+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+xKey points from the article:- The government will on Friday announce funding and a feasibility review for a 15,000 seat multipurpose venue for Melbourne’s fast growing south east.

- Location would be on council owned land as per Team 11 bid.
- Fed government would be called upon for funding.
- Feasibility study expected to be finished this year.
Thanks for the summary.
Interesting times. Even though I am in the Northern suburbs, I do tend to think City’s best chance for the future is making the South East it’s home - not just a training base.
I am sure many will be annoyed it it does end up playing matches in Dandenong, but the chance to open up the significant South East catchment area is certainly something that will finally give the club added value.
As for WU, it’s hard to see what they do next with no signs of movement on this stadium vision they have. Once MC moves to Dandy, WU can use AAMI officially and there will be no stadium in Tarneit. You heard it here first. People can moan as much as they like but WU are part of the APL and they won't punish themselves for not meeting the promises made to FFA. Probs explains why they are dragging their feet. Aami is not Western. WU don't belong there. But marvel is. I wouldn't suprise me if they used marvel as a home stadium as it's geographically West. Yes but it is not Rectangle so its shite. What about triangles? How do you feel about other shapes? Opah!!! Hexagonal is more effective if they spend alittle more on the project, if it ever gets going. I heard Dec 21 of late. Are you dancing or have you just been watching one to many Mikis Theodorakis tributes on Youtube? Dec 21st, hey.... maybe someone is pulling your leg on the longest day of the year ..... heheheh next week is exactly 30 months since being awarded a license....... What a musical composer Theothorakis, I was dancing on the ceiling like Lionel Messi, I mean Ritchie!! 😁 Yeah well at least Miki died with dignity last week after a very very long life - Is still being honoured with tributes in Paris, Berlin, Moscow, Washington - everywhere basically apart from Australia where its more important to hear about an ex AFL wag's coke habit on the news.

It’s been said a million times but I don’t even care, this whole thing is a shambles. How can you name a team western United? West of what? Where’s the stadium?who is asking the tough questions? Mono is spot on here, the football media are too worried about upsetting anyone they don’t ask the tough questions (apart from hill). Peacock is great but he’s too worried about being everyone’s mate.
We just want accountability, we want to hear a plan, a direction. They are hurting the entire league. At least the Mariners, jets etc have identity to a region. Sure the jets have been bad for a while but at least there is a geographic identity. Western have literally zero.

For what its worth, I think there is just ONE question that needs to be asked and answered. Q. If the Whyndham land deal does not progress and the housing development is delayed for 3-4 years or longer, will WU still continue as a football club? There are two people on this thread who have the answer and are directly responsible for providing them, they know who they are. If they had any credibility the answer would come but Im not holding my breath.

Great news for the WU folk. 2 x week lockdown of construction sites in Melbourne gives them a handy scapegoat for when the hard hitting soccer journos in this country ask for updates on their stadium build :P

In 3 years (almost November 18th is just around the corner) they still havent organized a haul raod? "The early works will commence with building of the site’s haul road to create access to the stadium site for construction vehicles, as well as upgrades to Leakes Road and construction of the interim Ison Road. The early works can proceed while the stadium and the surrounding precinct’s Concept Master Plan – which was submitted to the state government in July – is being approved." HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

What I can't understand is that keeping this joke of a football club alive is costing the owners millions of dollars per season. What would it be? Maybe $7 million per season. For team without a ground or supporters.
WHY???????

+xWhat I can't understand is that keeping this joke of a football club alive is costing the owners millions of dollars per season. What would it be? Maybe $7 million per season. For team without a ground or supporters. WHY??????? That's exactly why I see the stadium happening, why would owners spend money on a team with no end goal or purpose, theyre legit a partial owner in the jets as well, WSW, SFC and Western United are the three clubs keeping Newcastle in the comp. The people who invested and created this team had the goal of land development and sale, needed an asset to make the land value higher, so a sporting team was a perfect option. Every other code was either too big or small and football was the perfect scale, the idea as a whole to think that they made the club for land development is annoying yes, not true intentions behind the club. But they have to have true intentions for the club to make it fit there goal If there's no stadium or the training facility, all the money spent so far on the team itself has been a waste and doesn't fulfil the purpose. Plus managing this club well, promoting it and growing it, it does have stacks of potential, the Melbourne population can support 3 clubs for sure and this country can embrace football, its a long road before the clubs become profitable but they potentially could be in the future, but even disregarding that, millions on a team for nothing, not a smart way to do business, the stadium will come, just when is the question, and it still might be 3-4 years till complete, but finally finally finally a good sign with a fixed date for some progress

+xIn 3 years (almost November 18th is just around the corner) they still havent organized a haul raod? "The early works will commence with building of the site’s haul road to create access to the stadium site for construction vehicles, as well as upgrades to Leakes Road and construction of the interim Ison Road. The early works can proceed while the stadium and the surrounding precinct’s Concept Master Plan – which was submitted to the state government in July – is being approved." HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH Spruiking council early works Is what this announcement seems to be!? 🤔 notice the lack of the club actually doing anything? otherwise their wouldve been a lot of “we” and “the club” actually doing some things.

Incredible that one of the arguments against South Melbourne was that Lakeside was too close to AAMI (whereas, in reality, Lakeside's location is near perfect).

May as well, I’ve always said not having any football at Lakeside over summer is a waste, our social club will get good use so we will get a win financially.
Of course the question many will ask is if Lakeside was going to be an A league venue why not just have South in? It’s a bad look for WU and puts further question marks on that decision in December 2018. It just proves the whole “lakeside is too close to aami” argument was a load of crock.
