AFL fans call for stricter policy on glass at the grounds after spectator hit in the head with a beer bottle
FOOTY fans are calling for a stricter policy on allowing glass at grounds following Geelong's home game on Saturday, when a beer bottle hit a spectator on the back of the head.
Damian Fletcher, 23, was left bloodied by a Crown Lager bottle thrown from an open-air corporate box after the final siren at Simonds Stadium.
Fans have gone online demanding the club ban the culprit for life, and voiced a perceived double standard because glass is allowed in corporate boxes.
"This scares me every week knowing that there are people overhead with glass bottles," Emily Kate Cox posted. "I don't think they should be allowed to serve drinks in glass bottles."
Cats media manager Kevin Diggerson said the club was still investigating, but discussions would include both its glass policy and any penalties.
"Most venues do have glass in those corporate areas, it is something that has become standard for the most part of Australian venues," he said.
"I'm not saying it's the best or the right way, but it's something that's become the way and something we would need discussions about to find the best outcome in response to that."
Mr Fletcher, who yesterday said he was feeling a bit "sore and sorry", received an apology from Cats chief executive Brian Cook. "I got a personal phone call from Mr Cook, which I really appreciated," the Bannockburn resident said.
A Grovedale man, 28, spent four hours in police custody on Saturday night and was issued with infringement notices for being drunk in a public place and discharging a missile.

Everything else is already served in plastic cups. There hasn't been an incident in 10 years, and now they want to take away one of the few luxuries afforded to the corporate boxes by taking away the real, un-watered-down beer?

That is probably why they will win, when no one expects them to and everyone expects Richmond to win.

Last night was a horrible night to be out. Windy and cold. Not surprised that the crowd wasn't at capacity. They should be pretty damn happy with that really.

Rd 15 attendances up to last night:

Carl vs Coll: 78,224
GWS vs WB: 7,132
North vs Rich: 45,966
Bris vs GCS: 27,170
Gee vs Haw: 85,197
ADel vs WCE: 26,426

With 3 games to go today, incredibly the AFL is only 97,859 short of the all time attendance record for a round of footy..

Games to come today:
Melb vs syd
Freo vs St K
Ess vs Port

Those 3 games only need to stick to an average of 32,620 to bet the record.

It will be touch and go.

A possible scenario:

Melb vs Syd: 24k
Freo vs St K: 36k
Ess vs Port: 37k

The highest attendance in one round in the history of VFL/AFL.

Incredibly, there are a few disappointing crowds in there, but overall, it's a decent result.

You'd expect to get that attendance number, there's an extra game per round this season. Bumping up the crowd numbers doesn't make things harder.
