Making the season last longer. When you can't add substance, add length. There's a penis joke in there somewhere.

i lol'd ... but honestly making the season longer does what ? i love my footy but its the same thing every year don't see how it benefits much ....

It benefits TV ratings. Prime time games on Friday night, Saturday night and Sunday night over the weekend followed by Thurs, Fri, Sat. night prime time next weekend.

this , plus the afl want to take on the nrl , some afl fans think this will kill off league in gc and ws:lol:

It's tv driven. Ch7 paid 1b for this. Split the opening round, show maximum games, double advertising potential.

Forward line is second rate, against a half decent backline we are going to struggle scoring. Young Joe is still a year or two off being the kinda player we need up front. Another thing that will cost us in the long run is our inability to consistently put pressure on the opposition's forwards, we had countless air swings last night. That being said our run and carry is top notch and our ball disposals are right up there. Hope the Bombers can make a fist of it this year. Will be a pass mark next week if we get within four goals of the Hawks.

North were absolutely flacid. They still haven't sorted out that forward line and there's nobody making plays down back. 5 seasons on and Josh Gibson still hasn't been replaced, and I'm wondering if Daw will ever live up to all the hype and perform more to the level of his flashes of brilliance, or if he'll be another Daniel Wells.

The players would do well to be reminded that they're probably playing for Brad Scott's job this season.

If they don't make the 8 after signing Dal Santo, Brad Scott gets the sack.

Should have kept Ratten. At least then when they were shit they were shit with intent, now they're just lost. Gotta feel for Carlton - first Pagan and now Malthouse both fail to help them.

North were better this week. Good ticker to come back from 28 down or whatever it was. Starting to find some chemistry.

Sydney are absolutely hopeless in the wet, their style of play doesn't work at all in those conditions. This year Longmire seems either too slow-witted or too stubborn to make necessary changes both pre-game and during the game.

Their old ground-and-pound style under Roos was hard to beat in the wet. I haven't watched a lot of Sydney recently so I can't comment overly but I didn't think Longmire had reinvented the wheel that much at the Swans. Inaccurate kicking definitely cost them at certain points when they could have kept it a lot closer. Going into the final quarter I was thinking "oh here we go, another classic North Melbourne capitulation".

Hopefully the Roos can back it up again next week against Collingwood (they should) because then they've got a pretty tough run. Aside from a Bye and the Lions (which on their current form could be as good as a bye) two trips to Perth, The Cats and The Suns coming up. Not easy.

Yeah Swans loved the wet under Roos, the way they play has actually changed a fair bit from those days. Now they like to back themselves to absorb pressure, work the ball around in their defensive half and draw most of the players into that half of the ground, then go for a quick, counter-attacking break. I think it will actually really suit Franklin but when it's wet it's really not effective and Longmire seems intent on sticking with it

I'm always wary of playing North but I think we should win this one tbh.
Our midfield is really starting to play some good football, Pendles is as classy as ever, but now Beams is getting back to his pre injury All Australian form and Caff is really starting to become one of the elite run with players in the competition, plus Swanny showed signs of improvement on Friday too. If our forward line can finally step up and capitalize on our midfield brilliance we should take this one imo.

Moving the ball quickly isn't an option when you're in wet conditions. I can see what he's thinking, the amount of time Franklin spends in double-coverage is huge and drawing more opposition players into the midfield/their attacking half is going to leave Franklin with more space and more opportunities to get one on one. If Goodes wasn't 74 and gallivanting around the pitch on a zimmer frame you could probably use him to take some heat off Franklin but you've got to work with what you've got I guess. Hopefully the big deal they gave to Franklin leaves them hamstrung and they're unable to give him much tall support up front over the next couple of seasons.

I think both sides will fancy their chances to an extent. Neither is playing their best football just yet but Dal Santo had a good game this weekend, Cunnington played a blinder for us, we've got Jack Ziebell back. If we can get someone to take some of the attention off Petrie (Looking at you, Daw) we're looking good considering that we're still without Andrew Swallow.
