahead of ourselves, because as you have just said EG, Glory still (pleasingly) seem to be retaining a good number of players, including key position ones. And one of the sources of controversy, the Keogh deal - isn't going anyway, nor can it. Glory should be working hard to re-organise Keogh within the cap, if they haven't already now - given the departures. Same too sorting others. So with that, it may mean it's not quite the free for-all cap space that one might usually expect with such a clear-out?

Also, priorities - still VISA quality needed, to replace the likes of Griffiths and Jamieson. Those replacements won't be too cheap. Some good DM, break-up and link-up quality needed especially, to replace Griff.

From Facebook:

Announced that Macron deal extended for another two years and that Glory will have a new home strip this season.

Also a one off special strip of which there will only be 1000 made. I assume this will be to mark 20 year anniversary in 2016.

We're leaving our mass release VERY late.
Surely we're losing more players than we have?!

Also, Brad Jones has confirmed that he's staying in England. And reports today that we're close to signing Covic. Redmayne or Turnbull would have to be the alternatives as I'm fairly sure Coe is heading to Europe.

According to Pala's contract thread (which is pretty reliable), we only have 13 players on the books and that includes Maclaren and also Thurtell (who is only ever going to be the reserve keeper in the immediate future).

So at the moment we are 7 players (effectively 8 when Maclaren leaves) short of the minimum squad size. So hope we don't lose any more especially when you look at the dross that has been released from other clubs.

Just a few players. Griffiths, Vuka, Jamieson, Hersi, Woodcock...

I like what I've seen from Thurtell, but we'd be insane not to sign a more experienced keeper

No mass release, it has been a drip feed since Davies and O'Neill left (followed by Nichols, O'Brien, etc, etc). There is no one left for a mass release.

At this stage:

-----------------Thurtell
Risdon-Thwaite-Djulbic-Golec
---------Zadkovic--Diogo
Marinkovic------------------Sidnei
------------Keogh----Maclaren

Richard Garcia
Chris Harold

And we're still likely to lose (according to various rumours):
Maclaren
Risdon
Thwaite
Keogh

Currently both marquee slots are filled, so there miles of room under the cap, but both marquees are fairly underwhelming.

Good to see Glory's youth policy working with Covic possibly signing. #-o

Also, 8 players short of a minimum squad size and the FFA Cup starts about 8 weeks for the round of 32. :-k

The only way Sage can get himself out of this mess is spending up big to get players in, and we all know how good Glory are at managing player contracts and salary caps.

Glory to probably return to the bottom of the A-League once more.

On a brighter note, was quite happy to spend my hard earned to buy some tickets to see the Socceroos play Bangladesh in September.

Keogh is on more than Marinkovic so now we are going to play by the rules, he will become the overseas marquee. There has been no source at all for the gossip that Keogh is leaving, and to be honest, having been a major contributor (unknowingly or not) in getting us into this mess, he should hang around to try to fix it. Would be the only ex-Glory player I would give shit to when he came back to nib if he left for another A-League club.

Rumours that Thwaite is looking to go overseas, but realistically, couldn't see him getting offers from anything other than the weaker (ie Malaysia, Thailand, India) Asian leagues and with a young family and having been fucked over financially in Romania previously, I think he would be wary.

Good to see there has been nothing substantial about Risdon linked to any other clubs here or overseas..

The story in the West today also said that some players are starting training next week, with the others starting on 1 July. Training has generally been 9am in morning so depending on work, I might pop down and see who is there.

Yeah let us know who turns up.

Would make sense to put Keogh as Marquee, but Nebo under the cap on 300k seems a little bit much.

My concerns would by Risdon to Newcastle and Thwaite to Brisbane. Rumours that Risdon and Kenny don't get along, and obviously there was talk that Thwaite was one of the unhappy senior players.
