Nah, I know so. We pumped em pre-season, and beating Port Adelaide isn't anything special.

Port aren't going to make the finals, it's not exactly panic stations just yet. But it doesn't look good for Brisbane when they're in second last and the team in last has a game on them.

Being last on the table doesn't look good? Holy shit, I'll call the newspapers.

Of course this season isn't going to look good for us, but as I've posted before, I'll happily take it if it means getting experience into our kids, because there's a lot of talent in our list.

Last, Second last. Same shit. Either way, my point is the same.

Haha, I doubt it. Just because your club is a failure doesn't mean other clubs will be following the same path. Everyone at the club knows we're working towards the future, and that there are many kids on our list who are massively important to that future. The only reason we'll lost any is because of GWS.

I think Melbourne and perennial underachievers from the last couple of seasons should feel hard done by with the recent drafts, losing a lot of promising players to CGS. GWS are going to do the same thing over the next couple of years and teams who finish mid-table are going to be better off than those who finish lower down for the most part IMO. And sure, brisbane can 'work towards the future'. But to help with the development of certain players sometimes there will have to be sacrifices, trading certain players for experience, etc.

Not really. Because that's what's happening right now. Our youngsters are learning from experienced players like Brown, Black, Power, Staker, McGrath, Buchanan, etc. We've done our trading to get experienced players in. So in 2/3 seasons, we'll have a list full of players who will have played 50-100 games, learnt from some of the best of their generation, and have all the skills they'll need to be leading AFL stars.

Guys like Black and Power only really have 2-3 years left in them, I think you'll find at least a couple of promising players traded in order to bring in experienced players. Largely to get some solid leadership, etc. at the club. Sides like Richmond, Geelong and North Melbourne have all spent longer than they should have in the wilderness because of problems with this.

Is anyone else watching the Carlton game? Fucking 6 goals 12. Ridiculously shit kicking.

We won't need to. Because by the time Black and Power have retired (Say 2 seasons, though I think Black at the least will go at the end of this one), Guys like Adcock, Patfull, Merrett, Staker, they'll all be 150+ gamers. Drummond, Raines, Clark, Rich, will all be around the 100 game mark. Them, along with Brown will be our experienced leaders.

Except instead of spending 5/6 seasons near the bottom, we're only going to be spending 1/2. I'd rate the skills of our youngsters a hell of a lot higher than what Richmond has as well. we're going through the same process that all clubs go through. I think we've traded well for it, made sure we'll have a balanced list in a season or so, and should come through it a hell of a lot better than Richmond/Melbourne have.

I'm using 2/3 seasons as a general term, and what I meant by that is that in 2/3 season we'll be at this list's peak, pushing for top 4, top 8 at least. I think we'll be competitive enough to be pushing for 10-7th by next season.

That's a tough call depending on where they finish this season, whether or not Voss keeps his job, whether or not Black calls it quits at the end of the season, etc.

I don't think you're going to see a seismic shift at the club in the next three seasons. I think this list HAS peaked. There's a lot of makeweights and not a lot of x-factor at the club.

Voss will keep his job. The club has full faith in him, everyone at the club knows we're in for the long haul, and they'll stand by him.

This list has peaked already? Half the list haven't even played more than 50 games. Nearly two thirds are 25 or under. All bar 5 players are 28 or under. We're still growing. And yeah we're lacking a little X-Factor now, but hell, Polec and Beams have already shown they have the skill set for AFL level. When they've got 40-50 games under their belts, they'll be unstoppable.

2 players out of the 30 odd that a club use in a season aren't enough. See Grand + Harvey at North Melbourne or Judd + Walker at Carlton for years. I think it's going to be a long-term project like Molthouse at Collingwood rather than a short term project like Williams at Port Adelaide.

2 that I named off the top of my head, that were just examples of how talented our extremely young guys are.. Guys like Rich, Rockliff, Redden, Banfield, Bewick have all shown moments of magic. We'll pick up further talented youngsters in the draft this season. Those blokes, ontop of a solid experienced list will be the basis for a very good side.

Haha you're right. Daniel Rich who was only the 2nd player to be unanimously voted Rising Star in 2009, and finished in the top 10 of the Clubs Best and Fairest in 2010 hasn't impressed much at all.

All of those players (Bar Bewick) have been nominated as Rising Stars. All of those blokes were impressive in what was a poor season last season. Just because you don't know much about them doesn't mean they aren't good.

Yeah, GWS will get most picks. But we still managed to pick up Polec, Bewick and Beams from this draft. Not to mention we picked up a lot of mid range picks which we're saving for this Draft.

Give the footy fans their say

Mark Stevens From: Herald Sun April 23, 2011

THE Anti Football League may not make headlines as it did 20 years ago, but a small group of volunteers are still manning an official website.

If a group of footy outcasts can maintain the rage, why isn't there a lobby group of passionate AFL fans?

Players and coaches have never had a stronger voice through their own associations, but how about the rank-and-file in the outer?

The AFL Fans' Association has a nice ring to it, and maybe it is time supporters Australia-wide banded together with a common goal.

A small slice of every membership sold could go to the AFLFA, with a chief executive with strong connections becoming the voice of the people on all issues.

The AFL, which has always said the game is owned by the fans, could help fund it.

In the ultimate salute to the fan in the terraces, the chief executive or president of the AFLFA could even be offered a spot on the AFL Commission.

"Joffa" should not be the spokesman (the overexposed man in the gold jacket should never be quoted again).

It has to be someone with serious credentials.

And just for a moment, imagine that person heading into AFL House with a list of demands to negotiate a collective bargaining agreement for fans.

We have the best sporting product in the land, but the list of potential improvements to the "fan experience" would be lengthy. Here's a start:

OPEN the MCG for more kick-to-kick after the siren. It is a regular feature at the Gabba, even on the much talked-about soggy turf on Thursday night. It was a great look. Why can't we see it at the home of footy?

WE know the fixture is tough, but please schedule at least 18 Saturday afternoon games at the MCG. Is there anything better than the buzz in the pubs and side streets of Richmond before a big game in the traditional time slot?

LET'S have a boutique suburban stadium for games involving Greater Western Sydney, Gold Coast, Fremantle and Co in Melbourne. We liked Princes Park. We really did.

CLOSE the roof at Etihad Stadium for all games. The glare on sunny days is no good for anyone.

WHY should a few hoons be allowed to spoil it for everyone? You can get full-strength white wine at all games, why not full-strength beer? It's discriminatory. Trust us.

GIVE us something to look at before the bounce. A decent panel show on the big screen, maybe? How about some interviews with players on the fringes. If they can do it in the radio boxes, why not on the ground?

MORE stats and breaking news on the big screen during games. What's wrong with an injury update from a roving reporter?

FIND a way to add more spark to the moment the players enter the field for battle. There are too many other people on the ground. It dilutes the moment. Dare we say it, the teams' banner writers need to spice it up a bit too.

FORCE all TV channels to be consistent with timing. Tell Channel 10 to scrap the mysterious "red time" and count it down. Imagine the NBA having a clock counting down for some games and not others? Madness. We deserve to see all the information available.

MIX it up on Anzac Day. It's OK if you're an Essendon or Collingwood fan, but no good for the rest. For example I'm looking forward more to Geelong v Hawthorn than Collingwood v Essendon this round. Rotate the combatants in the season opener, too. Everyone outside of the Carlton and Richmond clubs is over their Thursday night games.

PLEASE AFL, tweet us the substitutes as soon as they become available - 90 minutes before the game.

WIDEN the variety of food. It's stuck in the 1980s. The prices are steep, but the choices are more of a problem.

FINALLY, please show the footy LIVE on telly.
