Vermaelen had a very poor half against Spurs. Can't see Arsenal dominating in midfield like they did against us.

Benelsmore its not righting him off completely on my part it's picking the players who most likely will do the job and to date till Carroll muscles his way into the box and actually scores a few I'll gain confidence in him but to date this is yet to happen. Imno he played steadily those few games before the cup final nodding off the ball here and there but highlights are few IMO whilst Bellers can come on and have the opposition second guessing every time the ball is at his feet and Dirk is Mr Dependable as we all know. As for Downing - yer he sure put it on against Cardiff and I expect he to carry on be it against stronger defense will be great to see how he goes and sure i expect he to get round Sanga a few times :d This game can go either way and one thing is for sure our defense won't disappear ala spurs but having LS with Bellers we will be far more potent up front \:d/ Eh BB - settle mate ok

To be weary of him, when in actual fact there's not much to be scared off. Sure he may be big, but if I was a CB I wouldn't be worried about being out-muscled, I wouldn't worry about being outpaced and the way he's been taking, or not taking, chances I wouldn't worry to much about him. He's an average striker, simple as that. Had a good half season at Newcastle and has done pretty much nothing since, and has done absolutely zero to prove he is worth 35m.

'be wary of him' has been what people have been saying since he joined the club. And he's done dick all. Every single game he looks lost and off the pace. Every. Single. Game. How can a guy who's 6'4" way just 76kg? And how can he be a threat when he gets pushed off the ball by a defender exhaling? If he scored once in a while you'd have a valid point, but he doesn't. imno, I haven't missed a game this season. So you can shove your 'you've got no idea what you're on about' speech you know where.

Seriously Downing has had 27 shit games in a row and finally had a descent game in the final and suddenly he's a definite starter. The Cardiff game was probably Andy's only poor game this month yet your saying he should be dropped. Thats a tad harsh

Edited by parle_ku: 29/2/2012 11:59:41 PM Thank fucking god for some sense! As you say, he has been MOTM multiple times this month, honestly, the fickleness of some supporters makes me want to cry.

Against Wolves he played ok, but if a performance against a championship side like Brighton is the yardstick for Carroll's career then we may as well all pack our bags and go the fuck home. So at the end of the day he's had ONE good performance against Wolves, over a month ago. This would maaaaaaaaaaaaybe be acceptable...if he was a free transfer. But he's not...we paid THIRTY FIVE MILLION FUCKING POUNDS for him!

Perhaps that's why he's not up to scratch, every Liverpool fan on the planet ripping shreds into him.
Even i've noticed that he's been playing much better recently, he's making better runs and working in with the team a lot better.

Edited by parle_ku: 29/2/2012 11:59:41 PM I never quoted that Downing is a definate starter so don't know where your coming from. 27 in a row ? Thats a tad harsh as well. Sure like Andy and put in Adam all 3 haven't settled in as well as all had hoped but Downing has been the better of the 3 imo. Andys form has been getting better the last month I don't deny this but its step by step and just frustrates for now at this critical stage of the season we need him ON and being more forceful in the box area and convert - heck we are struggling getting goals as it is. MOTM multiple times the last month - fuck your kidding.

Even i've noticed that he's been playing much better recently, he's making better runs and working in with the team a lot better. He still looks lost. When I see him at a corner standing there flat footed after the first header from the kick, I'm annoyed. MOVE YOU OAF! When I see him standing still on the edge of the penalty area as Suarez or Downing puts in a cross across the 6 yard box, I'm annoyed. When I see him completely miss a through-ball from Gerrard because he's facing the wrong way, I'm annoyed. And this happens a dozen times a game. I wouldn't mind if you could justify his lack of performance with a lack of match time, but he's played more minutes than Bellamy, Kuyt, Maxi and Gerrard this season. He's played 1439 minutes and scored just 3 goals...that's a goal every 479 minutes...or every 5.3 games. Now, there's only SO FAR you can defend a THIRTY FIVE million pound investment in a striker with a scoring record like that.

Have to agree with Afro on this 100%.
I am all for backing your players and rightly so. However, I can't think of a less dangerous striker in the league at the moment. If it was one or two things lacking, you could understand but it has been a year and there are many problems to his game that just don't look like ever being solved.
Putting the price tag to the side, I think the fans are forced to try and back him because he is the number 9. Liverpool want an England and Liverpool legend leading the line and are hopeful that it will happen, no problems at all with their dreams but in reality it won't happen.
When you are playing bad as a striker, the least you can do is make it uncomfortable for defenders, he doesn't even look like trying to do that.
Again, I am not saying don't back him, if he was at Old Trafford, I would most likely be doing the same but take it from someone looking from the outside in with no Liverpool glasses, the guy is woeful and will never deliver what Liverpool needs.

Adam has been the best of the 3, but his positioning in the middle is woeful and the movement of the Arsenal midfield will kill him.
I just hope we put Skrtel on RVP and not Carra.
Either way, I personally think Andy is deserving of a start. And, without trying to sound like Figgy, I don't really give a shit what other clubs fans think of our players. Because I'd put money on them not watching our games regularly. You can't build opinions based on highlights.

You obviously haven't watched enough of Robin, impossible to expect just one player to take care of him, and any team who goes out and designates one player to mark him will get torn apart by his movement. He will be up against both CB's at different times. Edited by sydneycroatia58: 1/3/2012 07:29:27 PM

Yeah but I mean, he generally plays on the left hand side at the front doesn't he? Like, he tends to naturally drift out to the left. And when he opens it up to use his left foot on goal, he'd be moving across our backline to our right. In which case I'd prefer Skrtel to be DCR.
Anyway, he'll be a handful no matter who we play.
Stevie may have been injured for England which is a shame.
Can see Rosicky causing us issues. We have to make sure we try to keep on the ball and dictate tempo. Lucas is vital for games like this :(
I'm confident in Jose being able to take Theo, but if you play Oxlade or Gervinho against GJ we could have issues.
I'd like to see us go hard out, Bellers, Downing, Suarez, Carroll as a front four.

He plays all over the place, it's ridiculous. Although he is more likely to come out to our right, your left, to collect the ball so he can cut in and shoot. Also allows Theo to move into the middle.

I reckon I could handle Walcott That's what Assou Ekotto thought last week, and what Ashley Cole thought both a couple of months ago and last season. Also what Barca thought 2 seasons ago. People mock him, but on his day he tears even the best left backs a new one. And even when he has a bad day, like the first half against Sp*rs, the work he does off the ball was phenomenal.

I have watched quite a few Arsenal games this season and I think it is fair to say they are the only game he has played well in (Spurs and Chelsea) that I have watched. So I would say his 'day' doesn't really come around too often. Edited by sleel6: 1/3/2012 08:43:02 PM
