They’d need to keep some tarp for covering all the neo nazi insignia/graffiti or portraits of war criminals down there

I've never noticed any George Bush or Johnnie Howard portraits in the clubhouse, maybe they take them down before Hellas games?

Yeah it is and i agree the A-league GF will be there if they host, but moving forward the only club that will play there will be Victory.

Victory - AAMI
City - Dandenong
WU - Tarneit

agree. although i would hope we leave AAMI Park one day and build our own stadium.

Western - Sunshine

Melbourne Croatis's Stadium? We know that will not happen now. It is incredible that there is not one boutique sized Rectangular Stadium, besides Croatia's and Hellas's Stadiums, in decent condition, in all of Western Melbourne, honestly! Same goes for S/E Qld, what lazyness, what rediculous oversights!

Development Approved for Western United Training Facility
https://wufc.com.au/news/development-approved-for-western-united-training-facility

2½ seasons in and the training facility only just got approval with a completion date of May 2023. This isn't the main stadium, just the adjacent training ground. The mongrel idiots will be at AAMI for a decade at this rate.

So if you go on the Wyndham city council website you can see the agenda for this meeting that ratified this decision.

In the agenda on page 205 you can see updated drawings and designs for the stadium.

It now features a hill at the south end. It is not an all seater stadium.

Makes me wonder, will the "training' stadium, become their actual stadium??

Hmmm Im slightly confused guys:

https://councilpapers.wyndham.vic.gov.au/Open/2022/PCM_08032022_AGN_2665_AT.PDF

under 8. Financial Viability:"Council and Western Melbourne Group (WMG) have entered into an agreement whereby Council will construct the pavilion, three pitches and associated works and WMG will make a financial contribution to the capital works. Council will lease the land and facilities to WMG"

So not only is the dirt road funded by the council but 1,000 seat training stand and pitches are being paid for by the council on council owned land???? WTF is WMG "owning" in all this and what exactly is the financial contribution... I wouldn't be happy if my rates were being paid to this council.... dodgy fuckers.

Good news is that NPL teams in the area can use it for games (if it is ever built) as it belongs to the council. Only problem is that it is mush smaller capacity than most other grounds in the area so nobody would want to.

Imo this would be the best case scenario for the club.
They only have a small supporter base so there’s no dishonour in having humble beginnings and actually embedding themselves with a long term home base in the area they are supposed to represent.

Even one main stand with all the TV facilities, corporates, change rooms etc would be suffice with hills at each end.
I can kinda remember the renders for the training facility and it appeared scalable to be upsized to the actual stadium for A League football.

Lets be honest, WMG don’t have the funds for a 15,000 all seater. And with building costs sky rocketing it’s not going to get any cheaper…

It was obvious 3 and a half years ago there wasn't going to be a privately built stadium any time soon, let alone within 18 months of being given a license.

So either the board showed extraordinary ineptitude in getting so easily hoodwinked by such a grandiose idea, or they all strongly suspected it wasn't going to happen, but didn't actually care.

I'm not sure which one comes across worse.

In the latter scenario, not only did they not care that the application for a license was one massive lie, but the board didn't even take the next step to ponder where they would play home for two seasons (which will now become 5 seasons or more).  If Geelong had been uttered at this point, shouldn't alarm bells have started ringing?  If Geelong wasn't broached, well, where were they meant to play?  No one asked, no one cared.

When it comes down to it, they've got as much right to play in the publicly owned AAMI Park as, well, anyone else.  I mean, what claim does Victory have on it?  Did they contribute even one red cent to it?  They have a lease, I'm guessing, but the same lease is available to any other club who wants to try and negotiate one, ahem, like Melbourne Heart...erm...City.  What special claim do they have on AAMI Park?

Now, if we are to believe that Melb City is wanting to play out in the boondocks themselves, 30km outside of the CBD, well, if I'm sitting on the WU board, I'm thinking:  why don't we take their spot in AAMI Park and save ourselves countless millions of dollars?  Yeh, we might not average their average attendance of 6,000; but we might get 4,000 there.

Presumably Victory and City agreed to let WU in on the proviso that it was playing in the west of Melbourne/Victoria, not in literally the same ground they do. Instead of potentially expanding the fan base of the A-League they're just eating into existing support. So I think they would have every right to be peeved about the situation.

I can't see WU being happy abotu staying in AAMI long term. All their messaging has been about being a club for the west, not central Melbourne. The one silver lining about this whole shitshow is that eventually you might have a pretty decent carve up of Melbourne between the west (WU), the centre/north (Victory) and south-east (City). If you were going to have two teams in the city and one in Dandenong then the Team XI bid would have been infinitely preferable.

Also AAMI is expensive. Even with the upper level closed, it's expensive. Which isn't a problem if you're averaging 10k+ attendances, but WU are averaging 3.5k (realistically a lot less as MV and MC away support boosts that average). They would be losing a lot of money playing at AAMI.

No its OK, they have a stake in one of the other franchises remember? WMG, despite not being able to build even a training ground without council  financial assistance, have plenty of money to spend .... not clear where its coming from, probably Russia and China together, but they are more than likely going to continue with their plan to fund a soccer team even if the real estate plans fall through. House prices dropping and lack of new migration causing drop in housing demand will not deter these fine folk from representing the western plains of Victoria........

LOL@ a 'training facility'

Essentially an admission that an actual stadium will never get built & had no intention of ever getting built.

Seeing as though A League clubs pride themselves on being cheap ambitionless fucks ( salary cap, P and R, an actual transfer system ) it looks like Western United have stumbled accidentally across the perfect football club business model.   No geographical location & no stadium to keep the costs down.  They're the equivalent of someone not owning a car & using car share services whenever they need it in the inner cities.  Kudos to them.

You want your local derby rivals to win the league? That is so odd. I guess thats why I just don't understand the Isuzu League. If South doesn't win the league every year I hope every other club forfeits the rest of the season and ends up equal last.......

I saw it and apparently, it’s a concept design based on a stadium in the USA. When WU originally announced themselves, they did say they were building a 15,000 seat stadium with the potential to increase it to 22,000 in the future. This might explain the missing terrace (although the idea of WU needing to expand to a 22,000 stadium is laughable right now).

No, I want Victory to win the league. But that’s probably not going to happen. I don’t find WU as offensive as Sydney or City. I don’t consider WU to be a rival, but I’m sure that’ll change in the coming years when they get more established.

But seeing them win the league and seeing the salt from the bitters who claim it should be South Melbourne or Wollongong (or whoever) instead of WU… Well it puts a little smirk in the corner of my mouth.
