+xThat ever reliable source of truth the "Herald Sun" is reporting the sporting complex will be complete sometime in 2023.... Its taken from a the Real estate section of the paper... https://www.realestate.com.au/news/farmers-nextdoor-to-future-western-united-home-ground-collect-200m-in-tarneit/?rsf=syn:news:nca:news:spa:strapIn part copied from the article... Construction started on the Western United sporting precinct last year and when complete, its main venue, to be known as Wyndham City Stadium, will host up to 15,000 fans. A training stadium will be able to accommodate 5000. There also plans to build 1000 homes as part of that development being run by Western Melbourne Group, who are the backers of the A-League team. Western United entered the nation’s top soccer code in 2019 and currently plays home games in Geelong and Ballarat. The sporting precinct is expected to be completed in 2023.
What is actually fact in this article mate? 1) Construction of the sporting precinct HAS NOT started yet, in fact planning approval has not even been issued - three scratches in the dirt for a supposed haul road and a photo opp are all that you can see. 2) WU ALSO plays the majority of their home games at AAMI park, a 'fact" that seems to have slipped the editors. 3) The sporting precinct is EXPECTED to be completed by 2023??? By whom is it expected? Certainly not anyone involved in the construction of such a massive, greenfield project in Victoria.....

Just for context AAMI Park broke ground in 2007 (almost a year and a half AFTER planning approval) and was completed in 2010. OK, its is almost double the size but based on the renders from WU just as complex to build..... Even if planning approval is given today, do you still think these charlatans can knock up a whole 15k AND 5k stadium AND sporting precinct in 23 months???? I dont think they will even try.

Same story with Parramatta stadium. That took approx 3 years and that included demolition. One key difference is that both AAMI and Parramatta had infrastructure already in place (eg: roads, plumbing, electrical, comms, etc). So even with all the infrastructure in place it takes 3 years. WU don't have the infrastructure in place which will create lengthy delays. Did they ever announce a builder?

Their original sponsor, probuild was supposed to be their builder but seems like Lou sticca and other directors of probuild fell out with the board

+xTop of the table....amazing Not really. Due to all of the postponements the table positions are misleading. Some teams have played 11 games while others have only played 7 and everything in between. PPG is a slightly better metric to use in these situations to gauge team performance. Macarthur currently have the highest PPG at 2. WU do have the 2nd highest PPG at 1.9 which puts them only slightly ahead of MV at 1.875.

+xProspect of a WU vs Macarthur Grand Final at AAMI is a scary thought. No problem. Make it a Macarthur home game & play it at Lynwood Park at St Helen's Park near Campbelltown the home of the mighty Macarthur Rams. They'd love the sausage sandwich revenue from the canteen. Capacity about 2-3000. Plenty of room for a game with these two teams.

+xProspect of a WU vs Macarthur Grand Final at AAMI is a scary thought. The stadium drama could have been avoided if they negotiated to play at Knights' Stadium. Given the crowd sizes though I doubt they could even fill that.

What a mess we've entered to with WUFC and McArthur expansion teams.
Really this rests on the heads of the then FA Administration. I know the current FA Administration and APL are not particulary impressed by them.
Looking back it appears nothing more than a cash grab that did nothing for any body.
In particular the expansion process did not follow the success of the establishment West Sydney Wanderers.
At the very least with the promotion of WUFC to the AL they should not have been admitted until their stadium was completed. And this should have occurred with the Team 11 bid from Dandenong. Build it and you're in.
WUFC disturbs me in that they have not realised how important is to connect with the local game with the team they have. Their coaching appointments were wrong and their recruiting has been wrong. And I can say that as the metrics dial of crowds and viewers is a disaster.
Think Global act Local should have been the theme for their team.
I would appointed a Victorian coaching team, no offence to Rudan and Aloisi, but they don't move the dials on local interest. Use the Visa rules to recruit the backbone of your team. Must say WUFC have been able to do that well. The rest of the squad should have been local. The best and simple way of having a "Connection" to the Victorian Football Community.
On another note from what I've heard about Knights Stadium and WUFC, is that APL is negotiating with Knights to upgrade the stadium for AL and that would come from the Silver Lake money.
My view, why should the Knights give WUFC an advantage in the West? When next year they could be in the NSD and can establish themselves as the team of the West

Just on the stadium situation, wasnt the issue with Knights Stadium that WU didnt want to pay 200k for upgrades or something similar?
I believe for the two other A-league clubs, the cost per game at AAMI Park is roughly 50k to open up. How could the 200k possibly have been an issue for Knights stadium?
For the 2022/2023 season, WU must have a permanent home stadium. It is shambolic to have them moving around like this

Yeah it is and i agree the A-league GF will be there if they host, but moving forward the only club that will play there will be Victory. Victory - AAMI City - Dandenong WU - Tarneit In the mean time: Victory - AAMI City - AAMI Western - Sunshine

I think we can all agree that WU got in by means of a fraudulent claim, but that's really on whoever it was assessing the applications because even at the time, it did appear far-fetched.
Anyway, the anonymous foreign property developers made it in, and they were probably as suprised as the rest of us.
Now that they are in, they are in, and once you're in, you there unless you end up excommunicated. They are entitled to follow the path of least resistance, i.e. they'll do whatever makes the most commercial sense. So for anyone to state outright: they should be playing in Footscray, or Sunshine, or in the boondocks, on a cow paddock, or whatever, it's sort of a bit silly.
When it comes down to it, they've got as much right to play in the publicly owned AAMI Park as, well, anyone else. I mean, what claim does Victory have on it? Did they contribute even one red cent to it? They have a lease, I'm guessing, but the same lease is available to any other club who wants to try and negotiate one, ahem, like Melbourne Heart...erm...City. What special claim do they have on AAMI Park?
Now, if we are to believe that Melb City is wanting to play out in the boondocks themselves, 30km outside of the CBD, well, if I'm sitting on the WU board, I'm thinking: why don't we take their spot in AAMI Park and save ourselves countless millions of dollars? Yeh, we might not average their average attendance of 6,000; but we might get 4,000 there.
