I'm genuinely shocked at no DRM on Ps4. I was positive that they would both do exactly the same thing.

Please don't say it's because of Call of Duty 12 :-s I don't like either, but Xbox will never have games like Uncharted or Last of Us. -PB

Funny watching Americans complain about having to pay $499 more than us Aussies having to pay $599  Most were hoping for it to be $399. Have to say though, the price for me may be the difference between getting Xbone or PS4 Edited by sydneycroatia58: 11/6/2013 10:19:34 AM I doubt there is going to be too much difference, and I certainly dont see the PS4 being cheaper. For me Xbox has the better exclusives so its xbox for me. Will probably pick up the PS4 when it's a bit older, like I did with the PS3. How do you know this, Sony hasn't even done their press conference yet . And? Xbox One will have Halo and Gears of War, therefore Xbox>PS4 Oh lawd. The only reason I got a 360 was because of these two games.

Please don't say its because they're all the same, because then I genuinely worry that you're coming from a Video Game 'hipster' point of view, as opposed to someone who genuinely believes this stuff.

@Paulbagz For reference:
Uncharted: 07,09,11 Halo: 07,09,10,12 GOW: 06,08,11,13
Developmental cycles eerily similar, yet GOW and Halo are just cash cows?

PS4 to require annual subscription fee, as you need PS+ to play online.
IIRC Playstaion+ is more expensive than 12 months of xbox live.

Sony destroyed Microsoft. Was extremely satisfying to watch.
It's a bummer about having to pay for online now but PS+ is such an amazing service that I'm more than happy to pay for it.

60 Bucks a year is about the same/little more than Xbox Live I think. But david's right, Playstation+ offers so much more than XboxLive, it's definitely got more value to it.

Xbox One... The new Sega 32X...
Actually that shames the 32X too much. How about Xbox One, the new Atari Jaguar

IIRC Playstaion+ is more expensive than 12 months of xbox live. "Require" Probably not the best term to use. You don't have to pay anything, and you can still play all your games.

I'm not actually sure about Xbox Live Gold pricing. PS Plus is $69.95 a year. From what I can find retailers stock 12 month cards for Xbox Live at $89.95.
I'm sure there's cheaper ways for it though, surely people don't pay that much for Xbox Live Gold.

Will PS+ keep the instant game collection? If so, I'd be more than happy to get PS Plus. I'd pay that price for no DRM on its own.

Required to access the full content of your games, happy now? And 12 months of XBL is $40, so a $20 difference. And from experience, Xbox Servers> Playstation. The playsation does look a more attractive proposition though, still getting both

Honestly for what you get with PS+ $60 is an absolute steal and mucu better value than XBL Gold

I can go to Ozgameshop right now and buy a 12 Month XBL subscription for 48 bucks. The new PS+ will be 5 A month, so 60 for a year. That's assuming that you can't get it cheaper elsewhere, like you can with XBL.

The PS4 online subscription shouldn't worry their fanbase, considering the majority of them play exclusively offline because of the big bad DRM right?

Keen to see Microsoft's reply.
Rumours circulating at the moment that the Xbox One will change to disc authorisation (ie no online only), and if there's no disc, it will change to the online DRM system.
Sound's like a smart move.

Worth considering: Third console syndrome? The major players in the home console market all seemed to have failed or stumbled in their third outing:
NES - SNES - N64 (trounced commercially, despite some excellent games, for refusing to innovate)
SMS - SMD - SAT (Questionable hardware decisions and poor software licensing negotiations, trounced commercially and effectively took SEGA out of the console market)
PS1 - PS2 - PS3 (Pricing issues, lost traction. Not a commercial failure but was outdone by the 360)
XBX - 360 - XBO (Severe consumer backlash towards announced features, fate TBD...)
Sony will be looking to outdo the performance of the historical players with their fourth console though, we know how the GC and DC went...

It certainly isn't a positive, but it's still 10x better than DRM. Either way, I don't have to pay for Plus to buy used games or lend them to a mate. I've borrowed dozens of games that I didn't connect to the internet on PS3. That won't happen with Xbox.
