Just thinking about Mooy and his poor form over the last two weeks, I reckon a deal has already been done. He is nowhere near as hungry as he was before the last two games against Perth and Adelaide.

To say he isnt good enough at the age of 19 to any kid most of the time they will just give up, the great sports stars are great for this reason they dont give when somebody says to them your not good enough they prove them wrong!
This is what holds us back the most compared to the rest of the players in the around, the mentality holds us back. Spot on. Tim Cahill is a perfect example of the right mentality. We need more of our footballers to be like. If you want to succeed in European football you can't expect it all to go smoothly. Craig Johnson has said people told him to hop back to Australia. What did he do? He just trained harder (and smarter) than ever before. To illustrate the value in what you're saying. When I was in high school, we had a speaker address a few of us. He was a priest, I think, and had also coached the First VIII in rowing. There was a lad he coached who really wanted to be a rower in the First VIII. This priest said to the lad that unfortunately the lad wasn't good enough. That lad's name is Nick Green. Fast forward some years and he was part of the Oarsome Foursome and won gold medals at the Olympics. It just goes to show you can't let people decide on your dreams for you. You've got to do it yourself and commit everything. I think the priest was happy to have been proved wrong.

Meh, either way he wasn't good enough when he was in Europe. you keep banging on with this bs and its just plain wrong He was definitely offered a contract extension by Bolton but turned it down for first team football. and then st mirren was trying to push him into a wing which he wanted no part of so he left wsw wanted him to play as a defensive mid which he was not into gets to mcfc, plays in his prefered position, fkn nails it. Nails it? What next? The Pope is a Sunni Muslim? He was in Europe for six years. Between the ages of 16 and 21. The ages at which the best players in the world, usually, start to emerge. In that time, Mooy made ZERO appearances for Bolton Wanders, he played twenty-one times for St. Mirren and scored one goal. What I said was that he wasn't good enough the first time. Clearly, this is the case. You could go so far as to say that means he failed the first time by any reasonable measure. Get defensive about this all you like. It was failure. I think so. I'd imagine most of the even-handed, knowledgeable and brainy contributors to this forum would agree that amounts to failure. Draupnir was of the opinion that that is failure. It doesn't mean he'll fail this time round though ;) Edited by quickflick: 11/4/2016 01:27:28 AM

But he might be now ;) Yes, coming to a league that values brains over brawn and technique over physical has done his game a world of good

Mostly so his handling speed can be tested. we haven't had many (if any?) players go to the championship and improve over the last decade or so a lot of players have lost their flair going there Championship is a dumb football league tbh. Won't learn anything there other than to run harder and perhaps become more physically tough. There are a dozen other leagues i'd want Mooy to be in before venturing into Championship. He's entering his prime, and what makes him stand out is his technique and ball passing vision (as well as his free kick ability). If he were a speedy winger or a solid defender, i'd be all for him to move the Championship. His qualities don't suit championship whatsoever.

It's a tad slower than Germany and England, but still the Serie A and La Liga are world class leagues and very good technically. I can't see him slotting into a Villarreal or a Fiorentina, but I can see him at a Real Sociedad or Empoli. A mid table top flight club. Fiorentina actually play a style that would very much suit him tbh. But knowing the club it's unlikely they will take a real punt on Mooy without previous Euro experience. When they signed Brillante I was pretty shocked, but then seeing the loan deals, it wasn't surprising in the end. Mooy is however a much better player than Brillante is so who knows.

Eastern Glory wrote:They've already knocked back 2mil from Al Nassr. I reckon the championship is what he needs. They say it's the league with the least time on the ball, and I think if he can improve his handling speed, in the course of a season, he could move to the Premier league. No championship would not suit him at all. Bloody long ball league would ruin him i reckon. And he'd probably get chopped up. His style would suit perfectly in La Liga. If that wasn't a possibility i'd be aiming for a move to the Serie A or Bundesliga. He's one of our top national players, he would be able to handle top flight football in a major league. Gotta remember that Championship clubs go looking for dynamic players. Carle, Corica, Rogic ect... So there is a desire for flair there. I think teams are playing better football now than 5 years ago though. I think luongo has lost some of his flair since going there even though he came from a weaker league. This is despite luongo being a standout the last 2 months or so for his club also i will never forget jedi's suicidal tackling when he played there! cost the roos a pen and a red card

That's interesting to note, I haven't really noticed him chasing down pacey attackers. He needs to be able to do that. You could see an overseas club wanting him for more of a deep lying playmaker role, where he can sit in front of the defence and pick passes, start attacks, those types of things. You also need to help out defensively and one part of it is closing down attackers. I hope the scouts didn't watch last nights game though! :p
