+x" FFA that they definitely want to go with the model involving associations joining forces to cover a wider area and won't support a bid from a stand-alone team " You can forget West Adel, Brisbane Strikers , South Melbourne if this becomes part of the criteria. Regional Australia will become the winner from expansion. Where is this quote from? Bc its a retarded idea. Totally sounds like something ffa would say though.

Inside info through FFA is that the Tassie bid is stuffed. Gallop/Lowy are interested in a few years, but the financial backers will have left by then.
The other inside info is that South Melb has absolutely no hope, as FFA hates the club.

But i doubt you have any more inside knowledge than the guy who wears shopping bags as shoes in my local park.

Why would they be interested in a few years if the backing is there now?
This expansion phase is heading for an even bigger debacle than the one into Queensland.

Because that's when Wellington expire maybe?
Dunno hopefully the backing will stay if there is communication between the FFA and the bid.😂

Wollongong or south is the best option to replace wellington, you need an established club to quickly transition in if that happends. The backing for Tasmania is supposedly there now, stamoulis and co aren't waiting around 3-5 years.
The ffa should be accepting all these bids (the realistic ones) and then introduce them over the next 2-6 years. Instead they're gonna piss everyone off

This westfield shoppingtown expansion approach is a real goodwill killer.

Ive got an expansion idea. FFA buy an old aircraft carrier, put a pitch on it and some bleachers... Boom. Port Phillip Bay FC. Tour the coastline and dock for fixtures. Cant lose.

+xWhy would they be interested in a few years if the backing is there now? Because given their recent comments, they've indicated a preference for expansion that will benefit the "entire league" i.e. more derbies to lift the value of the overall TV product and not "expansion for expansion sake" that will just increase the number of fixtures rather than a fixture's quality. Once they can sell this product at more of a premium, then there is scope to (or less risk) to introduce quantity increasing franchises ....And let's not forget that FFA are yet to sell the Saturday night derby-prime-time FTA slot yet - Tasmania will do nothing to increase the value of this component.

The other inside info is that South Melb has absolutely no hope, as FFA hates the club. Why does FFA 'hate' the club? Without knowing any details, I'd suspect that South's greatest ally may actually be FoxSports. And if this were true, that would surely put them in ahead of most.

Because nobody knows where we will be 4-6+ years time or how successful this expansion will be or what they can sell the extra derbies for... What if the Sydney or Melbourne derby starts to fade much like the old F3 derbies? So long as the existing members/stakeholders demand more money, FFA will have to find ways of getting more money.

Brisbane Strikers consider joint Ipswich bid ! Full article here. http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/article/2017/01/06/brisbane-strikers-consider-ipswich-joint-bidInteresting comment for me is here "FFA have said that any new bid must not hurt their existing franchises, so we can't be placing ourselves in the middle of Brisbane and we need to look at a strategic area to utilize. " If this doesnt kill off a number of individual bids I dont know what will.

60 years on and the FFA still can't rely on the Roar brand.
Forget Ipswich.
Play 2 games at GC and SC and the rest in Brisbane. Call them South East Queensland Strikers.
I would even take the idea that has been said for Queensland Strikers. Play 2 games GC, 2 SC, 1 Cairns, 1 Townsville and the rest in Brisbane. Just get them in the league and sort it out later. All the other places ain't getting a team anytime soon.
I'm not a fan of mixed regions but the FFA are. How can you have another team in Brisbane, but not in Brisbane?
As far as mixed regions I can only see a team that is called "-Ipswich" or "Western" limiting its own fan base. Where as "Brisbane", SEQ or Qld would not.

with the revelation that the roar want to be associated with hollandia, it sets up the lions/hollandia/roar vs strikers derby quite well.

@ williamn
It's not a "revelation" that Brisbane want to be associated with Lions they already ARE associated with Lions. They funded the start up club, they ran it for a few years, they gave us our name, our colours, the lion on our badge, our history (12 or 60 years take your pick), and even the name for the active support group.
Due to personalities on both sides the separation between the two has been more like a bitter divorce than a family tree. With Lions celebrating 60 years and Roar free of past problematic personalities, Kingsman appears to be building bridges that's all.
But that's as far as it goes, after a few poor years Lions are back on track and with 22,000 members have eyes on promotion to the NPL in two years, and a Div 2 after that, and possibly HAL after that ... whatever the past they are independent of Roar.
And Stikers v Lions. It's a joke of a comparison, it's 5 members v 22,000 members, a few hundred thousand turnover vs. millions in turnover. Strikers have no chance if getting into the HAL, Lions on the other hand?

Makes sense partnering with Ipswich, in a 16 or 18 team A-League there won't be space for all of Roar, Strikers, Pride and the GC.

So the months keep ticking down... Each month that goes by is a month less that could help grow a new club's base..
WSW were an exception and having them have a 3-4 month lead in is not the ideal model...
Lets hope we know the new clubs by March-April this year.. At best
