Stop being so Jaded. If we let the NSL continue Everything would have fallen apart. Most clubs were averaging less than 5000 to games, there was zero TV Coverage of the Sport, It was so heavily labelled as ethnic anyone who might be interested was put off.

Clubs created Like Northern Spirit and Paramatta Power to attempt to engage the non ethnic groups not already catered for were failing regardless of how successful they were and Newcaslte had already defulted on 4 teams over their 40-50 year history, Clubs with History such as Blacktown couldn't afford to compete at the highest level even though they were backed by West Ham.

It took a Billionaire to save Australian Football, Get it on to TV, create teams that weren't drenched in the history of a particular immigrant base and allowed an openess of support from anyone from that region, centralised the whole system so that it could be supported through its teething years and create something that Australia can be proud of.

The A-League isn't Plastic for the reason that Active Support is their, that you can sit on your moral high horse and look down at the league, that you all hate it so much but wish to be apart of it.
It has lifted the level of Australian football higher than it ever was, is bringing in quality players to Marquee positions, has all the coaching staff at a world class level of certification, attracts even in this low we are currently in double the ammount of fans that attended NSL matches and is bringing world class teams to Australia to play against our A-League Clubs.

The only thing that is plastic about the league are the seats we sit in. Tell me could your community club servive with yearly bills of $2,500,000 with its 1000 supporters?

where did i ever state in my arguement that the NSL was better? or good, sure it had its problems, but it was never given a fair chance by the "aussies" or the media, you and i both know that...and yes we were left out in the cold...but thats not my arguement here, i just cannot stand football fans after 2005, that jump shit from club to club, and not call themselves plastic, when they clearly are...Victory fans jumped to heart because they dont like merrick as a coach? so a coach is higher then a club is it? FFS!.

Yes Billionaries are pumping money into the league, its better structured, more exposure etc, but slowly the novelty is wearing off, alot of the bandwagoners jumped off after the misserable AFC tournament, now a poor showing at the WC, how long till you give the Frnachise teams until they go under?

lets face it, football in this country will always be semi-pro.

Firstly the NSL was given plenty of chances, it was just destroyed by its own governing body who were only interested in their own self interests.

Secondly You need to throw a whole heap of United, Olympic, Strikers, Marconi, South Melbourne, Melbourne Knights and who ever else I'm missing from the NSL days. those of you with clubs still playing state league all gave up and walked away from the club in the same way the so called plastics do. Crowds of around 5000 to crowds of under 1000 means there are around 4000 plastics at those clubs.

You can't have it both ways. Personally I think your real issue is with the handfull of Melbourne and Sydney fans who are going from one to another. This is not all fans and definently not those here who stand by their club.
As for 2005 and onward fans let ssay there was 15000 people who can to a club of that 15000 6000 are mad football fans meaning there are 9000 people who are casual supporters of the game. this doesn't make them plastic it just means they're only interested in the sport not made sick fanatics like yourself and I.

I can only feel sorry for you since you are so obviously educationally stunted and hope that eventually you will be able to get a better job than as a domestic cleaner, but that may be a step to far for you.

Why are you getting aggressive, swearing and extremely rude?

If you saw what I said in an earlier post, i said the only other clubs we don't put in this category is Adelaide United and Brisbane Roar.

I was very annoyed at the time - there is a lesson in this, don't post when angry.

I would like to extend to you my sincerest appologies Minimalistix, I do think that you are wrong about your view of the HAL clubs but will not argue about it or take an agressive stance with you again. I would post a hand of friendship smilie but their isn't one on site.

I don't see it as being plastic no.

Everything starts from nothing including Sydney Olympic, United, Marconi, Hellas and Knights.

If you don't want to support it thats fine but to look down on those of us who want to follow the top level of football in this country and support these new clubs is kind of sad.

Yes it's not perfect, yes there are problem and yes the NSL clubs did get the short end of the stick but what is in the past is in the past and if you embrace the fact that we are a vital part of the growth of the game in this country and that we are just as passionate as you are old and new football will come together as friends a lot quicker.

firstly do not compare my club to your franchise...

how you can call any HAL team a club is beyond me, your franchise started because of a mutli millionaire, the teams came from thin air, and here you go australian public support the new HAL soccer clubs, because they are top flight, show your colours for your state etc...FFS its still got the plastic cover around it. You and like much of the new dawn HAL supporters are the type of people if for whatever reason your franchise folded or got relegated, you'd jump ship to the next team thats in the top flight. (take victory fans for example, some jumped over to the heart because of there colour jerseys are better FFS)...

As for clubs like United, Marconi, Olympic thats a different story...talking about united here, people made the stadium for what it is today with there own money, spent hours of dedication...thats love and passion for a club... The differnce is we dont have a multi million dollar stadium as our home ground, we dont share our stadium with other codes lol for that 12k that king tom can fit, is what you call a traditional club...

your plastic, your in it for the hype, no love, no passion, would fall over too another club, if your belovered a-league team was relegated or folded..

ask yourself this, would you support your aleague club if it was in the state league? no, didnt think so...

"new football supporters" (whatever that means) couldn't support the "old" clubs because we weren't welcome cos we were anglo/not from the clubs ethnic background. What choice did we have? don't be blind to change. You support your club (as you should) and we'll support ours.

so your telling me there was no anglo saxon team to support?

you just choose not to support them...

footballing fans since 2005.

Yes you're right there were no anglo clubs for me to support in my community, in the NSL anyway. 1. I was from regional SA. 2. Adelaide had a greek and an italian club. I did not have any links with them. Even went to a few games and felt like a total outcast (easy to do when you're the only anglo of 300 people in the stadium). So when Adelaide Utd was "created" I was so damn excited. Finally a club that represented me, as in a club that was not defined by race or mother country. A team that represented the community of SA in the sport that I loved. What part of that is plastic?

well then you would have to put Neewcastle in to the same grouping as they are essentially the same club they were during the NSL just with a name upgrade not unlike all the NSL teams got when they first tried to make the league inclusive; As Con was given the licence for the Newcastle team as he was already funding the Newcastle United team in the NSL after he took over from the Breakers when they colapsed and you have to give it to Perth as well as the team has always been their team from its community foundings to its inclussion in the A-League.

I could even argue that Sydney FC fits in with the crazy conspiracy theory you lot like to throw around with SFC being Hakoa, but thats a whole other can of worms.

Yep, you also gave no reason for a HAL club to be called plastic either. Still waiting since pretty much the only argument you guys have is that your clubs have been around longer than ours. You still also haven't told me why the J-League and K-League and CSL & MLS aren't plastic. Also why aren't the EPL clubs plastic, the only reason they exist is to stroke the ego of their owners.

read my post again you fukn spastic, and answer my question ...

As with EPL clubs, you have to go back to who founded the club, what era etc...obviously today bilionaries run the show, and football is modernised, clubs are in debt, hell even some need the governing body to help them out, LOL...
EPL clubs werent formed in 2005 by a billionaire, and boom hear is a new club, support this, dont worry about the old, now were they? ...you guys remind me of a little kid, buying a new toy, novelty wears off after a while until you find a new toy... im talking about plastic fans, you all are.

Since Manchester United was formed by 4 business men after the failure of a community club they must be a plastic club with plastic supporters too?

You know nothing about how I support my club yet feel that you have the right to insult me, and it. I do not insult you for supporting your club, why should I? I do not insult anyone for supporting their club. Yet you get in my face about it and accuse me of being some brainless young kid blinded by the freshness of the latest gadget ready to cast it aside as soon as the next thing comes along.

I truely hope your shit really doesn't stink as your head is inserted so far up your anus that you can only be consuming of a diet of your own excretia.

how do you support something that was pucked from thin air, do tell me how you'd have love and passion for that franchise? you guys are the same bunch of people that will turn there backs on the club when things turn sour, so if your aleague club was relegated or folded, what next? or should i say who next? lol...

There is no denying that, but surely you can see how those supporting these outfits are trying to build a community around the club.

Surely I have been baited.

You are as blind as you are Naive. A corrupt and useless sports governing body and league were pulled down and replaced with a slightly better functioning body, the governing body took a sport that was so drawn on ethnic lines (or at least percieved to be) that it could not function as a seperate entity from those ethnic conections and new teams were elected to embody specific areas.
The idea was to have rich white guys backing the teams to give it credability in the media and amoungst those that would further fund the clubs through sponsorship and support in kind. Has it worked i don't know but I do know that history takes time to make. Many people were drawn to the league through its sharpe advertising and new direction that it was taking, moving it away from those ethnic lines letting many people take a chance for the first time on Football.
A-League is only plastic to jaded old club supporters because they failed to do what the A-league did.

Move on it has been 5 years since it began. Clubs are formed in many different ways, it just so happens that in Australia they are better formed by billionaires than by communities, because communities often Can't be F***ed.

@Guest FC United of Manchester are a Community club.
