The green business is a multi billion dollar industry and the scientists who sell this propaganda have made millions of dollars off of it. If you read around now, the high-profile "greenies" are all saying that man-made climate change is a myth. While the 'climatologists' - the ones who stand to lose their careers - are still areguing that it exists. Their extensively industry would go down the toilet overnight. The fact of the matter is, these chemicals etc aren't being created, they already existed in the environment, they're just existing in a new state. You're not changing anything. As for Tony Abbott, the Liberals are surely screwed now. I'd hate to think what would happen if he got in power. It would most certainly be worse than Bush. The man who's anti-abortion, pro-conscription, anti-union. The country would be fucked. Oh yeah...and he's a man of god... Good for him, but asking a voice in your head what the best thing to do is before you press the red button is NOT THE MAN YOU WANT RUNNING THE COUNTRY!

So what if he is Catholic afro, plenty of good leaders have been and still are. This is such a shit move by the Libs, I dont vote as I am 16 but I have connections to the party due to my family being members and my dad running for them, I have met a lot of these people and my dad has met all of the big guns and he is absolutely distraught by this, the party is fucked and why they are fighting amongst them selves ruining any chances of election Rudd will continue fucking the country up untill he leaves a huge mess to his successor

They weren't devout catholics though. Excuse me for thinking that the person running the country shouldn't have to ask their imaginary friend what to do before they make a decision!

JFK's religious ties didn't impact on his ability to make decisions in office. Abbott's policies and opinions are guided by the church.

Not all Catholics are anti abortion and sterotypicaly strict people my family isnt. So Abbot shares ome views that his church does that does not mean his thought process is governed by the church

Well I doubt he will still be leading come elction time and if he is he wont win anyway so it doesnt really matter does it? Ruddy is too popular for now and it will take people a while to realize he is no good

Pretty incredible fuckup by the Libs.
I have a number of moderate Liberal friends who have repeatedly said they'll vote Labor if Tony Abbott is opposition leader: here's their chance. All of them have been disconsolate today.
And to be honest, I'm pretty pissed with the Libs for fucking up a) any chance of being anything but an obstructionist, token opposition party and b) the best chance for a leader (in Turnbull) to progress the Liberal party into the 21st century, and take into account the views and priorities of a majority of their voter base. Tony Abbott is a 19th century choice for what is quickly regressing into a 19th century party.
This is not good news for Australian democracy: I want a functional opposition party. We've seen what happens when we don't have one in WorkChoices, Gunn's, etc...

Hey, it works for Labour :P
We're in a pretty good political climate to bring in a third party right now. Turmoil in the established parties. Easy to make a good impression on the voters.

If you could tap into those independant votes, you'd be made. People are largely voting for the independants because they don't want to vote for the two major political parties with their lunacy.

Abbott is electoral suicide, surely. Personally, no-one I've ever met likes him.
Almost choked on coffee yesterday when I read that Abbott was elected.

Christmas came early for Krudd
He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

Abbott won't last. Turnball is gone. So as Abbott makes an ass of himself in parliament, more and more of his supporters will turn to Hockey as the answer to their problems. Clearly the leadership spill was a tad too early for Hockey and he wasn't really ready mentally and with the necessary numbers. he will be leader in under two years.
I'm surprised the media got it all wrong!!

Hockey was loyal to Turnbull thats why he isnt leader now, he would never have cahllenged him but Abbot is another story, he owes no such loyalty to him
