60+ years of rivalry, form and table position NEVER a factor, long may it continue (next year in a more meaningful/national context) https://twitter.com/smfc/status/1635948420098838530?cxt=HHwWhMDSrfSah7QtAAAA

+x+xThought I’d try to keep this thread ticking over Solid win for Marconi in the weekend at home v Blacktown, always a tough match, sitting in 4th. Sydney United on top in nsw as we speak, APIA and Rockdale not too far behind. Sydney Olympic falling behind after a surprising 3 loses in a row for the reigning premiers. Don’t want to be doing that with the first past the post format. South Melbourne looking strong in Victoria as per usual, on top with another win. Heidelberg and bentleigh surprisingly languishing down the bottom early doors, not ideal when you’re trying to i apply for the second div. Good to see Preston on top of the npl 2 having just come up
Preston are gunning to top NPL2, get promoted to NPL1 and then skip that and play NST in 2024... Effectively jumping from 4th division to 1st division in 2 seasons..... We will NEVER hear the end of it from their fans. lol Don't worry, the NST won't have that many Hellenic clubs in it as geographical consideration are likely to take precedence. Will avoid another war or two as well. Smart buggers those in the FA.

BTW, as much as I enjoy you directing your bigoted hatred against another group of Australians for a change, perhaps check with our friends at BT Connor about how they feel being labelled "Hellenic" I know you dont care about who you offend but it IS 2023 and you really should make the effort not be a c*nt ALL the time Paulie.

No idea re Olympic this past week. But they’re defending premiers, and they started the season fairly well. Just had a string of poor results, I still think they’ll likely turn it around at some point, they’ll just hope the seasons not gone by the time they. Cut throat this year with the first past the post. A lot of clubs seem to be struggling for consistency early on. Shit result for Marconi this week ffs, 2-0 home loss to Sutherland sharks ..my patience is wearing thin with tsekenis tbh. I just don’t think he’s the man with the footballing vision to take us forward onto and better things, especially with an eye on the nsd. He’s had a number of years to build a team with plenty of resources at his disposal. It’s not just the results, it’s the style of football we play, Marconi as a club should be aspiring to more, imo.
Shit result for you blokes too this weekend, 2-0 home loss in the Greek derby, which I tuned into. What happened?

Thumping long balls over the top against 6"5' defenders for a tiny Alun Webb to chase is the epitome of madness.... It rarely works when we have our big #9 Riak around but it seems we cant settle on a "game plan" without the usual core....... The same ol, bypass the midfield, play out to fullbacks who then just thump it long to nobody in particular... Definitely NOT what we the fans want.... Interesting comment about "building for NST" Our Estebans heart is in the right place but I wonder what the feeling is in the football department about personal for next year?

is that the Sydney FC youth team?
Pretty impressive if so considering the Vic equivelents wouldn't really compete at that level

yer its 4loss's in a row for SO, amazing considering their line up but looks like the midfield and backline is not doing the work and opponents chances being taken. 4 yellows shows they are 2nd to the ball being frustrated. Week before 4 yellows one turned to red. We see Moreno scored for the Bulls in the AL, he is a miss for APIA but TBH our GF are not that bad over 7rounds might I add our defense is holding with the least to date but dropping points sucked to bottom placed Bulls, signs of LFC haha Yer Glenardo your result suprised me even though not playing well under Tsekinis, maybe need to make the big call flip the greek back to SO haha What happenned MSC, typical derby. Christ Avondale are scoring like hot cakes, 19 in 5games.

Avondale have a young (if you exclude Boland) hungry forward line with plenty of goals in them but havent realy versed any quality team yet... Are shaky in defence so early results not too much to go on. NPL VIC is a mess of results, Oakleigh crufies the Bergers one week then scrapes a draw to a 10 man Dynamo... Bentleigh 0-5 ... its going to be a topsy turvy season :)

They have a good run over the years then it tapers off. CCM/WSW also have their fits and starts but similar. Bottom 3 is CCM/WSW and Bulls. Considering there is also 3 new PL2 clubs promoted this season making it a 16 Club comp, StGFA are more impressive where they are than the 4 AL sides atm considering the difference in resources. SpiritFC also first timers in top flight and above the AL's barring SFC. Yer its interesting seeing over the years the diff of our States that the AL's in NPL are not to standards of up here so to speak. I'm more curious seeing the NST so we can finally see the contests between the State NPL's who do make the cut and see who is boss etcetc

The only shining light of the derby was 18 year old (I think) Tsitsiniaris from the U20s.. Came on in second half and immediately changed the tempo of the game.. Took on a few players, great touches on the wing and a few crosses in... Brilliant cameo for a young player, hope he gets to show more this season.... Well done lad.

nothing like seeing a young kid showing promise against seasoned regulars. It tells you they have the ability to cut it and refine it with time and learn mentally the gamemanship.

+x+x+x+xThought I’d try to keep this thread ticking over Solid win for Marconi in the weekend at home v Blacktown, always a tough match, sitting in 4th.
Well Im sure you would have the inside scoop. Thanks for preventing another ethno-fuelled conflict. There you go again Machine Gunner. You need to take on some Hellenic tutorials and establish for yourself if Macedonia was historically Hellenic or not. No wonder they call youz in Melbourne dopey! Contrary to your racist assertions, I sympathize with the Macedonians who really got the raw end of the stick, shoved up the North somewhere away from the birthplace of Alexander the Great. If you think they are going to be satisfied with a tweak of a name change, well that's your problem. I'm just concerned in having Preston Macedonia in the same league as SM Hellas and the potential repeats of the riots. If your wishful thinking suggests it's all gone and past history, well that's nonsense. It's not forgotten that easy. Just ask Sydney Croatia about the Serbs. Question is, will the FA be prepared to risk it all?

I hope the FA will go ahead as long as any Club in the ring is viable meeting the stds set, its not about backgrounds or the past its about having a Club that proves it can operate/fund playing in a competition ffs. The talk today is about inclusion and all, not exclusion. If trouble occurs I'm sure just like in todays APL/NPL they are dealt with just like it is world over.

here here - some nice finishs. Heres the NSW round up Mt Druitt Town Rangers 0 v Rockdale Ilinden 3 at Popondetta Park – Full Match Report and HighlightsRockdale Ilinden FC continued their strong start to the National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s season with a commanding 3-0 win over Mt Druitt Town Rangers at Popondetta Park on Friday night keeping them atop of the Premiership ladder after eight rounds. It was a disappointing evening for the Rangers. The hosts have been somewhat of a bogey side for Rockdale Ilinden but were blown away by the visitors play, pace and style. It was more of the same from the visitors who settled the contest within the hour.Lochlan Constable opened the scoring with a stunner before who else, but Alec Urosevski found the back of the net alongside a Brendan Cholakian strike in the second half. Sydney FC 1 v Blacktown City 0 at Valentine Sports Park – Full Match Report and HighlightsSydney FC continued its recent run of good form knocking off another National Premier Leagues NSW Men’s powerhouse side in 2022 Champions Blacktown City with a dogged 1-0 victory at Valentine Sports Park on Friday evening. In a fixture which saw two confident defensive sides on show, it was going to take something special to decide this one and that something special came from Sky Blues young gun Alen Harbas with a top class free-kick in the first half.It was to be the winner as the Sky Blues hung on with a great defensive display led by keeper Adam Pavlesic to give the hosts the three precious points. Bulls FC Academy 0 v St George City 0 at Sydney United Sports Centre – Full Match Report and HighlightsThe Bulls FC Academy and St George City shared the points in a fascinating fixture that saw both sides’ defences come out on top at Sydney United Sports Centre on Saturday afternoon as the final result ended at 0-0.The first half saw both sides engage in an arm wrestle for possession and chances, with neither outfit unable to crack the solid defensive lines. The final 45 minutes gave the fans plenty of entertainment with a handful of chances coming in quick succession, leaving the defences into some stellar challenges to keep the scores level. With the game heading towards an inevitable draw, St George goalkeeper Alex Burke was shown a straight red card for a last-man challenge on Sebastian Hernandez, which left the hosts with the chance to steal the game.As the following free kick bounced back off the wall, both sides left with a sense that a win was left on the field. Sutherland Sharks 0 v Sydney United 58 0 at Seymour Shaw Park – Full Match Report and HighlightsThe Sutherland Sharks held Sydney United 58 to a goal-less 0-0 draw on a drizzly Saturday autumn evening at Seymour Shaw as both teams shared the spoils. The first-half was reminiscent of both teams’ season to date, the midfield battle, defence and build up play were all excellent, but the final ball option was sadly lacking.Mitchell Stamatellis came close again late on with a stinging long-range effort from a corner falling to him outside the box but missing narrowly wide of the framework. But with neither keeper worked to any extent in the opening half, it remained deadlocked at the break.Frustration, nerves, and desperation were evident but was there to be a cool-headed moment that would lead to the goal that would, most likely, settle the tie was the question being asked in the stands.Sharks substitute striker Hamish Lamberton worked on an opening but his long-range effort was saved by Danijel Nizic in what was the United 58 keeper’s real first save of the match.A flurry of late changes ensued in an attempt to dictate the outcome of this highly tactical and entertaining encounter came to nought as the score remained 0-0 at the final whistle. Sydney Olympic 2 v NWS Spirit FC 0 at Belmore Sports Ground – Full Match Report and HighlightsSydney Olympic defeated NWS Spirit 2-0 to bring a run of four losses to an end at Belmore Sports Ground on Saturday night. The home side opened the scoring in the 28th minute.Fabio Ferreira, who had been threatening throughout, cut inside onto his left foot from the right wing and curled a dangerous cross into the box.The ball found the head of Darcy Burgess, who made no mistake in converting from close range past the goalkeeper and into the back of the net. Both had chances to find the back of the net, with Olympic somehow not scoring during a goalmouth scramble and Spirit squandering multiple opportunities, but it was the Sydney side that doubled their advantage to secure the three points.A good pass from Burgess released Adam Parkhouse in behind, and the winger took a positive first touch into the box from the left flank. He then found Oliver Puflett with a pinpoint cutback, and the forward made no mistake in converting the ball into the back of the net to ensure victory for Sydney Olympic. Marconi Stallions 3 v Manly United 1 at Marconi Stadium – Full Match Report and HighlightsThe Marconi Stallions returned to winning ways with a 3-1 victory over Manly United at Marconi Stadium on Saturday night. While Manly United netted the first goal through Brazilian striker Bruno Mendes, the Stallions responded with goals to Domenic Costanzo, one of the goals of the season, and Jordan Swibel, with an own goal from Kieren Paull that sealed the victory for the hosts. Western Sydney Wanderers 2 v APIA Leichhardt 2 at Wanderers Football Park – Full Match Report and HighlightsThe Western Sydney Wanderers and APIA Leichhardt played out a thrilling 2-2 draw at the Wanderers Football Park on Saturday.Returning from the Young Socceroos squad, Alessandro Lopane opened the scoring in the 37th minute. APIA Leichhardt forward Diego Celis would follow him on the scoresheet in the 58th minute. From then on it was all APIA until the final five minutes of the game. Applying continual pressure Franco Farinella would score in the 76th minute after many chances went awry for the visiting side.Attempting to come back into the game, the Wanderers had three back-to-back-to-back chances which accumulated with Jarrod Carluccio scoring in the 90th minute.Just when everyone thought the game had come to a conclusion, both clubs would have one more opportunity in injury time. Although it was not to be with the two goalkeepers delivering crucial saves.Jack Warshawsky saved an attempt by Jack Stewart, which was followed by a miraculous save by APIA’s goalkeeper Ivan Necevski that saw the ball hit the crossbar that kept the scores level at full-time. Wollongong Wolves 3 v Central Coast Mariners 0 at WIN Stadium – Full Match Report and HighlightsWollongong Wolves got back to winning ways with a convincing 3-0 victory over the Central Coast Mariners on Sunday afternoon at WIN Stadium.Jake Trew gave the home side a halftime lead, before notching his second just before the hour mark.Takumi Ofuka added a third in the final ten minutes to round out the win.

Wtf is going on at bentleigh? Also, maybe I was wrong, but I thought the bubble was begging to burst re Avondale, f*** em. Also good to see costanzos goal made it across your desk, certainly a promising young player. Also good to see you refer to club Marconi as “the palace” ;) haha
Rockdale out infront at this stage, really can’t afford to fall off the pace with the first past the post format.
West Sydney wanderers away next week for Marconi, strange fixtures these are, as someone noted earlier, depends so heavily when you play them as to what sort of a team you’ll be facing. Sometimes you can have multiple first team players in the squad, sometime it’s just kids.
Npl is ok when you play the bigger clubs, but much looking forward to next season where hopefully the vast majorly of games in the nsd will be somewhat interesting fixtures against serious clubs. No disrespect to smaller clubs teams which comprise the majority of the npl
