Awesome for Chianese if it happens. That first season for us he and Bruno were amazing together. It was a shame that injuries halted his progress and in the end didnt get a new contract. Hope he gets signed for Swindon.

Chianese is a dumb footballer. He has pace that's about it.

Brillante has been officially revealed and you can watch the shirt presentation + interview

http://video.repubblica.it/edizione/firenze/fiorentina-presentato-brillante-prade-e-un-leader/174825/173455

Nothing really interesting. A couple of quotes about Del Piero and the first few weeks but pretty standard in general.

A few admin personnel at Fiorentina have also talked abut the signing discussing Brillante, how he is doing well and how this signing shows Fiorentina's extensive scouting network.

The sporting director on Brillante:

Quote:
"Fiorentina are looking for young players around the world and is the prototype Brilliant right for us. Joshua has all the characteristics to become part of our Company. has great technical skills as well as being a wonderful guy" .

http://www.ilsitodifirenze.it/content/910-brillante-dar%C3%B2-il-massimo-la-fiorentina

Also the Sporting director on their scouting network and specifically Australia.

Quote:
Brilliant is the symbol of the quest for a society like ours, which is seeking young people around the world. Australia offers interesting solutions.

Moofa that seems to tie to Italy's immigration policy, that seeks to tap into the young Italian Diaspora around the globe, in places like North America, Australia, South America etc... Italy has a stagnant, aging, population and they're active in looking to tap into the diaspora. They have right of return of some such immigration laws for the diaspora, like some other Euro countries do - e.g. if your Grand-parent was Italian etc... It's hardly a co-incidence that most of our star footballers in Italy, were of Italian diaspora, which includes 'Brillante'. Ikonomidis is an interesting one though, his talent rises above that I guess, being of Geek extraction? But yeah, Bresciano, Grella, Valeri etc...

I guess it helps, not only passport wise, culturally etc... but like Croatia etc... they seem to actively seek out talent from the diaspora. All good for our young boys I guess.

It's a whirlwind to see the ascension of Brillante - Kudos to Agent Grella, it's great to see our former stars exploiting their contacts and experience in their new roles, post-playing career. I'm sure many young Aussie players would love Vinnie Grella as their agent!

We all track Brillante now, via the Aussies Abroad, dodgy streams, his NT appearances et... I wonder, in a way, the same old argument - does his blueprint, moving overseas at 21, after 4 seasons and 60 appearances in the A-League and breaking into the NT squad, earning a recent cap there? It seems the ideal time for him really and it seems to be working out that way? If only more could be a similar status, when they leave? It should almost be a pre-requisite I think and again, the likes of some other Aussies Abroad (Rogic?) etc... might watch on from this example? I guess it's more complicated, case-by-case, different rates of development, have to seize your chances when you can... but still, the odds of success are greater with a path and senior context like Brillante's?

Dortmund play a cup match against Stuttgart Kickers (3.Liga) tomorrow night , 11:30 aest. Hopefully Amini gets a run.

Anyone know how long Weidenfeller is out for?

By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

I don't know if Fiorentina's purchase is too much to do with Italy's immigration policy but I agree you see a lot of players going to nations where there family is from even if, like in Brillante's case, there is no way you would say he is Italian if you had a conversation with him. I think it is not only the club but the player also feels it will be easier and that they have some connection to where they are going no matter how faint.

The timing of his departure is very interesting looking at the most successful A-league exports and the amount of games they played. Jedi, Ryan and Kruse are the most successful overseas Aussies at the moment and all had 60+ games in the Australia (many of Jedi's were for Sydney United). Many of they other guys who have been less successful had between 20-40 games (Oar the main exception). An extra 20 games doesn't seem like a ton especially when you see Luongo playing about 50 games last season but it is a decent amount for a player to make in an A-league season.

Sainsbury looks to be out this week but bake training Tuesday which gices him a slight chance of playing in their Europa league qualifier first leg Wednesday I suppose. Lets hope the guy replacing him doesn't play well enough to push him out of the side

John gives himself leading a good selection in the skin sticks, PEC Zwolle has lost this season no contest. The number of injury cases is declining, goalkeeper Kevin Begois state after a hernia back on the field and Trent Sainsbury (ankle) is expected back Tuesday with the group.

There is, according to John's therefore no reason to tinker with the team. Maikel van der Werff, substitute last week, will replace the injured hit Sainsbury. For the rest of the team remains that a week ago defeated FC Utrecht (2-0).

Brad Smith out for awhile. Hopefully they don't cancel the loan but it looks like Swindon will be getting another left back loanee

Quote:
Liverpool: Swindon loanee Brad Smith back at Anfield after injury

Swindon Town loanee Brad Smith has returned to parent club Liverpool for treatment on a knee injury, which could keep him out for several weeks.
The 20-year-old left-back joined the League One club on a season-long loan last week and made his debut in Saturday's victory over Scunthorpe.
But he was forced off with the injury in Tuesday's League Cup win at Luton.
"He probably won't feature for a few weeks," Swindon manager Mark Cooper told BBC Wiltshire.
"We think he's got a grade one medial strain. We're waiting for a scan result from Liverpool but he certainly won't be able to feature for a few games."
The Town boss went on to confirm that may have the chance to bring in cover before Saturday's league fixture at Crawley.
"We've maybe got the option of bringing a natural left-footer in," he added. "I've spoken to the chairman about that so we'll see what happens over the next few hours and next day.

Kruse not in squad for German cup game against a 6th division side. 1:0 Leverkusen after 90 seconds with a team that sees Son and Drmic on the bench . Time to really get that loan or even permanent move sorted Robbie.
