So if anyone boos an opposition player its racially motivated? Its just really dumb he comes out in the media complaining about people booing him, and then does that at opposition fans

People don't boo him for being black. That's his shit excuse to the world because he's a prick but it's just easier to get sympathy because of the colour of his skin.

Yeah as some one who regularly goes to games that's just not true. Some people booed him, and that was 100% ok, then he called someone out for racism in the crowd, then the insular Victorian AFL masses started booing him as a collective for the 12 months since. Hardly a coincidence that it happened at the same time.

It's 100% ok to boo him for being a shit player or bloke, which some people do, but the majority just do it because he called them out for what they are.

But it's all he can do. He's asked them to stop, they keep going, so he gives some back.

In that case it's pretty unacceptable. Can't expect too much from Victorians though ;)

Absolutely.

He can play the race card all he wants but for 99% of us his race is irrelevant, the fact he's just about the biggest flog walking the earth and he's a really dirty player is all that matters. This narrative about people turning on him after that Collingwood game is absolute nonsense, if anything the sympathy he milked from that changed his image in a positive way, people have always hated Goodes because he's a dirty player and he carries on like an absolute wanker.

There were plenty of Aboriginal's in tonights game, just as there are many great aboriginal players throughout the league, where are their boo's?

Can you elaborate on this?

As someone with only a passing interest in AFL Goodes seems like a top bloke (Indigenous role model, White Ribbon ambassador, Australian of the Year, not covered in shitty tattoos, can actually construct a sentence, etc.)

Gotta disagree mate. Sure some booed him before last years incident and plenty didn't like him, but literally every time he's played in Victoria since its been thousands and thousands jumping on. Nothing else changed except for that one incident.

I'm the last person to claim racism when it's not called for, but there's an undeniable, very vocal minority of Victorian AFL fans who don't like the fact they were called out on the issue, and have let him know about it every game since.

To be fair to Carlton fans Goodes has said it had nothing to do with anything from the crowd tonight, or anything to do with racism. Was representing during indigenous round.

I really don't like Goodes for his on field actions and persona but that doesn't take anything away from the great work he does off the field and he does deserve all the recognition he gets for that.

However Goodes has been one of the most hated players in the competition for years due to his tendency to dive, sook and his love of milking free kicks. The biggest thing that puts me off him is how he's the first one to cry foul when he's not happy with his treatment and then he's unanimously backed in the media as a "champion" but the fact is he is one of the biggest sniper's in the game. Plus his tendency to slide in recklessly for challenges necessitated rule changes to prevent this move as it's highly risky to the safety of opposition players, he still does it frequently however and is never called on it, because he's a "champion".

Then there's the way he can carry on, constantly whinging to refs, coming off the bench and pumping a goal into row z from five meters out when his team's up by 50+ points and celebrating like he's just kicked the GF match winner. Plus he'll regularly ignore the better runs of team mates in order to get the goal himself and can be a very selfish player at times.

Don't get me wrong, Goodes has done some terrific things for the Aboriginal people and his off field work is highly commendable, however on field he is widely regarded as one of the biggest flogs in the game. Sydney fans and elements of the media love Goodes' and can't quite comprehend why the rest of us hate him so much so the racism card is used a lot, the reality is just he is a thoroughly unlikeable bloke on the field and when he's not one of your own it's very easy to hate him.

I can see your point mate but I don't think it's so much a reflection of a racist sentiment amongst crowds, he's always been hated as a sook and I think the way the media attention on him increased tenfold after that incident just riled up people who dislike his tendency to whinge, even if he did have a right this time. It might sound like a cop out but you have to understand just how utterly unlikeable he is in the eyes of opposition supporters. Unfortunately though there will always be a minority who villify someone for their race but in the eyes of the majority Goodes' skin colour is irrelevant IMO.

I don't know if anyone here ever browses BigFooty but there have been hate threads dedicated to Goodes since the mid to late 2000's, fans just don't like some of the cheap stuff he does and the way he conducts himself.

I agree with most of that. I get why people don't like him and boo him, but some of the stuff I've heard from, admittedly a minority, in the stands the last 12 months has been pretty awful stuff. I think the place he cops it worst is on social media though. Some of the shit he cops would be enough to break anyone. I actually feel bad for the Pies in this as well. It always comes back to the 'Collingwood incident', even though it was only a couple of fans and Eddie that made a dick out of themselves. I've heard much worse from rival Melbourne clubs tbh.

Back to the footy, it's a really interesting few games today. Must win for GWS imo. These are the type of games that ended up costing the Suns last year. I think the Demons and Crows are both a chance for upset wins. Top it all off with Fletcher's 400th and it should be a great day of footy.

We arent Carlton shit though. As much as I love hirdy he has become a big distraction.

We were diabolical but we have a real habbit of starting slow this season, we did it against Geelong and Adelaide too and managed to cut back their leads a fair bit in the second half but the game was too far gone before we managed it. That's what has me so optimistic about what our young list can do, the effort and commitment to the gameplan from our lads can't be faulted and this is something Buckley's been trying to make happen since he first arrived.

Steele Sidebottom is on the cusp of becoming a genuine A grader IMO, his back half of 2014 was superb and in the three games he's played this season he has absolutely dominated. He's got all the tools to become elite, he's one of the hardest runners in the comp, is equally comfortable and reliable on either foot, he knows how to find the footy and he's very dangerous around goals. Plus throughout his junior career and his finals appearances with Collingwood he's proven himself to be a player who thrives on the big stage.

Well in Chris Judd=d> Absolutely one of the best midfielders the games ever seen.
