Ok with expansion next time, will any former Nsl club win a spot? Will it be say fourth time unsuccessful?
It must be the same glaring issue time and again,  what could it be that the decision makers are avoiding, is it a mono thing, a monobrow?

One thing that people forget re the WU sell-out is that Victorians have not seen any live sport since March. We are hanging out for it.

Real ‘dodgy bros’ stuff this WU mob. Seems their main interest and priority is to sell cheap townhouses in the middle of nowhere with a WU membership thrown in to unsuspecting migrants. One day this complete sham will unravel and all the $ide deal$ between council, property developers, FFA and ‘silent’ investors will get exposed. WU is a farce of the highest order, a joke, a scam, a lie, a disgrace to football in this country. They’ll never ever gain traction. People aren’t stupid and can see through this complete charade.

Yep, well SMFC and Co. had plenty of time to turn the game pro, so maybe dont just tear down the efforts of those who managed to do so. I'm all for reunification but that aint the way to do so.

Went to the game, was one of 200 people of the general public to get a ticket.

Tickets were sold on a ‘first in, best dressed’ basis.

There was certainly a large contingent of North Geelong fans there. Their active group ‘North Fans’ were there in good numbers and provided good atmosphere.

Tbh, their active group would stand up well against a lot of A-League teams, wouldn’t surprise me if the vast majority of their group were also North Terrace members.

Stupidly they weren’t allowed to bring in a drum either, security stopped them at the gate. 😂

Anyway, on to Western United.

Yes, the ‘sell out’ crowd was 200 general public members, plus officials etc.

Was a good atmosphere thanks to the North fans, and there were plenty of Western United fans too, so I wouldn’t say they had no fans there at all - it was quite the opposite.

Was just great to be at a game again.

The game itself was a foregone conclusion.

North Geelong had only been training for two weeks and are NPL2, but as someone who’s a big advocate of the Geelong grassroots scene, it was a magnificent game to be at and it felt like a ‘derby’ in some ways.

Hopefully these two teams can face each other in pre-season at GMHBA stadium each year, would really build a local rivalry there.

I personally hadn’t been to a game since February, which I’m sure is the case for many of us on here.

Anyway, I’m looking forward to being able to go to more games, and it was just great to be back at the Football again!

Still bitter 2 years on. Time to get over it and start dreaming of your team being part of the second tier very soon.

One thing is or sure, if they ever get the home ground up and running in Tarneit, the average Melburnian ain't going out there on a Saturday night.

Maybe not, but people in the western suburbs will. It's only going to be a 15k capacity stadium. If they keep performing the way they did last season, they will easily get 10k+ each week once the stadium is built. However, if they perform poorly over the next few seasons it's going to be very difficult to win the fans back, especially when MV and MC are just as accessible to fans in the western suburbs.

South and a couple of other clubs did try and run "fully professional" towards the end of the NSL but it almost drove them bankrupt as the competition was failing by then. I hope the same doesn't happen to the independent AL.

That sounds awesome, sincerely. I haven't been to a live game since Feb either and seriously missing the game day experience now.
Sounds like I was right about the majority of fans being for North Geelong Warriors. Imagine if Horvat (who has ties to the club) and co really did what was best for football in this country and decided to throw their "investment into the game" behind the Warriors instead? 20 mill for license and another 20-40 mil to upgrade the facilities at North Geelong and there is your ready made A- League club.  Regional catchment area - tick, stadium - tick, history and existing vibrant fan base - tick, instant derby with Victory and City - tick, I reckon a lot of the disenfranchised NSL fans in the area would also jump on board this if it ever happened - hell even I would have gone to a few games.
As a South member I would still be bitter that my club wasn't chosen but I would at least acknowledge that this was a move made to better the game here in Australia ...

If the stadium happens and I hope it does, I'd love to go on a Saturday away fixture there. I think Saturdays won't be an issue. I think mostly Sundays and potentially Fridays, both because of work and school reasons. I remember the first fixture against WU for City was on a late Sunday evening in Geelong. I know I wasn't alone with not being able to go because of the time and day. But I'd believe Saturdays wouldn't be too much of an issue for City or Victory fans. That's surely when they will look to have those fixtures in the future.

Well the training facilities should be ready next season. The main ground will hold at least 5k.
That alone is a good start for regular home matches.

OK, So I guess 1st round 2022 is when you are talking about, sometime in Feb-March if all goes they way FA are discussing?
Lets see what pans out shall we, I hope there are not too many disappointed fans driving around the dirt track off Sayers Rd looking for a stadium.

serious question, no agendas - do you get the feeling that geelong and western suburbs melby people are buying into WU?
i thought that it was a poor decision when they were awarded (and i still think that) but now they are here, aus football needs them to thrive.

There's a fan base in Wyndham area small but they're there . Most are first time aleaguers who didn't follow mv or city for numerous reasons. I got a feeling the Geelong fans aren't interested since after a while the team will up and leave g town

There's a fan base in Wyndham area small but they're there . Most are first time aleaguers who didn't follow mv or city for numerous reasons. I got a feeling the Geelong fans aren't interested since after a while the team will up and leave g town

I have a few friends and family that live in/around the area and they are genuinely interested in the club, however they are all very much in the 'lets wait and see' camp. They may go to a few games and watch on TV, but they are not keen on becoming members/regulars yet. There are two main reasons for this. First is the stadium (or lack there of). Until it's built, people are less than eager to invest their time and money. If the stadium never gets built, they may as well just follow the successful MV or well-backed MC. The second reason is the memory of Heart. It was half arsed in the beginning and lacked any real identity. CFG have slowly started to turn things around, but Victorians still very much remember the disappointment that was Heart. WU has a similar vibe at the moment. It still lacks identity. Sure they claim to belong to the west, but it's a very vague/broad definition of the west. That combined with the lack of a home, makes it a hard sell to the fans at the moment.
