Would be interesting to see how many of the memberships were sold after the Bolt rumours started.
Low memberships could also be to do with Magic Mike signing a bunch of NPL players and fans thinking they won't be at all competitive this season. Perhaps sick of seeing their team get smashed?

Why pay money to watch a team no better than your local pub team!

So Adelaide is down ~800, Brisbane is up ~2,100, gypos are down ~1500, City is down ~600, Victory is down ~2000 (even with VAR assistance), Newy is up ~1200, Glory is down ~600, Sydney is down ~2600 (!), Nux are up ~1200, Wanderers are down ~1200.

Only 3 clubs are on the up re: membership numbers. Sydney typically disappointing.

Why are Sydney FC a colossal failure in their market?

Why do Victorians think that Membership numbers matter ?

Closed HAL is failing with 10 teams
Closed HAL failed with 11
FFA forced to try a 12 team Closed HAL thatll just create 2 more mid table also-rans
and still this weird 16-team panacea gets trotted out.
Theres a sticky for this nonsense

SFC are a bit of a different case though (statistically speaking). MV for example have average attendances lower than their membership numbers whereas SFC has higher average attendances compared to their membership numbers. Financially speaking a club gets more money (per ticket) for non members, so although SFC members numbers seem low, ticket revenue would be very good. Their average attendance is 2nd only to MV. Calling that a colossal failure is a bit harsh. However, it is interesting. The numbers suggest SFC fans are prepared to go to games regularly, but not purchase memberships.

Victory were over 20k last week, so I'm not sure where that number is coming from. We also have to remember that the season is starting 2 weeks later than last year, so that could be a reason for lower membership numbers at this stage.

I think the whole FFA governance debacle is impacting membership numbers to an extent and I hope that doesn't reflect in terms of crowd numbers this year.

It's a real shame, because judging by the quality of the imports (and returning Socceroos/fringe Socceroos) this year shapes up as potentially the highest standard in footballing terms..and for once I'm excited about an A-League season.

There is no shortage of seats at the SFS, nor will there be at the three grounds we are moving to. I personally have two season tickets and see the benefits they offer.

I look at the numbers and interpret them to say that there are a lot of Sydney FC supporters and they turn up at different games during the year. This would be expected when you consider that Sydney FC support base spreads across 3-4 major areas on the city.

@ Midfielder

I’d say membership is flat on last year based on those numbers then. No need to haggle over a few either way. .

Its good that members haven’t pissed off completely.

Its bad that we’re unable to inject some growth in there.

Given the state of the game I think we’ll take this as a win.

I'm surprised Mariners membership is lower this time than it was last year.
Are they not using Bolt in local advertising?
Surely you'd have him on every local t.v, radio and newspaper with a gimmicky marketing strategy. You know, along the lines of "I'm working overtime to be a mariner, but it's easy for you, just go to the website and sign up as member, heres the details ... blah blah blah".
If this isn't happening in the Central Coast area, I'd be asking questions of the clubs marketing staff.
If it is happening, I'd be worried that the Mariners have less members this season than last season. They should be aiming for a significant increase with Bolt AND all of the other new players, especially McCormack and Oar. I know they've just signed, but it's been a few weeks of rumours.

No but it is suprising given their recruiting, might pick up a bit after McCormack and Oar were announced.

It's funny coz it's true.  :laugh:

Mariners can try the following amazing innovations to get people to their games.

* Score some goals
* Win some games
* Have a decent coach
* Not sign useless donkey's
* Not be an administrative basketcase
* Engage with the community ( which they do well truth be told )

It's not rocket science however that moron Charlesworth seems to think it is, perhaps this season might be different.

Adelaide, Roar, City, Jets and Nix all up from one month prior to the corresponding seasons. Mariners, Victory, Glory, Victory and WSW all down.

Mariners down 22% from last year but apparently have experienced a jump in the last couple of days.

The CCM signings are exciting and causing a change. I didn't want to get a membership this year as I am not going to watch any game with Matt Simon on the team sheet. His re-signing marked a real low point in club ambition and the wrong culture. The latest few signings have me reconsidering.

Don't you think the location and fact they are playing at 3 different grounds would be a factor? If you know Sydney it is a pain in the arse travelling north to south  [ Kogarah ]. I know a lot of people who will just attend the games that are convenient until the new home base is complete. Many of whom have held season tickets previously.

Sydney now has a movable home, hence many are just turning up to the games instead of committing to whole season. I only changed my mine in the past week to get a full membership.

Change the 18/19 figures over the next 2 weeks, but thought I would put together a chart of what the membership was at the start of the season, links provided as well.
Note 18/19 & 17/18 season show in the chart the day before the season started. With 18/19 still with 3 weeks to add.
Seasons 16/17, 15/16 & 14/15 show the total membership.
The last line shows the season start numbers. PS no idea how to remove lines with the links below.
