+x+x+xOn Friday morning, Southern Districts and Macarthur football associations will unveil a joint venture football club seeking entry into the proposed second division that will be tabled to FFA by more than 80 current National Premier League clubs, as part of the Association of Australian Football Clubs. http://www.smh.com.au/sport/soccer/southwest-sydney-football-bid-puts-pressure-on-ffa-to-build-national-second-tier-20170323-gv51gr.html Im launching South West United Football Club "The Bees". Personally I would just call them Bees Football Club, but in Straya teams need geography in the name otherwise people get confused. I would use yellow on the emblem, but honey or mustard on the kits so its not the same colour as CCM or PG gold. Home kit inspired by Boca and away kit by Wasps Club song
Im really buzzing over this bid Its certainly a region for the future and its good that the two District Associations are clubbing together. The latest figures I have for player registrations is 18k but that is for the 2015 season. There are 2 NPL1 clubs in the region, SU58 and Bonnirigg. 2 NPL2 clubs, Mounties and Macarthur. No NPL3 clubs this season but 2 State League clubs, Camden and SD Raiders. Often the Bankstown area is considered to be part of SW Sydney and there are a number of NPL clubs there. In one sense the District Associations entering a club is going back to how Sydney was before the split in 1957. Before that the majority of the Division 1 clubs were aligned with the District Associations and there wasn't the divide between the elite clubs and the grassroots that came about quite quickly after the split.
the article says With the push for a national second tier below the A-League already boasting the support of the Asian Football Confederation and world football's governing body, FIFA, a new team representing more than 22,000 registered players will add more fuel to the debate surrounding promotion and relegation in the future for Australian football. Player numbers have been growing by about 5% annually combined in the Districts and there are a lot of players that are counted in the State League figures so I reckon the 22k figure accounts for the 3 figures combined.

+xSFC and WSW will still be bigger than potential Southern and SW. They will stilll be able to poach the best talent. But have 4 professional acadamies in Sydney would be a good thing not bad. (without the p/r arguement). The population in SW Sydney depends on which State Government is in power. They move Fairfield and Bankstown in and out on a regular basis. If you add the lot together i.e.. Macarthur, Liverpool, Fairfield and Bankstown, the population is already 900k and its growing at about 25k pa. If you include Bankstown numbers of 8k there is a total of 30k registered players and that is growing by around 1k pa.

It says they can upgrade to between 15k and 20k all seater. Its a bit unclear how many seats they are planning now. Regardless I think 10k would be great and enough for an extended period. Play WSW at the new Parramatta, allocate tickets to the SW members and ticket holders and member clubs before releasing to general public, so they can buy tickets for their friends and family who support SW and its not flooded with WSW straight away. I am used to playing derbies away so I dont think it is so much of a big deal. These days we play derbies at home and it sickens me to see the scumbags inside our stadium. But thats my personal view. SFC and Southern would be ok at the 10k stadium. Pretty sure the new Parramatta will have a LED system, i think, so you can light up the stadium in SW colours for the derby. The stadium is for the people of NSW not exclusively WSW and Eels

Its a compromise requested by the Heritage people and its been accepted by Stadiums NSW or whatever they are called.

In fact, it's written into FFA's recent six-year contract that Fox Sports won't add any money for expansion until year five of the contract and then only if the new team is from Sydney or Melbourne. So, the fanatics who want an A-League team in Tasmania or Geelong won't be funded by additional Fox Sport money. Furthermore, the additional pay TV money won't go close to covering the costs of the new team. The Fox Sports/FFA contract offers $2.5 million for an additional Sydney or Melbourne club in years five and six. http://www.smh.com.au/sport/soccer/why-expansion-could-damage-the-aleague-20170327-gv7tos.htmlRoy Masters talking shit ?

My understanding is the Fox Sports/FFA contract offers $5,6 million for two additional teams from year 2 to 4. If there is no expansion in 2018/19 that means $5.6m is knocked off the headline figure for that year.
The Fox Sports/FFA contract offers $7.5 million a year if certain metrics are met by the end of year 4 for years 5 an 6. Further expansion may also be considered at that time if the metrics are being met.

that's roughly what I'd heard but Masters is claiming FACT. Which also suggests he's seen it, and that suggests someone at FFA showed him Still trying to put the Genie back in the bottle before March 31 ?

Further expansion may also be considered at that time if the metrics are being met. That's my understanding as well. I reckon Roy has got it wrong. I worked it once here, to the nearest decimal point, from the bits and pieces which have been made public: Break down of six year TV deal ($346M) | Cash component ($M) | Non-cash | Total | | Base Cash | 2 new teams | Incentives | Contra | Cash & non | Year 1 | 44.5 | | | 6 | 50.5 | Year 2 | 44.5 | 5.6 | | 6 | 56.1 | Year 3 | 44.5 | 5.6 | | 6 | 56.1 | Year 4 | 44.5 | 5.6 | | 6 | 56.1 | Year 5 | 44.5 | 5.6 | 7.5 | 6 | 63.6 | Year 6 | 44.5 | 5.6 | 7.5 | 6 | 63.6 | Total | 267 | 28 | 15 | 36 | 346 | - I reckon Roy has just got some of the timing and amounts mixed up. The Year two calculation tallies with what we know the FFA are wanting to do re expansion.

I’m all for a second division but it is just not going to happen with a group of current NPL clubs banding together to create a league2. If the FFA are going to approve this (which for the good of the game they have to be on board) they will want teams/ franchises in certain strategic locations to capture the major population centers and to future proof against the inevitable promotion and relegation. For example and initial 8 team A league 2 could look something like this Sydney South | Franchise | Sydney South West | Franchise | Sydney 5 | Open to NPL bids | Wollongong | Open to NPL bids | Canberra | Franchise | Melbourne SW | Franchise | Melbourne 4 | Open to NPL bids | Geelong | Franchise | The successful teams would be “hand picked” for A league expansion a few years of competition based on a number of criteria. And replace by one of the following Adelaide 2 | Perth 2 | Brisbane 2 | Geelong | Tasmania | Auckland | Eventually this would lead to 22 professional teams over two divisions with full P and R between the two. Also I would imagine some of the rich Sydney Rugby League clubs who are looking for upgrades to their stadium would be interested in any possible Sydney bid as co tenant to increase potential for grants. ie Penrith, Manly

There seems to be a foreign club in your list from Auckland.
Maybe we should also include The Kabul Wanderers!

If anyone is interested, this is a really good read analysing the 12 expansion bids for the next phase of expansion in the MLS in America. There is quite a bit of the same issues, metrics and challenges for both the bidding parties and the federation when it comes to who to ultimately select for expansion. http://www.starsandstripesfc.com/mls-usmnt/2017/3/31/14518652/mls-expansion-bids-2017

ARU puts Western Force, Melbourne Rebels on Super Rugby chopping blockUpdated The futures of Australian Super Rugby clubs Melbourne Rebels and Western Force are on life support, after the ARU today confirmed one of the franchises would be cut at the end of this season. Key points:- The number of Australian teams playing in Super Rugby will be reduced by one next season
- The team to be cut will be announced in the next 48-72 hours.
- The team to be cut from Australia will come from Perth or Melbourne
ARU CEO Bill Pulver and chairman Cameron Clyne made the announcement at a press conference in Sydney today, saying a final decision would be made "within 72 hours". Mr Clyne said the ARU had completed an "exhaustive analysis" on the Melbourne Rebels, ACT Brumbies and Western Force. "After reviewing management's findings, the board made the decision to eliminate the Brumbies from the process and identified that consultation is required with both the Western Force and Melbourne Rebels to further understand their financial position," Mr Clyne said. "We don't expect this final consultation period to be a very drawn out process and expect to be able to deliver an outcome in the very near future."
Yesterday, South Africa, New Zealand, Australia and Argentina Rugby (SANZAAR) — the body which operates the Super Rugby competition — announced the league would be reduced by three teams next season. The new format means the number of teams in Australia will be reduced from five to four, and South Africa cut from six to four. Current format is 'unsustainable'Mr Clyne said his organisation had made the decision to cut a team because the current format was "unsustainable". "Almost immediately upon expansion to five teams, it became apparent that Australia could not sustain that number of teams," he said. "The financial drain, coupled with the fact that each team is an independent entity, and make decisions accordingly, placed a significant strain on funding." He said the game was under extreme financial strain Down Under and said Australia did not have the playing depth to service five Super Rugby teams. Shortly after his side's 46-41 victory over South African's Southern Kings, Western Force captain Matt Hodgson was moved to tears when asked about his club's future. "Being a parent myself, you don't know where to put your kid now. Do I put him in rugby or do I put him to stay in Western Australia playing AFL, so it's frustrating," Hodgson said. "I think the way it's been done is probably the most annoying thing, it's dragged on. "I've done four press conferences this week and I've had one rugby question."

No professional sport in Canberra if they cut the Brumbies. Would be time for FFA to take a chance on Canberra.
What sort of crowds/membership do the Rebels and Force get?

I wouldn't be upset if the Melbourne Rebels were chopped. the Melbourne sporting market is diluted enough as it is. plus they wreck our pitch.

Our pitch is never as bad as what Sydney/Brisbane dish up, even though we have the Storm and the Rebels smashing it up.

The main lesson you need to take from Rugby is not to destroy club and grassroots football in the pursuit of money. There is already some worrying signs regarding player development with the neglect of all but a hand full of clubs.......for Rugby it is almost terminal.
