Now I'm reminded of why I stopped playing Fifa 08. I can't shoot.

Big example. I played a few games tonight. I lost most of them (0-5, 2-1, 1-6, 4-2, 0-3, 1-2) but the 4-2 where I won just baffles me.

The other team (real madrid, I am usually man united) had their CB sent off for a last man foul + penalty scored, on TWO occasions I got through the last man, drew the keeper who had run out, passed it to tevez, I tap the shoot button, and he proceeds to blaze it over the open goal.

What the hell am I missing? Is there a "Don't fucking slam it like a dickhead" option?

Also, how do I bloody lob/chip the keeper.

Depends on which way the player is facing whent he pas is recieved and the shot is made aswell as how hard you hit the ball, also, finesse shots help.

In other news, the Beta for FM09 started testing on August 15th. It should be out in australia in late september/early october.

Try holidaying past this game, see if you can continue on after that. Might just be a slight flaw in the set up for that particular friendly.

Aw geeze. I haven't seen that problem since FM06. Just cancel the friendly and you should be able to continue without a problem.

Yeah, but sometimes that didn't work back in 06, you had to cancel the friendly and hope that the next match you had wasn't screwy too. Usually it wasn't.

Came within 30 seconds of winning the world cup with Sweden. 1-0 up, and then a 40 yard screamer from England's star striker sunk us. We were barely holding on, an extra 30 minutes was just too much. Still pleased though, was only expected to make it out of the group stages.

Of course it will be. The release date set in england is November 14th...so if EB are planning on releasing it on october 31st, they're jumping the gun anyway. Even with the delay last year, everywhere started selling the thing as soon as they got it, the demand for it has jumped that much over the last couple of years that it just flies out the door and they get sick of people (namely me) inquiring about it. That's gotta hurt. How many were you playing at the back to try and keep them out?? I usually play the WC final in real time if I make it. So I would have died if that had've happened to me.

Haha, we've been through my full defensive tactics before:p, about a page back. This guy just got a lucky shot off, thats what made it worse. If he'd managed to dodge past 3 of my defenders or something, sure, fair play, but this was just a last-resort, "maybe it will go in" shot.

Yeah, I know you do the standard deep defensive line etc. I'm just wondering if you throw players back when 1-0 up in injury time of a world cup final.

I use my usual defensive tactic, which is 5-3-1-1, with the MC backing into a DM when we don't have the ball. Works most of the time, like I said, they just got a luck shot off.

I've always wondered if anybody actually bothered employing a player in the sweeper position in FM. I always thought it was too defensive and was detracting from a player you could have up front aiding a potential counter attack. IRL it would probably be a little different, but within the confines of the computer game, are people in agreeance with this?

New FM looks absolutely wicked, and the new features on FIFA makes it look like it will be better than PES. Speaking of PES, I haven't heard anything about this years version yet. Does any one know anything

I'm disappointed the new FM isnt' going to have a new skin personally.
PES information usually comes out in mid September. So you're probably a week or two away from anything being said about it.

Fifa is way to slow. The players sprint slower than the PES players walk.

You can change the speed that the players move you know?

i dont know how anyone can say pes is better! They don't have the rights for half of the teams and the players have stuffed up names.

Actually, I've played PES08, the only teams they didn't have license for was most of the EPL sides. But it was easy enough to re-name them in the editor, just buy looking at the players in the squad, who all had their proper names.

See above. Sure the logo's are different, but if that's what you're worried about, well, sucks to be you. However, I'll be going back to Fifa this time, some of issues in game in PES really put me off.

I thought you could inly rename the players and not the clubs??
There's commentary in PES too isn't there?? So if you rename players, the commentary wont' work anymore.
