+x+xdid some stats in another thread before i realised this was here... looking at what percentage of people turn up compared to memberships. this is up to the game last night. numbers pulled from the wiki. ------------attendance---membership--------%-------------#games on FTA victafl......23588........26138...............90.24%........4 wsw........19460........19696...............98.80%........5 sfc..........16087........12319..............130.58%.......7 roar.........14861.........7050............... .210.79% .....8 city.........10866........13023............... 83.43%.........8 perth........10570........8515...............124.13%........3 adelaide...10160.......10088...............100.71..........7 jets...........8583.........8678................98.91%........3 ccm..........7512.........6258...............120.04%........1 nux...........6293.........4791...............131.35%.......lol As i have repeatedly said on here, people will not buy memberships when clubs have such big grounds. You want a ticket for any game in Australia and New Zealand you will get it as easy as that. Maybe sometimes at AAMI and i stress sometimes only. People will pick and choose when they go knowing they will get in. The main reason i and many others buy membership is to support our clubs , but it is also a much cheaper option over the season. $200 for 14 home games and free public transport is fantastic value in anyone's language. I hope this works because charging people $40 to show up is pretty stupid. SFC ticket prices are too high. Im lucky to be able to buy an out of Sydney membership because im more than 50k from SFS, giving me 5 games per year @ $120. But $24 per game is still excessive to me. And expecting fans to buy full season memberships i think is silly. People have familes/lives. Do we think this 'price gauging' is done by clubs because they honestly have few revenue streams?

I was talking about this yesterday with the friends I started going to games with about 10 years ago. We don't know where they expect the next set of members to come from. They seem to want people to just jump straight in and buy one of a full season or 3-5 game memberships. For people like my friends and I it was a progression from kids just out of school going to 2-3 games spread over the course of the season, to 6-7 games the next season , then pretty much the whole season, so we bought memberships the next year and every year since. They no longer cater for people like us in their long term plans. With todays prices we would have gone to maybe 1-2 games the first year before finding something better and more cost effective to do with our money and time.

I had a quick look at ticket prices for SFC v Jets:
$31 gets you one adult/one child
$66 gets a family of 4 in
$25 gets a consession in to the cove, $32 an adult
$15 gets a kid into bronze and $31 for an adult
In comparison Roosters tickets are very similar although the family 4 ticket is only $40 (suspect the NRL subsidise those)
And Event cinema tickets are $22 for an adult and $16 for a child so the football is $9 more expensive for adults (unless you but a family pack then it's cheaper).
So I don't see how anyone can make a case that ticket prices are too high - unless you demand sitting in premium seats where you can hear Arnie whinging all the time.
Presumably 3, 5 and season membership bring these prices Fien even further.
I understand how some people can't afford to go but they're not going to the cinema or Roosters either

Adult buying a singular ticket cost $38.50, a student $31. Event Cinemas near me costs $18.50 for an adult, $15 for a student. I can go watch two movies for the cost of attending a Sydney match and I have much less travel time.

@ chillbilly
Sure. But buy the ticket at the stadium to avoid the disgraceful ticket charges and buy a membership and you'll get close to your cinema ticket cost? The travel time is unfortunate - there's obviously a cinema near you but no football stadium for Sydney to play out of right?
If going to watch SFC for you is dependent on a comparison between going to the cinema or going to Allianz then I'm guessing the cinema will always be cheaper so SFC can't win out.
My point is the tickets, esoecially for families, are not extortionate (ignoring the Ticketek tax which is a disgrace but can be avoided) so if people are price sensitive at that level I'm not sure what more SFC can do?

My point is that from the perspective of uni student me 8-9 years ago that became a passionate follower of Sydney FC who now often pays a lot of money (from my perspective) to follow my team around the country, these prices are extortionate. I think that with these prices Sydney is only hurting its ability to gain new long term supporters.
I live about 20km (half an hour) from the nearest cinema, the SFS is about an hour further away. The suitable stadiums near me are included in the Southern Expansion bid. It is about the same travel time and cost to each Kogarah, Shark Park and Wollongong Stadiums, so that bid is perfect for me.

I still dont think you are seeing it right. The price issue is not a comparison to league, or whatever, so much as it is against the demand for its own product. Adele can comand more money then say Cold chisel And its not just because CC havent had a decent song in 2 decades. Its demand and supply. Fact is there is not so mich demand for SFC tickets. Part of this is becauae of the league itself (and part on the some what robotic, if not efficient manner of play by SFC). And the list goes on (traffic weather [insert SFC fan excuse here] ) There is not the demand to justify the price. Either you reduce supply by playing in a smaller stadium, or create demand by signing a superstar player etc. I dont care what is the reason for the lack of demand or excess of supply. I just know the balancer for the two is price. And we might be at a comporable price to other activities, but i know we are not getting the crowds we want. So adjust rhe price, effect supply or create demand. Just don't whinge that no one is going to your matches (like SFC os doing) unless you are happy with your crowds. If so the shut up SFC abour "poor" crowds.

Wanted increase attendances make tickets $20 for adults and children who play the game should be given free passes to any game they want to go to. They are charged so much to play the game they should be given this privilege.

paid $30 to sit in the corner at aami park.. it's a bit rich. you are not going to get many new visitors at that price. they should let kids and pensioners in for free.

A few years ago I had a very similar discussion to what you have been describing with friends that used to come to quite a few games a year with me. They haven't for a while. As soon as a GA ticket is more than $20-$25 (fees included) it becomes a decision to go to a game and you start to weigh up what else you can do with that money then you start thinking about time and other factors. If you are diehards you may think like Waz but at least half of an average attendance tends not to be the diehards (unless you have won 3 games all year...)

What I'm genuinely surprised at by this weekend's crowds is that Melbourne City got a bigger crowd than both Adelaide and Western Sydney, especially since our crowd was below expected.
City and WSW should really be getting 10k+, though Adelaide's is obviously fair enough.

We are very close to matching last seasons average - they had an FFA inspired fan boycott and this season has Cahill, Yoshi and big Sydney derbies. ffs, what a cock up 🙁

+x+x+xdid some stats in another thread before i realised this was here... looking at what percentage of people turn up compared to memberships. this is up to the game last night. numbers pulled from the wiki. $200 for 14 home games and free public transport is fantastic value in anyone's language. i think that position is more common down south.. a lot of afl supporters a big club supporters and buy memberships. i grew up in qld and most big bronco supporters that i knew would never buy memberships but still go to plenty of games. i think there is a cultural difference in the way we support and the numbers kind of support this while that is true, it doesn't explain the Sydney Swans having 56,000 members in 2016 (although I admit am always sceptical about AFL membership figures).
