No disrespect to Milligan but if clubs a signing players like him on marquee contracts it's really poor. That goes for all Aleague clubs. No way near a marquee he was really poor last season for his club in the UAE.Same goes for Trolisi bewildering he is a marquee.
On the other hand Mariners sign a player Brama, played all his career in top flight Dutch league and won a championship there etc played europa league his club ginished 4th last season to a normal contract. That is good business.

+x+x+xIt's like being in 2015 without the most important player in that team Delpierre, we ain't winning nothing without a top class centre half. Williams? Williams, come on mate, a defensive midfielder, playing as a centre half, because he is too injured to play def mid, is not the quality centre half, i want controlling our defence. Baro was a very decent replacement for Delpierre, not in the same class, but was solid to the point, he was the best centre half, we have had bar Delpierre in our.history. Williams, Donachie and Deng is not the central defence to win you a championship. Look, I tend to agree with you, and was more asking the question of Williams, hence the (?) as I have never really seen a lot of him and certainly didn't watch much of him last year (only really watch MV games). Also think it was ludicrous to let Baro go and think MDP was not only the best defender we've had but one the best players in the history of the HAL full stop. As for whether of not Williams, Donachie and Deng, we'll have to see. Donks is only 24 so should still be improving a bit and Deng has hopefully grown too. At worst we should be fairly solid, with an improved midfield of Milligan adding to Valeri and Troisi hopefully taking some pressure off. We also still have a few visas left and should still have some cap room so am confident we can get some real quality from there.

I agree players like Milligan are not what one thinks a marquee should be. The league had probably had 2 'marquee' type players as one would imagine the word should mean.
That's the reality of a salary capped league when you have a world football system where unproven shit - oops, I just ate my own poop...s get 10 milllion euro fees

Anyway, great to have him back. Age maybe slight concern but he is head and shoulders above any DM in the country.

+xWonder if him and Carl will share the armband next season. Doubt it - Milligan doesn't seem like the sort of bloke to demand shit like that tbh. Status quo will remain (Valeri C, Broxham VC) whilst Milligan will just be another excellent addition to the leadership group. The real question you should be asking is if he should take the penalties off Bes or not.

This is outstanding news with the ACL too - our midfield engine is going to be so fucking fresh with a combination of Valeri, Milligan, Broxham and Williams rotating through it.

Squad is definitely being built around the ACL, I wouldn't be surprised to see us not use our full allowance of foreigners. Thomas Geria-Donachie-Williams-Choi? (A) Valeri-Milligan Kosta (F) - Troisi - LW (F) Bes (F)

I feel like if he was good enough, we would have signed him already, and as a foreign player 'good enough' doesn't really cut it.

Victory have a very good core of experienced internationals within their ranks which should stand the club in good stead. Blokes such as Milligan, Troisi, Berisha, Williams, even Barbarouses, have all had international experience in recent times and will compliment nicely the superb leadership of Valeri (50 caps himself) and Broxham.

Could just be haggling over the contract tbh - Trimmers needs to ensure that he fits under the cap without blowing it. I also wonder if Milligan will 'swap roles' with Troisi next season? Club reports he is only on a one year deal, but at 33, can't see him going anywhere else tbh and with Troisi nailed on for marquee next season I hope we just see a simple swap with Milligan coming under the cap for the remainder of his career from next season.

Bes is also 32 and in the last year of his marquee contract. With a bit of luck, and an increase in cap, we might be able to keep them both on non-marquee wages. Either that or we'll have a tough decision to make.

I think If we qualify for the WC, and manage to win some games before hand our ranking should get into the 50's, paving the way for him to end his career in England.
Bes' contract is also up at the end of the season, so there will be 1 marquee spot up for grabs,

3ATB would certainly suit the players we have, with all of our defenders being ball players. Kosta has played that role well with Wellington and the NZ national team and was damaging. With Milligan in the team we'd be less reliant on Troisi distributing early to the wings and could knock it around a bit more.
Don't think Muscy will change from his belief in the 4231/433 though.
