+xlast night bozza said “With how it’s going right now, the grand final as great as it was, was the lowest-rating grand final in A-League history,” surely thats not right? i don't know if its true, but I thought Bozza's rant was disappointing. He started off talking abouty how concerned he was about the game, but then went into self preservation mode by going on about how good Fox Sports has been to the game.

+xlast night bozza said “With how it’s going right now, the grand final as great as it was, was the lowest-rating grand final in A-League history,” surely thats not right? He must have been referring to it being the lowest rated GF on Fox, which is probably true (we don't know streaming numbers).

Remarkably, there is no comparison.

“The AFL has an issue with Foxtel ratings. Down 5.8% on last seasons first 10 rounds, and down more than 17% on 2017s. Second lowest average for this time of the year since the 9 game Fox simulcast deals started in 2012 (beaten to the bottom only by 2015”
FMD .... it’s almost like they’re, you know, WATCHING ON KAYO or something 😂😂👏

The streaming figures are commercially sensitive - Fox certainly won’t want the AFL knowing those numbers.

+xNo they don’t. The streaming figures are commercially sensitive - Fox certainly won’t want the AFL knowing those numbers. well considering the AFL deal is the best part of a billion more than the HAL deal, they may have a little more clout in regards to getting access to this type of stuff. Plus the AFL are much smarter negotiators and are ahead of the game more often than not.

While everyone is guessing Fox has the negotiating hand, if the AFL knows the figures are 10k a game it’s worth x ... if they know it’s 100,000 per game it’s worth xxx - while they’re guessing it’s worth what Kayo say it’s worth. The fundamental point though is AFL viewing is DOWN ... just like the HAL funny that.

That’s weird, I’ve read that Foxsports AFL ratings are down by 5.8% on the first 10 rounds last season and more than 17% from 2017. https://twitter.com/vincerugari/status/1132933531296919555?s=21

Yep, so did I. At first I thought because one was talking about Fox and the other about FTA, but the age article is actually talking about both. Could it be The Age is including numbers we are not privy to??

Waz just thinking out aloud, but Fox do earn revenue from advertisers, so they would need to tell potential advertisers what the numbers are, at least in broad terms, and once that info is out, you'd think the AFL would know about it straight away.

Not quite. Streaming advertising is not the same as FTA/STV advertising which is based purely on eyeballs watching. FTA/STV is one advert for everyone the streaming business model is different. Streaming Adverting is targeted. While Kayo are just carrying the Fox Sports content at the moment along with any Ads the real value comes when they can target ads (eg by geography) which is what advertisers want nowadays. All of us can be watching the same stream but see different ads. In theory, streaming can get three to five times more money per ad sold on STV using data to target the ads to specific audiences, Foxtel are competing with YouTube and Facebook in that regard so even advertisers won’t get the full picture
