History is on your side. 6 of the 11 seasons of the HAL to date Brisbane have been no 2 for crowds for the year. Shall be interesting to see the number tonight.

If only they didn't have The Bakries bs every offseason

Brisbane are the second biggest club in the league and I'm not even lying. Bigger than Sydney FC. Bigger than WSW. Their crowds speak for themselves.

But the real question is are they bigger than Cahill FC???

Spotless is obviously a terrible place to watch games and it certainly comes across quieter on TV, but I don't think it's looks too bad on the coverage.

Guys does anybody think the atmosphere of Spotless coming through our tele has anything to do with the new commentary box, would it be any different when it comes to noise cancelling than say Pirteks commentary area?

Could be a factor in why it sounds so quite.

At the ground the RBB sound decent, who else at the ground thinks the RBB sound good?

I think the deal between the two clubs is for members to get free entry to their respective away games. It's a nice idea.

@ sydneyfc I think the deal between the two clubs is for members to get free entry to their respective away games. It's a nice idea.

Both clubs needed to be a bit more innovative in revenue streams - a few thousand free seats for the away side is cheap in order to get a half decent crowd in, not to mention the extra money gained through food and drink sales. Long way to go to make the F3 Derby a thing again, but this is thinking in the right direction.

Average attendances after round 6 excluding Melbourne and Sydney Derby. Not that it makes much difference but also took out Mariners Canberra game. Just goes to show how ridiculous their schedule is. How can they expect to draw a crowd if we are 6 weeks into the season and they've had one home game?  Pretty solid start overall from most clubs. The only disappointments for mine are Wanderers and City. Wellington is about expected.

Melbourne Victory - 20796
Brisbane Roar - 16688

Adelaide - 12454

Just as an FYI, for people question the effect of someone like Cahill is having on the A-league as a whole,  I've taken a look at what crowd attendances were like last year for the first 7 rounds (in away matches) and compared to this season.

Last season to date Melb City had played 5 away games and totaled 86,169 which included an away derby and an away opening game against Sydney FC. That averaged the away attendance at 17,233.

This season, they have only played 4 away games and totaled 87,672 which also included an away derby but no Sydney fc opening away match. The averaged away attendance is at 21,918.

So there has been a 27% uplift in crowds due to Cahill. Obviously this figure may adjust itself down a bit by seasons end, however even if it results in a 20% increase it would be considered a massive success for the league as a whole. Just incase there are people whinging out there that guest marquees are unfair as they only help clubs that have cash.

Hopefully next season there will be an even bigger uptake of these sort of players in the league, as this will lift the attendances as a whole even further, and give the game even greater exposure.

Fair to say that WSW can now just sit themselves right down as it it's clear as daylight which club is bigger in the harbour city.

Melb city crowds are not what was expected, however you can't discount the fact that they have played a number of matches back to back, one of which against Perth which was under almost torrential rain and then against Newcastle on a Thursday night. Their other game against Adelaide got 10k which in its own right isn't that bad when it was also back to back from the week before, but I think it's closer to what I can see them averaging or just under for the remaining home games. Which would still be a 20-25% increase from last season.

City have a Sunday family friendly kickoff this week against Welly but cool and clear weather predicted. Expecting a big crowd.

Imagine a scrapped cap.

I don't think that would change much. Most clubs now aren't really bringing over high profile talent unless the FFA chips in. So I dont think scrapping would do much for attendances. WOuld only increase the divide of top to bottom.

Until most clubs are making use of the third marquee player (or first and second in some cases) then there is little need to scrap the cap.

I however would be open to the idea of a luxury tax, to allow some clubs that have real "vision" to bring bigger players on, but at the cost of paying a tax to the rest of clubs. This would work well for clubs such as Syd FC, Victory etc that may want to bring not well known players but that are in their prime (eg Holosko, Beister etc). Players that will lift the standard but not the profile of the league or raise attendances on away games. This is where a luxury tax would work well for these clubs that want to go beyond the cap. No such tax should be applied if it's for high profile marquees (ie guest marquee) as this helps all clubs in one way or another by just having them playing in the league.

What like 10k?

He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.

Anything over 11k would be up 40% to their average from last season so would be good. If they then manage to grow from there next season then maybe people will lay off a bit. Victory are well ahead but have stagnated the past 5 seasons.
