More accurate to look at league, Roy had a shit ton of piss easy Euro ties in the early stages (Rabotnicki, etc)
Kenny got 37 pts from his first 20 league games, Roy got only 25.

All Bellamy haters need to watch this game to see the kind of thing he WILL bring to the team.
Great to see Stevie on the park too. Don't get too excited. It was against a championship defence FFS. Perspective, son. The important things to take out of the game were Stevie and Martin's returns. Love ya Luis. Taking this with a pinch of salt. Fernando Torres said the same kind of shit back when he joined us about how much he loved Liverpool and how important the club was to him as well. I can't put much stock in these kind of comments these days and it's a big part of the reason why I'm disillusioned with the sport at the moment. One day you've got players saying they love the club, the next day they're playing for a major rival (Torres, Mascherano, Meireles, Alonso, etc. Though I don't hold it against the latter 2 as much as the former 2).

Carroll to silence the critics with 2 goals and 1 from Suarez. 3-1 win. Is Steve gonna' get any game time today...?

Stevie will be on the bench. He'll probably only play the last 10. KD will be anticipating them trying to kick lumps out of us and won't want to risk Gerrard too much.

And he said after the cup game we're not going to be silly and rush him back.
Wonder if Bellamy will be rewarded for his superb performance with a start here. And if Adam/Henderson will both get back into the team.

I don't think either warrant places with the way they've been playing of late. But there aren't a lot of options until Gerrard is fit. I'd be concerned if 1 decent performance against a championship side was enough to earn Bellamy a start ahead of Suarez, Kuyt and Carroll up front.

The Reds team in full is: Reina, Kelly, Enrique, Carragher, Skrtel, Downing, Henderson, Lucas, Adam, Carroll, Suarez. Subs: Doni, Gerrard, Bellamy, Coates, Flanagan, Kuyt, Spearing.
Cool.

Well...
Not a vintage display... first half was slow to start, but got a bit fortunate with the goals. Henderson didn't pop up often but when he did he looked very good.
Carroll and Suarez were fantastic together, towards the end they both tired a bit but there were some very promising signs.
Adam should go out when Stevie comes back in... He tries the hollywood ball far too often.
Downing and Enrique were superb.
Skrtel and Carragher as a partnership don't convince me. Kelly was good, Lucas was boss.
Important to get the 3 points, but we need to improve for the next few games.
Great to see Stevie on, he looked sheer class when he was on. That, and the Carroll+Suarez partnership were the best things from this game.

Summed it up about right imno - once opportunities were created it seemed we tried to do more with the ball instead of someone just take the shot ! loved seeing SG back on.

Really impressed by Carroll and Suarez, looks like a great partnership. Still don't know why Kenny played Henderson, he's not a wide player. Should have played Bellamy instead

I really don't understand all this criticism of Henderson. He has fantastic movement, good crossing ability, and does all the simple things well.
He completed 91% of passes, every single one in the attacking third too.
He WAS a little bit quiet, but it's to be expected when on the left you have Enrique bombing forward and Downing, and on the other side it's just Kelly. Who was good, don't get me wrong, but he isn't a wingback.
When Johnson comes back and starts marauding down that wing, it will be more helpful for him.

That may be true, but when we attack down the wings a lot and he's only getting half a dozen douches a half, that's not that great. It doesn't help him that Kelly's playing pretty deep at the moment and trying to get his match fitness back. I was quite happy with the performances of Gerrard and Kelly again. My bigger concern from last night was Carroll's missed chances. Hitting the bar twice and that bungle in the last 30 seconds with the goal at his mercy was really disappointing. Still, 3 points is 3 points and we need to keep the points ticking over.

Still, 3 points is 3 points and we need to keep the points ticking over. I agree partly with your comment highlighted in bold...he should be netting them more than not imo, those 3chances above in future games that win or draws the game once converted. Also we were under pressure that whole 2nd half due to not converting - you could see how pissed off Suarez was being subbed for he knew it could have gone either way that second half and he the most likely to get the 3rd we really needed to make it more comfortable. As said 3points is the real result but to be near the top at the end of the season we need at least 2 of the boys up front to get into high double figures season end. SG maybe just what we need to settle the attacking midfield I feel, his experience, running off the ball, great long pass's and importantly a classic SG strike from out the box will lift our attack. Can't wait till he settles back in and plays 70+mins.

Lazy, that's Henderson's problem. Keeps letting his mark go wandering off, gives up when it's in his power to chase and tackle (cough, Modric, cough). Like Adam, he's poor defensively, but unlike Adam, he's very lazy and seems to want to cruise by on his Action Man hairdo. 91% pass completion is misleading when you consider that he only had 31 touches in total - the only players who walked onto that pitch with fewer touches than Henderson were Kuyt and Gerard. Jarvis ran fucking rings around Henderson. Not impressed. Fuck it, he's been tested now, so he needs to sit on the bench for a few until he respects the shirt. Anyway, speaking of respecting the fucking shirt, what the fuck was up with Carroll? Trying to use fancy feet in the box and fucking up. I can forgive the header, because bouncing the ball off your head isn't an exact science, but I can't forgive the numerous mistakes and looking like he's just dropped out of a mare's fanny. Reminds me of Crouch, only less eager to PUT THE FUCKING BALL IN THE BACK OF THE NET. 35m for the Andy Carroll comedy show. Where's the fucking Benny Hill music?

hehe Dizzy,I'm tyring not to see it the way entirely as you post re Carroll but I sure am close to it. I'm trying to keep the faith that he soon looks far more comfortable in front and doesn't hestitate with the trigger and converts. I laugh about the Crouch comment after he finally put in a decent header over the weekend for yes he should have been putting them away far more back with us and during his spurs time. I don't think they are settled at all as yet and this close passing near the box isn't his style and as you said he look awkward many times, naturally using his height cross's are the go but I reckon he should hang back behind Suarez for a back pass or anything that he can run onto to release the trigger - close 1 2's around the box he stumbles to date !

Bit harsh on the big lad. Aside from that poor miss at the end, you have to admit he had a very good game.
I see what you mean about Hendo, and it's baffling, because he has a fantastic engine and covers the ground very well when he does get on his bike.
I wouldn't start him in the derby though - bring in Kuyt for Hendo on the right, but I'd keep the rest the same.
MAYBE Spearing in for Adam, because Adam defensively is about as useful as a beachball.

imno - thanks for 5.40 highlights so I could make sure of my comments after watching the game. Overall yes a fair game - unlucky with a few headers which lets face it should be his strongest asset. His passing was crisp and apart from the poor miss at the end he had that shocker attempt earlier on his wrong foot...but Damn it proved Kenny sees our higher % scoring chances are with Suarez but playing Carroll deeper as it showed turns him into a distributer more than what I thought he should be doing getting in position for a shot for that clip just showed the entire 90mins he had 2 lame attempts with his feet, not good for his confidence imo. A striker needs to hit the net, hopefully with SG coming back in the midfield and take over in the centre with distribution will free Carroll up to play higher on the park for I can't wait for this guy to get on a roll and score quite a few. Kuyt needs to be in starting line up for derby - never lets us down !

RedKat wrote:Surely we can't take the risk of Carroll in the merseyside derby? Yes his game against wolves was his best of the season (albiet still not even slightly happy with his performances yet) but with the kuyt/suarez partnership being our best at the moment, surely kuyt has to be restored to the starting line-up and we can put carroll on with 20 or so left. I agree Kuyt should come in - but for Hendo, not Carroll. Quote:A fit Gerrard (not sure if we will have this luxury so soon) has to start in place of Adam who tends to fade in and out of games at the moment Carroll Downing - Suarez - Hendo Lucas - Gerrard The way I see it when he comes back - With Gerrard pushing up and turning it into a 4-1-4-1 when we're on top and in attack. Suarez, Downing, Gerrard linking up..... droooool. RE: Adam - He certainly is fading in and out. I also read today that he's committed the second highest fouls this season. Defensively he is pretty rubbish, so I wouldn't mind seeing wee Jay in there instead v the bitters.

The other option is to play Kuyt up top and have Bellers on the right, which could work.
But I personally don't want to see Carroll dropped. Everton's back 4 would be pummeled by him I reckon.

Reminds me of Crouch, only less eager to PUT THE FUCKING BALL IN THE BACK OF THE NET. 35m for the Andy Carroll comedy show. Where's the fucking Benny Hill music? All england's right wingers are prone to lazyness. Henderson, Lennon and Milner all have bouts of it on a regular basis where you're left wondering "Why the fuck aren't you doing something, son?!" We're still struggling defensively in the midfield with no really solid back-up to Lucas if he goes down injured or if we need to pull the midfield back a bit to protect a result. We can't rely on Spearing to give us that defensive know-how and Adam, HEnderson et al aren't going to cut it. I agree that Hendo's one for the future, but I'm not sure what we're meant to do with him right NOW. He isn't performing to the standard that you'd expect of him given his performances for Sunderland last season, and he won't reach that level again if he's not playing regularly, but he's not making the grade. It's a catch 22. As for Carroll, hopefully he improves and shoots a little more instinctively over the next few weeks, I know that's what KD will be saying to him at training ("we want you to shoot first time more"), but the important thing is that he's getting in the right positions. He's just looking to pass too often when he should be looking to shoot. I'm reminded of Bill Shankly: "If you’re in the penalty area and aren’t quite sure what to do with the ball, stick it in the net and we’ll discuss your options afterwards!"He'll get there. He just needs a little more time to get back into the swing of things. I was frustrated with what I saw, but not overly disappointed knowing that a little more match fitness and he'll be back scoring again.

MAYBE Spearing in for Adam, because Adam defensively is about as useful as a beachball. I think my biggest problem with Carroll isn't that game, it's just overall, i.e., he's not scoring when he has, can and should. And that yes, he's covering a lot of ground, but he's not actually doing anything with it. Paula Radcliffe covers a lot of ground, but I wouldn't pay 35m quid for her. Adam won't be replaced. Not unless Gerrard plays. He'll just be playing ahead of holding mids, doing what he was bought to do, which is deliver accurate passes, take punts when he's got space and muscle people out of the attacking third. Cahill out is nice. Well done Vincent Kompany. Badly timed tackle, but lovely timing. I don't think anyone else in the blue shite can actually head a ball. The bad news is, of course, that Everton's latest little bridge-bred wonder, Barkley, might be playing for them. Oh, someone would love to score her first goal against us, wouldn't she. Carroll in, Kuyt on the right for Henderson.
