Current form on the pitch is great and all, but for me the real plus so far this season is that Sage hasn't said or done anything stupid and Filopoulos is seemingly running the club excellently. Don't want to jinx it, but if this keeps up for another season I might feel OK about giving them my money again.

Amen to that. [-o<

Filopoulos has been that air freshener to that toilet Glory was.

Agreed. Finally the club looks like its ready to be serious in the A League - and hopefully that feeling rubs off on all the free tickets that were there the other night for a very entertaining game.

I don't care how many more freebies they give away this year - keep doing it - keep up the positive vibe and hopefully you'll have 10000 paying customers round one next season.

The recent drive for local players I also hope is a serious step to towards mending fences with local football in the sense that many ex WA players have obviously not been given a fair go here and not just a West v Rest exercise - Glory at least appear to be making some steps towards rectifying their past mistakes. Even in the NSL days I felt they chased too many eastern states mercenaries so its a refreshing attitude and surprising that its taken so long.

Filopoulos was encouraged to apply for the job by the FFA so thanks to them as well.

^ I concur. :)

You guys brought this up before, this is just the link:

http://www.perthnow.com.au/sport/football/a-league/teams/perth/glory-signs-former-hungary-international-kristian-vadocz-but-has-eye-on-more-wa-talent/news-story/c0f1cd6284ebf31f09f1b95ff224aa59

Parochialism aside, Galloway (Contract 2017, need to secure an early/mutual release?) and Makarounas would be good recruits for our squad's needs. Full-back talent/depth and a rare natural LW talent/depth. Rostyn Griffiths' return would be unrealistic - he'll surely sign an extension after impressing with the 'Rodaroos'?! Though his current deal expires end of season. Securing Chris Herd within the cap would be nuts, but entirely possible and coincidently a perfect replacement for Griffiths and Zadko in that DM area? Some of us are hopeful for Brad Jones on a reasonable wage/end of career move too.

He wasn't mentioned in Davutovic's piece, but Nikita Ruka's contract with his Israeli side expires end of season and he could slot in easily to that LW position? Harold Castro Ruka, with Keogh infront - terrifying for opponents? High press, physical and lightning on the counter! Have a front two with Taggart with Herd/Vadocz screening solo for games on the front foot at home - highly attacking, highly entertaining? :-k

Thanks for that Scott, that was interesting to listen to. Interesting scheduling too, with their interview with Jesse Makarounas following on the same show. One wonders if they listened to each other's interviews. ;)

Garcia out for two weeks and Lowe said if they win without him he won't be rushed into the squad...he said it as a joke I think...but meant it. Lowe said Vadosc will get game time this weekend. Looking forward to seeing him play. Hungarian guy I know says he's good...'for Hungarian level'. Younger and more caps than Sandor so I'm expecting him to be better than him.

Even if we don't make the finals, if we can keep this decent run going it sets us up for next season and IMO is probably better than we deserved after last season.

I just hope Glory can fuck up some of the higher placed teams chances for the finals.

If they fall over the line into the finals then they should be on a roll and might be a PITA for other teams in the finals.

don't put this thought in Castro's head  . He's played around 300 La Liga games..

Probably end up winning the A-League by himself if we end up in finals. Hows that... from banned last season to winning the league next. Hilarious :o

One game against the Phoenix in Wellington could just undo the finals aspirations though

It's games like this (not vs Melbourne Victory) which is why the team is 8 points outside!

Destiny in our own hands really as we have Sydney twice, Newcastle twice CCM once all for a possible 15 points. Other games home to Brisbane and away to WSW are very difficult going on those teams form and home to Heart/City so even 2-3 points out of that what be great. Gives us 37+ points.

Sydney have us, wsw bris heart/city and victory, ( plus Wellington and CCM) very very slippery for them.

Especially with ACL thrown in the mix.

Keeping track of my previous prediction.

Starting on 19 points and the end of round 17.

Agreed guys. Glory have already closed the gap slightly with the win in Wellington, compared to other results this round.

Glory three wins on the trot, catch SFC in a rough patch, Roar a mixed bag, inconsistent at-present and only won by narrow margins in their previous meetings with a weaker Glory earlier this season. Their last two wins deceptive I feel as Victory and AU were good enough to expose their deficiencies, while SFC had their own and CCM still a developing side. By time they're hosting City, Glory could already be neck and neck on points with AU and SFC? :-k

It could be close.
Wins are obviously critical, but if not eventuating, so too will be ensuring draws at worst against those teams just above us.

Something tells me we're gelling more, it's still mathematically possible, our destiny is in our own hands, the boys are continuing to work ever so hard on the track and the results will come, but I think we'll just take it one week at a time.

I stand by my previous comments although slightly less concerned about getting Dino back with Lowry and Grant playing well.

I optimistically get us to 18. With us only needing a draw away to Sydney in the last round.

How well Krisztian Vadocz settles is pretty critical. Getting Dino back for the last couple of rounds could also be very important.

If Castro gets injured - we are fucked ie ignore everything above.

Seeing the importance of these fixtures also reinforces the puzzles of the fixturing gurus.
Obviously if you keep winning it would take everything else out of the equation.

But before NZ, 10 matches left, against only 7 of the 9 teams.
Completed our quota of Victory and Adelaide games already, while only playing some teams once in 17 rounds.
That makes it pretty hard to judge and compare, particularly without knowing what other teams may have more favourable situations in their fixtures in the last 10 rounds. For instance, Glory has 5 of the 10 against the current top 6 teams, while Adelaide has 7 of its 10 against the other top 5 teams.

Just winning each week would make it so much easier to follow.

My puzzling question is DO WE have a better line up / team NOW, than some of these A-League big boys.

If Taggart was able to play, the argument would be even better. MY CONJECTURE would be that we have better team than Sydney, Adelaide.

But perhaps maybe even WSW , Brisbane, Victory ? thoughts ..

If we are including Taggart it is a bit hard to say considering we couldnt really compare until next transfer season and season.

But nah. I think currently Brisbane and MV have a better FWD line while Adelaide, Sydney, BR and WSW have a better midfield.

Castro, Taggart and Keogh with our subs is exciting...but maybe another quality AM short to say we have a better midfield than the other clubs. Also too early to tell with DM.

Still...promising signs. Most positive vibes in the PG thread for a while...nice change from inside turmoil and bickering.

No, we depend too much on Castro. However we certainly have the good form at the right time. If the good form continues and the indifferent form of some of the teams ahead of us continues then we look a very good chance to make it

I don't know who has the toughest draw out of Adelaide, Sydney and the 2 Melbournes - but I think one of them is going to falter - and if we can do Sydney on their patch this weekend then they will be looking very shaky.
