If this was pumped by a commercial mainstream station and had heaps of advertising you would think a 25-35% increase would happen which would make it a huge tournament

Good crowd in Brissy! I guess in a way everyone is just trying to get to Mecca, which is obviously Sydney.

I was there, I'm not sure how it came across on TV but it did kick ass. looked really good on tv. the sparse bowls behind the goals kills it for all but thats whats expected from the shitty view seats. Yep, I think everyone that had a designated seat behind the goals moved towards the centre anway. Last night was one of the funnest football atmospheres I've witnessed - it was so much freaking fun. Maybe SFS or Melbourne Rectangular (Amy Parks @ Melbourne Rectangluar amirite) would have been better for that crowd - but by no means was ANZ a bad option for that crowd last night. The place went off, and although there were heaps of seats you could barely notice it if you just listened to the crowd. False, atmosphere only exists at #notoanz when there is 60k thereBut yes the Iran-Bahrain game at amy parks was amazing. So were their female fans

Wiki tells me the attendance so far has been 225,321.
Hopefully the target in the OP gets smashed, especially with the finals coming up

The crowds are thinner on the broadcast side in every match, opposite of what you normally get at a league match..

The crowds in Canberra have been respectable but not enough to justify a HA-L licence. Quote:The Ireland v UAE game is on a Wednesday and could be comparable to say the Iraq v Jordan game at Suncorp for attendance. It may end up lower than 6K too which would be a good win for football. I dunno. There's a lot of Micks in Australia on working visas and such. The profile of cricket has been rising in Ireland in recent years. I mean it even gets a mention on the Second Captains podcast (well worth listening to). Mind you cricket was mega-huge in Ireland 45 years ago when the Irish team skittled the West Indies touring team all out for 25. Just as with the GPO in 1916 there were 250,000 there that day in 1969. There was a TV camera there and film survives https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKN4vVm7Ffs
Its a game for everyone. Its not pale, male, or stale. It transcends race, gender, economic status. Its for everyone. - Tal Karp

Also can't help but feel 22k @ Allianz would have absolutely kicked ass, 22k @ ANZ is still awful. FFA would probably be thinking they will need a bloody good TV deal. What, and have a semi final and final potentially involving Australia at Allianz? Crazy.
