If I was Hughes or Warner I would've been running off as soon as Brownlie's wicket fell.

Question: Are Hughes and Warner still opening?

Question: Are Australia '2 fa' yet?

Can't see any updates at work, and my computer is struggling to keep baggygreen open. I did however see that we elected to bowl, What are the conditions like?

It's tea, no play yet. They will be opening. Can't really differentiate the pitch from the rest of the square, completely green.

EDIT: also this:
3.15pm An update from our man at the ground, Brydon Coverdale: The rain seems to have stopped, though the covers are still on. The rope is heading around the outfield to try to help the drainage. And the lights are on, so light may become an issue as well.

3.05pm local time It's raining in Hobart, folks. Not heavily but the covers are on, bad news.

Sounds like to bowlers will be getting some good value. I'd get behind Khawaja & Ponting for some runs - don't really see Hughes, Warner or Clarke doing much in conditions like this.

There was one strike of lighting as well, the umpires will be cautious of that for the rest of the day now.

Was probably gonna walk down tomorrow or on Sunday, but now if Australia go and make a big total I might give it a miss.

Well yes, I would definitely prefer a different option. Warner has not got the quality to be a test opener.

Why do you think that. Have to remember he is a much different and much much better player than the one who broke onto the 20/20 scene.

Yeah, I still don't see him as a tight, technical player and a partnership with hughes leaves us too vulnerable. I think I got too used to watching Watson open, so my expectations are a bit high.

I mean he doesn't have a lot of first class experience, but what he has done so far has been mighty impressive. 12 matches, 975 runs at 57.35. 3 50s and 3 100's with a top score of 211.

The other thing you get with Warner is a fucking outstanding fielder.

Put it this way, once Watto is fit I'd much rather see him opening with Warner over Hughes.

To be honest, I agree with Warner > Hughes. Hughes showed more promise when he emerged into the test side, but he is just way too vulnerable outside off stump.

Another criticism I have of Warner is the mentality, I can't really see him batting for three sessions and making a big 100. In fairness this is unproven, so we'll wait and see what he brings in the future.

Tribute at the SCG planned for Roebuck

Liz Hannan
December 9, 2011

A TRIBUTE to the late Fairfax columnist and ABC commentator Peter Roebuck will be held in the Members Pavilion of the Sydney Cricket Ground on December 22.

The chief ABC cricket commentator Jim Maxwell will address the gathering, which is an initiative of the cricket media corps and will be open to the public.

''We felt we needed to do this. There are a lot of people whose lives were touched by Peter who would wish to go along,'' Maxwell said after arriving in Tasmania yesterday for today's second Test against New Zealand.

''We are all living with his death and it is not much fun. I struggle with it every day.''

Roebuck's trademark straw hat will be passed around to raise money for the 42 young African men he was supporting at the time of his death. Sixteen of them live in the house he established in Pietermaritzburg, near Durban.

''As I understand it, their money will run out in December,'' said Darshak Mehta, an organiser of the tribute and the chairman of the LBW Trust for disadvantaged students, of which Roebuck was a founding director.

''We are all determined to keep them going for the next three to six months and perhaps then the Roebuck family can take over.''

Roebuck, 55, died after falling from the sixth floor window of his hotel room in Cape Town, South Africa, on November 12. Two policemen had been in his room questioning him about a sexual assault allegation made by a 26-year-old Zimbabwean man.

His elderly mother and five siblings have retained a British barrister to ''find the truth'' about his death.

Looking through the rules, it seems there must be a margin of of at least 200 runs to enforce a follow on.....
