@robbie

A bad kit imo would be Bradford with Navy shorts

Hopefully white is dominant on the home kit. It seems strange to mimic Lions Broncos and yellow maroon of other teams.

You see eg the odd blue white for Bulldogs around and pretty much never Nrth Melb. I don't think people would relate it to Brothers either. Even Cowboys use Almost similar and Titans almost similar also.

I would go with "new" colours, so if you see someone coming you know which team it is. Black and white is out as it is a Southern Brisbane thing.

or they could go the Valencia route with the white top and have maroon shorts and white socks

and have the away have the maroon shirt with gold stripes and blue sleeve, blue shorts and blue socks

Only thing this bid is lacking is a known football playing identity to associate with the brand. Missed opportunity not to go with Josip Skoko who is from the area

THE long-awaited redevelopment of Ballymore Stadium is back on the table thanks to a proposal for a second Brisbane A-League team.

The consortium behind FC Brisbane City has allocated funding for a “progressive refurbishment” of the Queensland Rugby Union-owned facility in Herston, where they would play all of their home games if successful.

The intimate 18,000-seat venue is in desperate need of renovation but has the potential to become an ideal boutique venue for the A-League. It would also benefit the Queensland Reds, who have struggled financially in recent years and are seeking to bring additional content to Ballymore, like rugby’s mooted State of Origin adaptation and possibly Super Rugby games in the future.

The stadium, however, is just the first step.

The long-term plan is for FC Brisbane City to back the QRU’s vision to seek government support for a full-scale redevelopment.

That means revisiting an old blueprint to build a centre of excellence that includes a medical centre, athletes’ village, additional training fields, Olympic pool and gymnasium, with parklands and picnic areas accessible to the public.

It nearly happened in 2010 but the incoming Rudd Government pulled $25 million in funding that had been committed to the $100 million project. “The stadium is the centrepiece. It’s a multisports complex and we see the synergies between football and rugby working quite well together,” QRU chief executive Richard Barker told AAP.

“The vision for us is to deliver a world-class community, recreation and high- performance sporting precinct.

“With the possibility of another A-League team coming in, it’s a great catalyst for us to restart that journey.

“Ballymore has a heartbeat and a soul, because it was built by people who were passionate about what sport stood for back then.

“We want Ballymore to be a destination again.” Final negotiations between FC Brisbane City and the QRU, who have development approval for Ballymore, are ongoing but in principle agreements have been made. City have history at Ballymore — in 1981, they played a National Soccer League match against Newcastle KB United as a curtain raiser to a rugby union clash between Queensland and Italy.

Their clubhouse is at Spencer Park, which is only 500m away. Ballymore is already home to the Reds and two National Rugby Championship sides, with Brisbane Roar to vacate when their new training and administration base at Logan is completed towards the end of the year.

FC Brisbane City’s bid chief Robert Cavallucci said their aim was to create a fundamentally different match day experience to the Roar, who had the fourth- highest average crowds in the A-League this season but sometimes struggle for atmosphere at the 52,500-seat Suncorp Stadium.

“We knew very early on we could only deliver that through being at Ballymore,” Cavallucci said.

@ WilliamnCity have been around 40 years longer than strikers who they describe as "plastic" lol. Strikers bid is based on the fact they were booted out of the old NSL and couldn't afford the A league entry fee (only one group could - the Lions) so I don't think city will struggle more than strikers - in fact, watch out for an Italian marquee, they won't stray too far from their heritage lol

You sound afraid of the strikers.

Part of me just can't help but worry about helping get a stadium upgraded that is owned by another code. Unless they were guaranteed a long-term lease/guaranteed union wouldn't play on it the day before, football could be screwed over and the cause of union advanced.

lol cluvesundies 😂.

Sadly Strikers "bid" looks pathetic alongside the one presented by City. There's still time assuming the ffa will eventually open up the competition but it will take a lot to overhaul City now.

Can't understand why Strikers didn't plan to redevelop Perry Park as part of their bid?

hopefully this sort of competition will get the brisbane strikers bid team to get their shit together. Even for the victoria patriots bid, it has been all talk, yet to see any engagement with the victorian community or what this team would look like.

I've been living under a rock in the last 48 hrs dealing with the process of changing jobs but this seems to have come out of the blue.

Had a good read of the whole thread and it's all pretty promising stuff.
Ballymore is the perfect option for the second Brisbane side if you cannot redevelop Perry Park like some posters have said.

As a 18000 capacity, crowds between 7-10k would still look fine but if they happen to get 12k or so to games it will create a good atmosphere and look good on TV.

The best thing the club has said is they will play all games at ballymore.
This creates the membership culture that the Wanderers had a parramatta with the high demand tickets to derbies.
Basically if you want a seat at the derby, you have to get a membership which puts the club in a great position.

You would hope that that is the case with derby tickets. My club allows members/season ticket holders to buy extra tickets before they are released to the public.

Lol Skoko has lived in Geelong (and continues to do so post playing career) since he was 9 years old - he's Geelong through and through.

Skoko was indeed born in Mt Gambier, but he grew up from primary school age in Geelong. His footballing origins are certainly from there, and unless I'm corrected I believe he lives there now too.

awwwww, clivesundies .... don't get all salty. The good news is Strikers can be a well balanced club now - they'll have a chip on both shoulders hating Roar AND City for taking "their" place in the national comp. It will be even sadder when Lions take "their" place in the National second division and they're left playing third tier football - strikers are a club stuck in a bitter past and being left behind by a future they can't connect with as more ambitious clubs overtake them. It's not anyone's fault but the strikers that their bid fits on a piece of A4 ...

@ clivesundies

I'm not sure where this "fear" comment comes from?

Football in SEQ is massive; 35,000 players in Brisbane and 15,000 each on the GC, Sunshine and out West. Roar are shedding young talent regularly because they don't have the capacity at youth level, my own junior club has over 1,600 young players with only one professional team (and no second division) the pathways in QLD are limited. The only fear is that a second team don't get up, and once it's up we need a third team team on either if the coasts of our west. We have the talent we just don't have the teams.

City just presented a cracking bid document, Ipswich is more of a concept and really linked to a second NRL team. Strikers bid is paper thin - no clarity on brand (FC Brisbane City v BCFC), they plan on playing out of Suncorp (which has neither the capacity to host a 4th team with concerts as well as being financially crippling), and the financial backers behind the Strikers are unknown whereas the Sunshine Coast have an Indian billionaire, Ipswich have the council with promises of land for a stadium, and City have a string of local businessmen).

Strikers have time to get their bid in order but right now it's a laughing stock in the football community and is to all intents and purposes, dead in the water. Shame.

think of a lot of reasons. Mostly brisbane is not really a divided city. The general QLDer mentality of us verus the world.
Hell the broncos v cowboy games in the NRL, is not really a devisive game as at the end of the day QLD wins.
THe only place that people hate is the GC, but no one supports teams on the GC. If people on the coast actually support a team, a good rivalry will form.
