Glad he wasnt picked.... He has been great for the game and the socceroos in the past. However no one can say over the last year he has played well enough to be on the plane... You seem to be suggesting others were picked on form.? Carle?

If you made two teams from this list (20 outfield + 3 keepers) no-one could really argue that this is pretty much how we will line up…
Schwarzer
Wilkshire Neil Moore Chipperfield
Grella Culina
Emerton Bresciano Cahill Kewell
Then I guess you need cover for every position so Pim will probably pick lets say
2nd team
Federici Williams Milligan North Carney Valeri Jedinak Vidosic Holman Rukavytsya Kennedy
+ Galekovic or Jones as the third keeper (2nd 3rd whatever its not important right now)
Doing it this way would leave these omissions
Lowry Beachamp Garcia Holland Carle Mcdonald Jones (that’s only 7 not 8…im confused…anyways…)
Will take Mcdonald at the expense of Valeri or Jedinak as we have other players that can cover DM ie. Wilkshire, Williams etc…

For the sheer hell of it, can someone compile two lists for me please: 1) guys who played in WC qualifiers but have NOT been picked today (Sterjovski, Coyne come to mind) 2) guys who DID NOT play in WC qualifiers (or only some)but HAVE been picked today?
My guess is that neither Bosnar, nor Ognenovski, nor Griffiths, are in either of the above categories, which probably explains a lot.

Out of the 31 the 8 that should miss out are-
Brad Jones, Jade North, Shane Lowry, Carl Valeri, Richard Garcia, Dario Vidisic, James Holland and Brett Holman.

He stated Galekovic is cover if any of the other three are injured.

Several duds in the squad, BUT, we all knew that and depth aint, nor ever has been our strong suit.
Viduka would be at the same level of fitness as Moore.. PV is on crack
Moore proved himself at the start of WCQ, at the end id say he was slowly losing his spot but did enough at the start to keep himself there, its really my only explanation. Spira – not enough game time, Og – never picked in a squad so unproven at this level, Colismo – Id love to see him there but Korean bungle screwed him up and to be fair when he got his chance albeit 1 from memory didnt do enough to impress, Bosnar – same as the Og reason. People who think Pim is going to choose someone he hasnt done so before are quite deluded. Hell if I was in his position I wouldnt and couldnt unless for extreme circumstances. Fortunately our injury crisis isnt that bad.

Of those I think Vidosic should be a certainty, and it would be a tricky decision between Carle and Oar. Totally different players really. agree with you on vidosic. Could probably separate those 4 into vido vs carle and holman vs oar due to similar playing styles. I can see vidosic and holman making the team on that logic. Vidosic far more potential then carle and has youth on his side. Holman has been in the team the whole campaign and can't see him missing out. On different topic I'm keen to see a few young players taken along for the experience. Lowry, vidosic (if misses out), oar and langerak would benefit from the experience and are no doubt gonna be playing a part in the socceroo's for a while yet.

Beauchamp Bresciano Cahill Carle Carney Chipperfield Culina Vidosic Valeri Ruka Schwarzer Oar North Moore Milligan McDonald Lowry Kewell Kennedy Jones Jedinak Holman Holland Grella Garcia Galekovic - standby Emerton Federici Williams Wilkshire Neill To be culled: Oar Galekovic North Holland Beauchamp Garcia Lowry Out of the 2 most controversal players I think both Holman and Carle will be kept. Holman for workman nuisance value and Carle for his X factor. Actually I think playing them both could be very interesting........8-[

MGA it's pim, could you ever see him playing both carle and holman, let alone playing car for an extended period of time...

replace Carle with Lowry and you have my thoughts. Oar was a bit surprising to though I think having young dudes is a good thing.

He stated Galekovic is cover if any of the other three are injured. Was a small part of what I was saying... I think that the starting line up picks itself but the cover for a fe positions isnt really as bad as I guess I feared(apart from the defence of course). Only Williams out of the defensive line cover doesnt scare me. carney not too bad though has to tug at a few shirts when caught too far forward...

Beauchamp is OK by me, but I have a problem with Brad Jones in goal.

I reckon the starting 11 is far from settled given the questions around form and fitness of a number of players. The following battles should make for interesting training:
- Moore V's Beauchamp/Milligan for CB - Wilkshire V's Carney/Lowry for LB - Emerton V's Williams for RB - Culina V's Jedinak for DM - Kewell V's Oar/Carle for LM - Bresciano V's Chipperfield/Vidosic for RM - Kennedy V's McDonald/Rukavytsya for CF

Shame really, Carle with tricks to a play the ball to Holman who usually gets into good positions (pitty about his touch or shooting though...) I'd still like to see what happens. :-k

None of this Carle has flair, Holman has a horrible touch shit I want real evidence proving Carle is better than Holman. On the evidence of the last 12 months I'd leave them both out. You would leave out a guy who is playing at one of the top 1 leagues in the world who got an assist and ran play for his team against Arsenal :?

im not that dissapointed. Beside Brosque, Sasha and Bosnar, I would not have much different. I dont like Moore, too old, too slow. Dont like Holman, well, I'm preaching to the choir. Richard Garcia is a bit of a nothing player, all due respect. However, like Guus did 4 years ago, he's taking members for the next generation which is terrific. They wont play, even though i think they pretty much all should. Holland would be better than Garcia. Milligan for sure. Vidosic makes my 23. Ruka has pace. These blokes should make it. Its very weird, this squad tells us Aust football is right on the cusp of transition. We needed youth now and thankfully Pim has given a parting gift even if we bundle out in group. Must say finally, today was a little awkward. Outside these boys, there really isn't much to choose from. Its not as important as the June 1 announcement. I'm much more worried about which 7 players will be culled. Its obvious the Oar's and Holland's will be the extras outside the 23. Anyway, pretty much the best we've got. It'll be a squad based on hard work and toilers. We'll need somethin special from Timmy, Harry or Bresc to do anything. We'll all be watching. cannot wait for Germany

I did find "Socceroos WC squad LUVE" to be ammusing.
No realy surprises in the squad apart from Carle and Beauchamp. Bit of a slap in the face to Bosnar though, including Beauchamp ahead of him.

The way hes been slaging the a-leauge its shows he's nothing more than a hypocrite - unless he thinks playing against Asian teams is a worse standard Edited by UnitedGal: 11/5/2010 09:48:14 PM
