People whinge about the crossbenchers and a minority government but it can actually be a good thing. Policies have to actually be debated in the lower house and as what happened in the last term of parliament, controversial policies don't get passed (in the main, metadata retention is a shitful policies that both majors support because it gives them a lot of power in government so they supported it).

If you want a rubber stamp government, move to North Korea or China.

I think your entertaining weekend will be short lived when reality sets in:
- Pauline Hanson may get up to 4 seats and hold the balance of power in the Senate
- Derryn Hinch & Fred Nile to join the crossbench
- Turnbull to be ousted within 6 months paving the way for a more sinister right-wing conservative side of politics to fill the vacuum that has been left by the more moderate Liberal ministers losing their seats
- Australia to potentially lose its AAA credit rating

Couldn't really get any worse...

Hanson getting back in was annoying but inevitable - snack pack was great though.

Liberals will form Government soon but they have seriously undermined themselves.
A win for them is as good as a loss and will surely start the turnbull overthrow clock ticking.

If that isnt code for medicare privatisation then I don't know what is.

As for the education business the current model isn't in need of fixing. If someone wants to study gender descrimination amongst fosh of south west africa they should be entitle to do so. It provides jobs and if there are enough students enrolling for it then there is a demand.

Nevertheless you will still have to pay for it through your taxes.

Can't say I ever remember being upset about a lie from the Liberals, mainly because they're politicians and so it comes with the territory and that goes for both sides. The reaction to a lie is always the best part.

Any party that is extreme (both left / right) Greens, Pauline Hanson etc, will try to sell themselves as being mainstream.
You're right about the Greens though...they really aren't really Progressive. They try to build themselves on Populist agendas, i.e. such as the environment...but deep down they don't really give a shit about the environment but are only after the votes of those WHO actually care about the environment.
Whereas Pauline will vy again for the White Australia vote as well the elder pensioners who yearn for the White Australia Policy days.

They trying to privatise higher ed. Some said that would never happen. I don't see this as a bad thing in part. There are alot of useless degrees and even more useless subjects that are tax-payer subsidised. I probably shouldn't complain. I will need to head back to Uni in the next few years if I want to keep my job.

How is the budget emergency? Perspective. Continued mismanagement of of government expenditure and an aging population will lead to a desperate situation in the years to come.
Did the Libs stop the boats? Really? Yes. I would say this is probably the only promise the Libs kept since last election.
How exactly are the Libs better economic managers, by not passing their budgets? Economics seams to be a subject you know little about. Not spending more you earn is good economic management. When was the last time Labor produced a surplus?

Funny stuff

Firstly credit to Shorten to getting where they are now from where they were. Not only did labor lead the narrative on policies for the past year now but Shorten campaigned like a man possessed, he was everywhere - people forums, town hall meetings, interview after interview, hell even after debates he'd hang around and answer more questions from the public, he really didn't shy away from anything.

Now compare that to Turnbull's campaign, he dodged forums, journalists, interviews and for once I agree with Bolt he went to the election with the ten year company tax cuts and that was pretty much it, while mumbling about what a exciting time to be alive, innovation, stability, waffle waffle waffle without ever going into genuine specifics.

Also lol at Rusty, a few others in this thread & the coalition having a mighty sulk about the medicare scare campaign, seriously? After the many ridiculous scare campaigns that the coalition have run over the past six years, you guys are going to chuck a tanty when one sticks against you guys. It's hardly surprising the public were concerned either after the 2014 budget or Turnbull lying on election eve that doctor prices won't go up if he's elected when GP's have already notified patients that they will rise due to the coalitions freeze.

If anything more should've been made of the constant broken promises, lies, removal of a PM, increasing the debt, Parakeela, constant references of corruption, Sinodinos, Brough, allegations of corruption within the Immigration Department, travel rorts, using royal commissions for political gain, I mean the list goes on, the election really could've gotten a lot dirtier if the ALP dug their heals in but instead they focused more on their policies.

Lastly the highlight of last night for me was watching Alan Jones beat down of McGrath, poor bloke was almost in tears. :lol:

Now to sit back and watch the Libs implode.
