Celtic rumours: McDonald out, Giroud in?
Celtic striker Scott McDonald has been linked with a £4million move to Wigan in January - although the fee may not be paid until the summer.

Wigan, who are currently 14th in the Premier League, attempted to sign the Australia international on the summer deadline day but were unsuccessful. McDonald has scored 12 goals so far this season (assuming his tally against St Mirren at the weekend is recorded as two) but has not been an ever-present.

According to the Evening Times, Wigan boss Roberto Martinez wants to sign McDonald on loan in January ahead of a permanent deal in the summer - which would make sense for the English side as they wouldn't be financially committed until they knew whether they had secured their Premier League status for another season.

However, unless the Celtic board are thinking of handing Tony Mowbray a sizeable transfer kitty, it's not unreasonable to assume a deal in January would be far more beneficial from the seller's viewpoint. Rumours suggest Mowbray is eyeing-up 23-year-old striker Olivier Giroud, who currently plays for Tours in the French second division, so perhaps the cash would be welcome.

While Scott McDonald has a fairly decent scoring record since joining from Motherwell for just £600,000 in the summer of 2007, it's not hard to imagine the sale being made in order to generate cash - the difference between £600,000 and £4,000,000 is hard to miss and would easily cover the £2million Giroud is estimated to be worth.

Skippy is still quite popular with Celtic fans isn't he? I'd like to think he was worth more than that figure tbh.

I'd say he's worth more than that to Celtic and the fans, but I don't if he's worth more than that to Mowbray. Would be a stupid move to let him go, but for some reason I can see Mowbray doing it.

Having a look at the Celtic forum, most fans seem particularly unappreciative of Macca and would gladly see him leave for £4million.

AZ were champions of the Dutch league and they are bottom of their group. Does that mean the Dutch League is 'very weak'? ](*,)

Um yes. It means their top teams cant compete with top teams from other leagues. Hence League is weak. Erdivisie = Bottom-mid table prem.

Nobody is saying the Dutch league is as good as the EPL or La Liga. But they're not weak. The dutch league is one of the 'best of the rest', along with Germany and the like.

You are comparing the Bundesliga to the Erdivisie? Are you on crack? Werder, Bayern and Schalke would easily rival the premier leagues top 6. (not as good as maybe Chelsea/Man u but the rest would get a run for their money). And thats not counting the overall strength of the bundesliga, there is not much of a gap between teams. its a very very strong league. And i wouldnt be surprised if it Pipped Serie A Soon. How the fuck can you even remotely compare the dutch league to the German is beyond me. Did you know Italy uses German league based players infront of teams ranked in their division? Do you even watch Bundesliga?

Erdivisie is junk im sorry to tell you (compared to bundesliga). Just look at holmans recent Goal. Completely unmarked and he ran 80 m to the goal. JOKE. Ajax, PSV, Twente, AZ are decent but nothing to sneeze at. Probably Mid table EPL if you compare conservatively (more realistically just below Mid table). Fener/galatasaray/ and a fair few French teams, like Mars, Bordeux and Lyon, Monaco, PSG are upper prem table.

1. La Liga/Premier League
2. Serie A
3. Bundesliga (very very close to Serie A)
4. Ligue 1 (france)
5. Turk Super Lig/Russian Premier League
6. Erdivisie / Greek League /Liga I (Romanian league)/ Belgian Jupiter League
7. The rest i dont give a fuck about. Few good teams here and there. Zurich, Basel, Apoel, etc

Ajax: UEFA Champions League winners (x4)

PSV: UEFA Champions League winners

Feyenoord: UEFA Champions League Winners

Yeah, sounds like a shit league. A German team has won the UCL 6 times. Same amount as Netherlands. Funny that

What does history have anything to do with modern day strength and success?

Phail with a ph. Learn how to make an argument. Erdivise simply doesnt have the spending power or coverage of the other major leagues that INCLUDES the Bundesliga.

PSV made the semi-finals in 2005. Hardly history.

The last time a German team made the semis was 2002.

There is a reason there is a UEFA coefficient and why the dutch league gets allocated only 2 champ spots. Nuff said.

How much of a tard are you to compare the Bundesliga to the erdivisie and try to make an argument out of it.

01 Premier League
02 La Liga
03 Serie A
04 Bundesliga
05 Ligue 1
06 Russian Premier League
07 Ukrainian Premier League
08 Eredivisie
09 Liga I
10 Portuguese Liga

I never said the Eredivisie was better. I just said that it was part of the best of the rest. Looking at this list, the 'rest' would be the Bundesliga, Ligue 1, Russian League, Ukrainian League, and the Eredivisie.

I dont give a fuck what you think avy. Im saying imno is a dumb ass for even remotely comparing the bundesliga to the erdivisie. If you dont like that then you can join him in the idiots corner who knows fuck all about football. Be my guest.

I dont just watch Premier league like you bandwagoner idiots. Erdivisie what a joke. One team in the group stages and they got steam rolled. just like the last 4 years. At least Bundesliga teams are able to compete with the best and maintain some sort of respectable score line.

You lost the moment you compared the bundesliga to the erdivisie. Or even remotely compared it.

Last time i checked 3 bundesliga teams were still in the race for the final 16 Where are the dutch teams. I dont even have to go back 2 years :). Bundesliga = Competitive. Erd = Junk and down and out.

Every year that goes on. The Dutch teams are getting less and less competetative. they have no financial muscle or good sponsorship.

K,

Last time i checked 3 bundesliga teams were still in the race for the final 16. Where are the dutch teams? I dont even have to go back 3 seasons. Bundesliga = Competitive. Erd = Junk and down and out and simply getting less and less competitive every year. And the German teams have MUCH harder groups than AZ (lol funny they have only 1 team there)

In fact AZ probably had the easiest group. with only Arsenal to compete with. Failed miserably. and they dominated the Dutch league last season. Bottom of the table in the easiest group.

Need i mention Werder and Hamburg in the semis and Finals of the Uefa cup last season. and Bayern Quarters of the CL?

I win. Bye, you can leave now. You lost.

You've already said that Seriously #-o

And since when has a team's performance in the Champions League decided how shit their league is?

And that last sentance is something I'd expect from a six year-old.

Ok, again, the Bundesliga is better than the Eredivisie. Nobody is debating that. But the Dutch league is obviously GOOD and COMPETITIVE, otherwise their wouldnt have been Dutch teams in the semis in the last 5 years. And they wouldnt be given two spots in the most prestigious club competition in the world if they were 'shit'.

Bundesliga = Very strong league (shown by their UEFA Ranking)

Eredivisie = Good league (Shown by their UEFA Ranking)
