And how did Cherry Evans get Clive Churchil? Would have thought Maolney Maloney played dirty.

And how did Cherry Evans get Clive Churchil? Would have thought Maolney Cherry Evans played a pretty good game. Set up so many chances. $1m NZD to get rid of SBW? The NRL would just about pay that themselves!

It's crazy to think of how many good halfbacks QLD have had in the last 10 years.
Alfie, Thurston, Prince, Cronk and DCE.

Great win by the boys. Can't believe people questioning Pearces game, he's our general and blues fans need to accept that barring injury or massive drops in form that they will be the halves again. SBW, he brings a lot of the shit he gets on himself I guess but the reality is he's a great guy and a once in a generation player. If he goes we will certainly welcome him back in 2016. Trent Robinson, what a man...too much love right now

As long as Pearce is halfback for NSW we can forget about winning a series.
As for SBW, it's not 'if' he goes it's when he goes, and I don't think we'll see him come back.

He just steered the best team in the comp to a premiership...he'll be the half back. Just finished watching the replay, he was outstanding last night. Seasons like this make a player, and he stood up at the biggest stage last night.
I have no problem if they change the rules regarding penalty tries, but fuck me according to the current rules that was a looong way off being one. We did get one off a forward pass though

The GF isn't the biggest stage for a player, Origin is, and he's failed time and time again on that stage.

Ask any player in history if they would prefer to win a premiership or an origin series. Every single one will give the same answer

I also don't buy that because he's failed before he shouldn't be picked again. Joey Johns is a great example of someone who took years to play well at a rep level

Joey Johns was a once in a lifetime player and showed he was worth persisting with early on. Mitchell Pearce is not and never will be a once in a lifetime player and is not worth persisting with when there are much much better options.
Also I'm not suggesting he shouldn't be picked ever again, but clearly him at 7 is not working and has not worked for years and something needs to change. How many more lost series, in which he under performs, should we wait before he's dropped?

Pearce was average yesterday and has been woeful in origin, when it comes to big games that's all you can expect from him. If he had a different last night he would never of played origin IMO.

Edited by sydneycroatia58: 7/10/2013 03:57:21 PM He obviously won't ever reach Joey's level, but the way people like Joey and Locky speak of him you know he could be a great player. He's still years away from his peak. If they do give him and Maliney another go, they need to build the team around that. They need big front rowers and dynamic hole running back rowers. We can't pick them and go in with only one real front rower again. The only other option I see is Reynolds, and he didn't handle the pressure well in the finals. RB you don't see it on tv, but Pearce led the team around brilliantly last night, turned the game with his pass for Guerra and had one of the best kicking performances in a GF since Ricky Stuart. If he had that same approach to game 3 for the blues this year id say we win the series. He's learnt to not overplay his hand now. Also big love for SKD, playing 75 minutes with a broken jaw

99P think you were watching a different player  Pearce was doing 3/5ths of fuck all. Smartest person on the field was Maloney and the bright idea to keep bombing it @ Williams. Worked to a tee. -PB

-PB I'll admit I am probably being overly defensive of him  The reality is he forced repeat sets, won the field position battle and set up the game turning try. I think people would be more appreciative of his performance if DCE wasn't so good. I thought Foran played well too, but I guess everyone did in such a high quality game. Really disappointed in the way our fans booed DCE when he accepted the Churchill medal, he would have to be one of the best blokes in the game, and watching the game on TV after getting home he really was the standout.

We did get one off a forward pass though Congrats on the win - forward pass it was and a couple of other dubious decisions by the ref but thats football. Good season by the Eagles - they'll be back next season ready to rumble again. Sorry mate I'm with the others re Pearce - he hasn't got the nerves for origin, had enough chances to perform - pity DCE is one of theirs he outshone him easily :)
Love Football
