Academy News: Coast Meets West

The Central Coast Mariners Boys Academy teams travelled to Bathurst over the weekend to play the Western NSW Mariners. With both clubs performing well the points were shared with the Coast Boys coming home with 10 points and Western earning four points in the FNSW 2012 Boys Super Youth League Club Championship.

With temperatures nudging zero degrees the Coast Grade 13 Boys opened the scoring with a goal to Michael Glassock. The 13s game ended in a 1-1 draw after an equaliser from Western.

The Grade 14, 15 and 16 Central Coast Boys continued their winning ways with triumphs in all three grades.

The Grade 14 Boys Central Coast Mariners Academy team won 3-0 with two goals to Trent Buhagiar and one goal to Lachlan Macey on his return from injury.

The Grade 15 Coast boys had a 2-1 win with goals to Lachlan Wilkinson and Matt Bennett for the Coast.

In the 16s, the Coast secured a three nil win, adding to their unbeaten run for Season 2012.

Stuart Adams of the Grade 18 Boys scored for the Coast Academy team to be up one nil at half time. The 18s were unable to retain the lead going down 2-1 to Western NSW Mariners.

The Boys Central Coast Mariners Academy teams remain top of the Club Championship with 105 points after 9 Rounds with the Western NSW Mariners sitting in fourth position.

Moss: "Eagerly anticipating our next tilt at Asia"

THE ACL experience may have come to an end in Nagoya on Tuesday night, but there is not doubt the Central Coast Mariners have left their mark in Asia.

From China to Korea, and finally the real powerhouse of Asia Japan, we played a brand of football that with a little more luck in front of goal had all the ingredients of being successful in this part of the world’s equivalent to the European Champions League.

Coach Graham Arnold’s experience in Asia through his involvement with the Socceroos proved invaluable and the players equipped themselves very well against teams that have an annual playing budget of between $30-60 million.

It seems a long way off right now but everyone at the Club is eagerly anticipating our next tilt at Asia at the end of next season.

We ended Tuesday’s game with five 19-20-year-olds on the pitch while our experienced players led by example.

Down 2-0 at half-time we came out of the blocks well after the break and had three great chances to score and put pressure on a Nagoya outfit that boasted several senior Japanese internationals.

The scoreline of 3-0 flattered Nagoya if you take into account the fact we virtually gifted them their goals.
When you make a mistake against top quality international opposition you invariably get punished.

At the other end of the pitch you simply have to take your chances.

The result does not in any way take away from what has been an outstanding season by the lads.

We won the Premier’s Plate – the pinnacle in any player and coaches mind – were one penalty off a back-to-back Grand Final appearance against Brisbane and one win away from the last 16 of the Asian Champions League.

We are the smallest Club in Asia by a fair way but continue to punch way above our weight.

It’s a credit to everyone at the Club on and off the field and hopefully we have given our loyal supporters something to cheer about this season.

Only problem with Kappa is that it's really tight fitting. Not so good when you're a big guy like me.

Central Coast Mariners Presented Key to the City

In a Civic Ceremony on Monday afternoon, Mayor of Gosford City, Councillor Laurie Maher presented the Central Coast Mariners with the Keys to Gosford City for their contribution to the City.

The award recognises the Mariners for their excellent performances since the inception of the Hyundai A-League competition.

Since beginning as a foundation club in 2005/06 the Mariners have won the Premiers Plate in 2007/08 and 2011/12, made three Grand Finals and are currently in the midst of their second AFC Asians Champion League Campaign.

Councillor Maher said that the Central Coast is home to one of the most successful clubs in the A-League’s short history.

“The Mariners have achieved wonderful successes on the field over the last seven seasons and this is just one way that we can recognise their achievements.

“While the award recognised the team’s efforts on the field, it was also an acknowledgement of their contribution to the local community.

“The Central Coast Mariners have become an institution within our region, with players and coaching staff contributing considerably to our community

“The team has strongly supported grassroots football with coaching clinics; promoted a healthy lifestyle amongst youth with their MarinerACTIVE Schools Program and supported local charities and fundraising initiatives.

“It is this contribution off the field that has been able to win over many Central Coast fans and is a real credit to the culture of the club,” said Councillor Maher.

Gosford City Council General Manager, Mr Peter Wilson said that the Mariners success had significantly lifted the profile of Central Coast around Australia and the world.

“With the Mariners performing strongly in the A-League and their participation in the AFC Asian Champions League they have put the spotlight on the Central Coast region.

“We look forward to their continued success over the coming seasons with many exciting young prospects leading the charge to remain at the top of the A-League competition,” said Mr. Wilson.

Captain of the Central Coast Mariners, Alex Wilkinson said that it was a great honour for the club to receive this accolade.

“The club receiving the Keys to the City is something really special, not only does this recognise the achievements of the players and coaching staff but also the hard work of the people behind the scenes who have built such a great club.

“Each and every one of the players and staff are proud to be able to represent the Central Coast and we would like to extend our thanks to Gosford Council for this award,” said Mr Wilkinson.

Hope he stays with us , perhaps just trying to up his deal for the next year or so!

I'm seriously over these questions. Not having a go at you, but just the fact this thing's been going on forever and I still have nfi let alone being able to answer it.
