Hard to tell at this early stage. It's not out of the question that they could get 8k or so.

+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+x+xso what does everyone think their first game will get for attendance? Depends on how many free tickets they are giving out. They would be crazy not to give out a bunch of tickets at clubs and schools in the region. If they give out a bunch of free tickets, I estimate 5-10K attendance. If not it could be below 5k. It's also a little troubling that memberships are still unavailable. All I can think is maybe they were waiting for the fixture to be finalised. I think you’re on the money with the free tickets. But if they have 8-9,000 people on Facebook each one represents say an average of 3 people (mums, dads, brothers, sisters etc) then they’ve got a decent early base of close to 30,000 people, most of which you’d assume would love to be st the first game if they can. Social media followers don't tell an accurate story though. MV has 226k facebook followers, SFC has 206k facebook followers, WSW has 106k facebook followers, Macarthur FC has 18k facebook followers. People follow stuff on social media for any number of reasons. Doesn't translate into bums on seats. Having less than 9k followers on facebook is a actually a bit of a worry to be honest. The season is only a few months away. Macarthur FC has over double the followers and they don't enter the comp for another 18 months. I know what you mean but WU are early in their life with little SM activity. Those 9,000 are your early adopters and many of them are likely to be your wannabe committed fans. I think they’ll get close to a sell out in their first game, as long as they don’t get pumped by Nix the week prior. The only chance it will be a sell out is if it's completely free entry. Kardinia park holds 36k. Outside of a derby no other club can sell out a stadium of that size, especially not WU. I must admit I was thinking Kardinia held 24,000 (look who doesn’t know his AFL ovals from his elbow) so modified answer - just over 20k on a fair weather day The wanderers got 10k to the first ever home game... WU arent getting anywhere near that Sure about that? Wasnt it against Mariners at Parra? I was there. I think it was 11k. Under 12 for sure. 10,458 Mariners were also reigning premiers or grand final winners cant remember which. At the time I remember thinking that is underwhelming. Clubs with first games should be doing all they can to get biggest possible crowd they can. I remember the ffa taking away GCU’s first home game and then changing it to Suncorp so the then FFA owned Roar could pocket the ticket sales. Maybe GCU would’ve had a better base if they hosted that very first game...

Not sure what people were expecting. Popa did the right thing in getting Ono and not Ballack. If we had Ballack, maybe we could have squeezed another 2-3k but that would have been a short term solution.

they won't get as little as 5k like some are suggesting, but it won't come close to selling out either. I would say 12-15k as long as its marketed well. +xIt's also a little troubling that memberships are still unavailable. All I can think is maybe they were waiting for the fixture to be finalised. Its very troubling memberships are not on sale. Its has to be related to stadium availability in the back end of the season.

It will be at Kardinia, but it has not been decided whether it will be on the Fri, Sat or Sun of that weekend. They could easily start selling memberships without that date confirmed yet. I'm sure some fans may wish to wait for confirmation on that date, but I'm sure there are a bunch that don't care and just want to sign up. At least that way there is some (albeit small) cash flow as well as indirect marketing by the fans posting about becoming members.

If they get 20k to their first home game against Glory, it will be a huge success. Im thinking around the 8-12k mark.

To put it in perspective, Melbourne Victory played Perth Glory in March this year in Geelong and got a crowd of 17,856. That's with 25k members who don't have to buy a ticket to go to the game.

I think you are thinking of the game a few years ago against Perth. Victory played Newcastle in March this year in stinking hot heat and got 8k.

With Victory v Wanderers the night before and City v Adelaide the day after there maybe some interested neutrals attending the game from other fanbases not just WUFC and Glory fans. However after that will be the challenge particularly non-derby games.

However after that will be the challenge particularly non-derby games. you've just highlighted a serious flaw with the fixture. having 3 of the 5 HAL games in Victoria on the 1 weekend is insanely bad fixturing. This happens again in R6, R16 and R21. then you have R7 and R17 when all 3 teams are away. Also, no game in VIC in R14 (WU has the bye) and R20 (City have the bye). so we have 4 rounds with 3 games in VIC and 4 rounds with no games in VIC. I know there are issues with stadium availability, but this is ridiculous. With 3 teams, you need to have to have at least 1 game in VIC every round, but not all 3 in the same round. The same should go for Sydney next season.

“The matches are expected to attract more than 5,000 fans. As a result, the games will be held at Mars Stadium, which can cater for more than 11,000 spectators, instead of Ballarat Regional Soccer Facility, which has a capacity of 4,000.” https://www.infosurhoy.com/cocoon/saii/xhtml/en_GB/top-stories/western-united-brings-a-league-soccer-to-mars-stadium

Seems risky. The novelty may wear off quickly if the viewing is crap. Sold out small ground imo would have given better spectacle.

I expect better from you as you are the most insightful and informative on this forum bar none. Anyway, I guess I’ll have to do it then. Here goes, slap in the face for the nuvo new dawners, lowy would have done better, etc etc are you getting sick of it yet?

The Green Wedge has been canned before it even started. It was what the club decided to call the active area as a membership category, but after some backlash to the decision they’ve pulled it overnight.

Looking at the membership prices released today, I reckon they have got it spot on (considering the odd stadium situation). GA to all games for 195, just Geelong games for 135 and just Ballarat games for 60. Works out to 15 per game for all GA options.

I’ve been messaging them them trying to get a job but I wouldn’t get a reply I didn’t even see any jobs advertised online. Surely a new club will need staff? Is it just going to be players wives working in the office?

Have sold about 350 memberships since they went on sale at 3PM today. I don’t know if that’s a good initial rate or not.
I’m thinking if we hit 5,000 we’ve done very well.
